    Many good ideas, especially like your spare fuel and water containers!
    Two recos: Use a sheepskin as seat cover. Just be sure to secure it. It is the single best investment you can make for distance travel. (Two hours till sore butt without it: 10 hours with it!)
    And, when camping, can use as a 'seat' around campfire, and as additional blanket at nite, and as a shawl if chilly in camp...
    Finally, reco, ditch the anemic elastic netting and use 10 speed bicycle innertubes to secure all items.
    They are EASY to use, cheap- most bike shops will give you used ones, do not vibrate loose on long hauls, and are amazingly versatile. I have used them for 10s of thousands of miles touring with full camping gear. Try it, you'll like it.
    Look forward to future videos!

    Check out the Saddleman Tactical Tunnel /Tail bag. Fits on the back of the Saddleman Track seat. Or your rear rack. And is huge. Will hold a full face helmet in main compartment with room to spare plus the pouches. And serves as a back rest.

    Just a note on weighing your gear, you should probably do that because your motorcycle has a maximum gross vehicle weight rating. Exceeding that weight rating is asking for troubleIs of the blown tire at the worst possible moment variety. Weigh yourself and everything else that is going on that bike. Then check it against the owner's manual. Pro tip: If the dry weight rating probably does not include other installed accessories Like crash bars So factor that into your calculations.. If I remember off the top of your head with a KVR 650 you've got about 500 pounds to play with So you should be OK Unless you've got a real bad cheeseburger habit.
    Still love this setup especially the fule tanks under the cases.

      Thanks. I have trimmed it down since this video. I just spent 10 days on the road in California, had the front break line fail. I did a series of videos on that trip too. Thanks for the tips, I continue to learn

      I can never remember that. I went to school at San Pasqual Adventist Boarding Academy right down the road from there. My next trip is July 2021 on Highway 1, The Lincoln Highway. I will start new videos for that trip soon.

      I took a week from Santa Monica to Chicago, and 2 weeks to return. The KLR overheated a few times but overall it was an awesome trip. I am thinking about coast to coast on the Lincoln HWY next.

    What's your AFSC? New and old? I was an ACFT E/E and now a Flying Crew Chief on the 135. Wished I had two badges like you. Maybe I'll stack two maintenance badges lol.

      I was in the Army from 1987 to 1996. While in the Army my MOS was 91A1P (Medic/Parachutist) and then 19D (Cav Scout). I went to the Air Force in 1996 and the granted me a 3 level to go back to being a medic, AFCS 1N051, then a flight Medic X4N071 (Areomedical Evacuation Tech, C141, C17). I did that until 2001 and switched to 1C5 (Command and Control/Radar Operator). Spent alot of time in South Korea with that AFSC Osan AB. I retired in 2019 as an E8 1C591. It was a good career and there was some time I spent as an Army Guard, Air Guard and AF Reserve but I had 22 years Active Duty for retirement and 32 years over all. My KLR has changed some since that Pre Route 66 video. Retirement has been great, I need to get back on the road!

    You may have said, but what does it weigh loaded like that?

    • @adventurevin7600
      @adventurevin7600  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would say, with me at 240 and the add ons around 100 and then fill them with extra fuel and water and gear I am probably adding close to 400 pounds. I will weight everything when I get home from Oregon. The KLR has done great with this weight but it is a bit too much and should be lighter. My last trip through Mojave Desert and Death Valley it held up fine on soft sand and through Titus Canyon. It cruises easy at 90mph on the highway. Do you have a KLR?
