What started as a simple action SFM short became a gripping thriller of a series - and there's still more to come. (Oh, those echoes are pretty much a common...let's say, quirk in older SFM works.)
The echo effect is intentional. Afterall, they're in old buildings with metal and such all over and aren't heavily furnished. Meaning noise bounces off the walls making natural echoing
