This was the wrong video to watch the day after renting my NU1X. But I'm still loving it. Haven't encountered the loud note problem despite playing for hours at the shop
But what if you can pick up an NU1X for around 1500-2000 £/$ less than the NU1XA? Lots of second hand/showroom deals around for the former, very tempting.
Love this review! Could you please expand a bit on how realistic the feel of the keys is compared to an acoustic upright, and the mechanism behind creating that feel? Is there a great difference between the feel of an upright vs a grand? Thank you! 😊
The keys and key actions in the NU1XA are real acoustic keys and key actions - they are similar to the keys and key actions in the Yamaha U1J. The repetition speed of each key has been increased slightly, but otherwise the key feel is almost identical to that of a Yamaha U1J. The difference is that the cast iron harp and steel / copper strings have been removed and replaced with magnetic sensors on the hammers and keys, as well as those speakers and horns as mentioned in the video. Another difference is the damper weight has been removed - whereas on an acoustic piano the damper weight on each key is only removed if you press the sustain pedal.
Note that the NU1X does not have those magnetic sensors - it instead uses optical sensors which can be interfered with by dust and/or light causing issues like random loud notes - that’s why Yamaha no longer uses that optical sensor.
I really like the feel of the nu1xa and will get it as an upgrade to my p-45 when i move to a new flat :D

Touch screens evrywhere 😩👨🦯
Though, I’m a big Yamaha fan 😊
There is only one little touchscreen in the corner, and you can turn it off.
