- These swans dominating this water for years.
For some reason the geese decided to build a nest in the same area.
The moment their children were big enough to leave they left,
and i never saw them back again.
Filmed from my garden and next to the house.

Anytime I see swan taking off, I find myself wondering how much energy and muscular efforts does it take to flap those gigantic wings so as to lift the swan's 12 kgs body off the ground and get airborne. I believe it must take sheer energy and enormous muscle strengths to do that vigorous flapping and manage to lift a 12 kgs body off the ground. That's a magic of nature. It's unbelievably strong and stunningly beautiful at the same time.

MrStraightlover Swans assist themselves by 'running' on the water. That's what that audible slapping sound is; it's the swan using it's webbed feet to run on the waters surface.
You see the wingspan of the geese and you are going wow. Then the swans fly, and their wingspan is simply astonishing. Those birds are truly gigantic. No wonder they're both so loved and feared.

swan do it to protect thier terriorty and thier babys as if the canada geese are still thier when the babys come along then they will pose a serious threat to the babys of the swan meaning the male cob the big man in the realtionship has the duty of chasing them off to the point that they will either leave or they will attack thier babys when they have them to elimante more competiters from thier territory they also dont want them to all come back next year with the babys as by then they will be big and strong so will cause more problems for the swans THEY DONT DO IT JUST FOR FUN!!!

I love how at the 2-min mark, the Canada Goose decides she's taken enough sass from that swan, and gives it a taste of it's own medicine.
I've run into some serious douchebag geese in my time who like to hiss at you and shit at your feet, but from most of the vids I am seeing here swans are much bigger asshole birds, and much bigger birds period, so I am glad they don't come around my neck of the woods. Just lots of ducks and geese.

Swans seem to particularly dislike geese, I notice that they will go after them but ignore ducks, coots and moorhens (in fact I've seen a coot go for a swan!).

The swan is saying, "this is MY pond, you Canadian hoser!" Swans are gorgeous creatures, but territorial as hell. The only advantage geese have over them is that geese are pretty competent on land, while swans do not really like to walk as much and are more comfortable in the water. Notice the swan gives up the chase when the goose goes onto the land.

Swans, like Canada Geese and Mallard Ducks can have their tails sticking straight up in the air when they have their heads toward the bottom of the lake to feed on seaweeds and other vegetation that are underwater.

Swans are the most aggressive water fowl. Their attitude is that the entire lake and/or pond belongs to them. Period. They will even venture onto the surrounding grounds and chase down humans, who just happen to be walking by, including children.
