    So great to see!! Thanks much for the clean, watchable edits of whitewater attainable by mortals. I'll definitely be using these to get my friends stoked on paddling. Cheers from the Pacific Northwest!

    ole Mike really used to do the shit talk like when he mentions bitch slapping.. He was still freinds with Mark after that episode at the Brices house.

      It will be a bit hard at the beginning, but push through that. Go paddling with some friends and never give up.

    Man this compilation is awesome! Hope I can become confident enough to kayak these sorts of Rapids one day :)

      Thank you! Think of this video as proof that you can become confident enough to run these rapids. If I can do then so can you!

    Love this guys video, just raw footage showing real progression, not afraid to show his capsizes like everybody else posting river runs makes it so much more interesting. Watching your first video (first 4 months kayaking) through to this is great. Good job!

    Dude, I live like 20 minutes from Harper's Ferry! I recognised it immediately in the beginning haha, I was on that rock once as well! I live like 10 minutes away from the closest part of the Potomac River. You should kayak the Great Falls lol

      +Thomas Weakley Curious, how often did you get out in the early stages of your kayaking and did you utilize instruction, or just learn from friends and experience?

    • @ThomasWeakley
      @ThomasWeakley  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Ken Gregory Hey Ken, thanks for commenting! I have always gotten out on average two times per week. I paid for a few sessions of instruction with Liquid Adventure Kayak School and River and Trail outfitters to learn my roll. It took me a long time to get my first roll. I've taken a few sessions of instruction since then but I have learned all my river-running from friends on the river. I always welcome and appreciate advice from trip leaders and more experienced paddlers. Any time an expert paddler says "follow me" or "come do this move" I always take advantage.

    Hi Thomas,
    You make such awesome videos! My first video I made was inspired by you're style.
    I have a question, can you check my video and give some feedback? I really want to know wat you think about it.
    Keep going!
    (I'm a starter, don't expect to much about it. My english isn't very good either, sorry for that.)

      @ThomasWeakley  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, sorry for the late reply. I am so glad to hear that my videos have inspired you! That really gives me the motivation to keep putting together edits. I just checked out your video and I'd be happy to give you some feedback. Are you looking for feedback on the video edit itself or your paddling ability?

      +Thomas Weakley Hey! Awesome you checked it out! I would love to hear about the edit, I'm not a very good kayaker, but i'm young so I hope it will get better, tips are always welcome tho

      +Thomas Weakley Awesome! You responded! Unfortunatly I won't meet you on the water, I live in Europe (The Netherlands) Where whitewater isn't there very much. I have to go to Germany, Belgium or an other country. For the most close river (class 3) I have to drive about 3 hours, but it's something. I hope I can travel in the future so I can boat higher classes and have more fun!
      kind regards,
      A boy from the Netherlands who is one of you're biggest fans.
      (sorry for the bad english)

    Great videos! I have been wanting to WW kayak for years, but haven't had the time to learn. I finally am going to an 8 hour class this week and can't be more excited. Are you using a J-hook mount on your helmet and do you have a tether for GOpro incase that fails?

      Thanks!! That's one of the best compliments I've gotten on a video. We all love watching the pros but I've had so many people tell me it's refreshing to see an average joe pushing their abilities and showing the bad lines with the good.

      I think that song was composed by Jens Kiilstofte. I can't recall the exact name but it is probably still available on this website:

      If I can find the exact name of it I'll get back to you with another link.

      I'm not trying to be a jerk, but I see a lot of people trying to paddle above their level. Screw ups on class 5 happen to even the best, and they can be deadly.

    • @ThomasWeakley
      @ThomasWeakley  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I hear you on that. I'm still having lots of fun working on class III and IV moves so I don't see a reason to rush into running class V right now but if the right opportunity presented itself ya never know. Cheers!

    • @ThomasWeakley
      @ThomasWeakley  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Andrew Doolan Thanks! I guess I take it for granted sometimes having so much whitewater within a 2 hour drive. Where are you located?

    • @doolan12
      @doolan12 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm in Kamloops BC so there's a fair amount of whitewater around but I'm recovering from shoulder surgery (as a result of kayaking and popping the shoulder out so much)

    Looks like some nice rivers over there with some nice paddling. :) I'm just wondering how did you get the almost long exposure type video in the first clip?

    • @ThomasWeakley
      @ThomasWeakley  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for commenting! I shot that one as a time-lapse video with my DSLR. I used a neutral density filter to slow the exposure down so I could get that blur on the water.

    • @ThomasWeakley
      @ThomasWeakley  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      In case you're not familiar with time-lapse, tha clip is made up of 300 slow-exposure photographs set on a timeline at 30 frames per second.

    • @samelliott1737
      @samelliott1737 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I never really thought about using long exposures to make a timelapse before, cheers man I'll give it a try. :)
