You don’t know pain until you can not escape it. Ever. It is exhausting. Overwhelming. It over takes your emotions, your hopes, dreams….. it takes up all your energy. It drowns out all the joy you try to feel. You can’t understand it until you’ve experienced it. I have tremendous empathy for Will’s character, as he had it so much worse than I do. But I have not been pain free since Jan 30th, 2013. The pain varies in intensity, but is constantly present. I rely on medications to simply function. Every minute. Every day. Pain is the first thing I am aware of when I wake up. The last thing I think about as I drift to sleep. It rules my life, my schedule, my activity level, my relationships. You feel trapped in your own skin with the pain until you feel like you’re losing your mind. I can understand why someone would choose to end the suffering. Especially when you add his paralysis , frequent hospitalizations, inability to moderate his body temperature, dependence on others, etc. Feeling like a burden to those you love is so hard. I can respect you’d have a different decision for YOU, but judging someone for who makes a different decision seems wrong, After all, you’re not the one experiencing constant pain, are you?

it is easy for people who is not in the situation to think that is not an option but i think that is selfish not to think what the person really needs and when cant take it anymore. love the idea of this movie because we can relate to the "me before you " in easier stuff in life. putting ourself first, mentally and in any way possible.
It was so frustrating that he wouldn't listen to Anita. She was completely right, Will had every right to make that choice for himself. Breathing and being able to kiss someone didn't change the fact that he was in constant pain every single day. He was also a very independent person with absolutely no independence and that was tearing him apart.
Watching someone you love die would be awful, but trying to make them to stay alive when they don't want to and are in that constant state of pain would be selfish
Amin. You clearly have no experience with this. There are more terrible things than death. He was in chronic pain, he was feeling shut inside a dead body. He couldn't touch her hair, he couldn't stroke her face. He wouldn't have been able to make love to her. If something itched him, he couldn't cratch. A man, who was a maker, who was his whole life in the position to do, act and behave as well as enjoy how he wanted was minimalized to being in need of constant help for everything. He was rotting in that body. He loved her with his whole being, but he saw what would come. Agony. Pain. Torture. Nearly noone who could have it different would let this happen. As a nurse: There is torture not worth living. Please believe me. I have seen the worse things happening to humans and death doesn't scare me. Please believe me. I would anyday make the same decision as him. And no: life is not pain. We have no clue, what real torture is, we have the blissflul advantage to be in a position we couldn't even imagine how Will Traynor felt and we should be thankful for this.

In the end Will chooses death because he loves Clark. A life of literally caring for him is not what he wishes for her. He dies happy knowing that she loves him and that he can provide the means for her to live a full life. Her father was right: she did not fail.

When you early on said that she'd already changed his mind, I knew you wouldn't get it at all. I've commented on several reactions to this movie, where they say that he's selfish, and that he shouldn't want to die. These people obviously haven't experienced real pain. It's more selfish of the loved ones pressuring someone who suffers so intensly, to carry on "living".
"It IS you bro." No it's not. He lived an incredibly active and independent life, and now he can't do anything by himself.
"Talk to him." It doesn't matter what she says. Even her love can't save him. He's in PAIN, constantly.
I'm sorry, but it honestly irritates me. I live with chronic pain every day, and suffer from depression. I've struggled to survive for years. It isn't weak to commit suicide or get assisted suicide, it just means that you've been strong for long enough. It's sad, of course. And losing someone you love because they want to die is awful. But it's their life and their decision.
Loved your reaction as always. You should watch society of the snow. It's a great movie and I would love to hear what you have to say about that one. If you do watch it I recommend the original language with subtitles, the acting was amazing

I don't even know what to say. It feels so ignorant of others feelings. Even if that's how you think you would feel if you got paralyzed, all people are different. I 'only' suffer from fibromyalgia and depression, but that's enough pain to struggle with every day. Will said that he wakes up every morning already wishing it was over. He had been feeling that way for a while, and there's not much to do in his situation. He can't get better. If someone you loved was in his position, would you force them to live just because you want them to live? That's incredibly selfish.
I hope you get better perspective some day, so you can see things from other peoples perspective.
