You've come a long way from being a car spotter to being a fantastic car collection owner, fair play to you mate, also after Tavarish 🤣, and Mat Watson the best on TH-cam. Respect, keep them revving!👍👍👍🗨
I like Mat Watson for his reviews but he's literally an employee of Car Wow. Shmee is not only his own boss, but employs other people and owns all of these cars personally. Where as Mat just reviews cars and take a salary
Another great Shmee video, many thanks. And, it's not just supercars that can be expensive to own and operate either. I purchased a 1976 Volkswagen Golf LS 5-door manual hatch for aud$6,000 and kept it in mint condition too with good insurance, etc and my yearly maintenance service costs were $2,000 to $3,000 which also included grease and oil changes at 10,000 km intervals. Incredibly expensive but my car, at the time, was a beast performance wise and would cruise all day long at 145 km/hr and never miss a beat and still have the driest gray exhaust(!). So, basically, like the Schmee McLaren if you're going to look after your vehicle and keep it at tip-top performance and condition it will cost a significant amount!

Depreciation - the elephant in the room of new car sales! I find it interesting that some cars, almost all, depreciate faster than a piano in free fall initially, then usually slow their rate of depreciation, then sometimes plateau. Few reach absolutely zero value if looked after, and then of course there’s those special cars that start appreciating with time and variables such as low build numbers, race history, and / or celebrity ownership (occasionally, depending on the celebrity!). Who would have thought twenty years ago McLaren F1 values would be where they are today? And then there’s the next elephant about to enter the room - as more countries turn their backs on internal combustion engined vehicles what effect will that have on values? Some suggest values will dive, as more cities place restrictions on their use, not to mention fuel sales, and other folks say the values will climb as rarity value kicks in. Going to be interesting to watch, only time will tell which camp is right. Meanwhile, as far as I can see the only real answer is to get out there in your favourite cars and enjoy driving them!
When you do the conversions from Pounds to USD I think that’s pretty normal. I think the insurance requirements are different because I’ve never once been asked about what kind of security we have.
It's my personal favorite out of your current cars and I definitely know how the depreciation isn't really as big a deal as it sounds. I do agree too, once the world goes full hybrid/electric, the petrol cars will rebound for sure in value. Also being a painter, the best thing for the custom color honestly is just a full respray. That's really the only way to not paint the front end over and over to get it to match. Even factory cars can be quite something to match.
those costs sound very reasonable to me. my friend has a similar collection and works at 10k per car per year to run/look after and ignores the depreciation as he wont be selling.
Man it might have caused some issues and I know you don't need reminding but that purple is just stunning and worth it! Huge fan of purple and if I ever own a McLaren one day it will be purple for sure! Truly something to dream of...
Would be interesting what money the LT has made from its videos and ad revenue. Does that go to cover the running cost? And, I was expecting higher £ figures for the running of it
Thank you for this video its refreshing and truthful, usually these kind of videos are clickbait and uninformative. The disc costs are scary for anyone looking at 2nd hand who are likely to end up with that bill
Love these videos. It’s good to see what sort of costs these cars accrue over time. I think it would be cool if you did a few more of these for the different level of cars in the collection.. one with one of the “cheaper” cars (focus Rs heritage) and also for the “hero” car (senna/gt) for example.
Wow Tim! I’m surprised at the maintenance cost! Every time I take my wife’s G Wagon in for service. It cost around $1500. Even when I took my Huracan in for service, it only cost me $750. Again what I find so surprising is the amount it costs from your McLaren to my wife’s Mercedes!! Crazy!
Interesting run through. I do think your valuation is well out though Cheapest 675LT Spyder on Autotrader is a white example (boring) with almost 11,000 miles on it and it's up for £215k A 9k mile example in same colour as yours is £220k although that does have 1 years Mclaren warranty. Whack a Mclaren warranty on it and on a private sale and I'd suggest £200-210k is more like it. Fortunately for us all you have no plans to sell it seems :)
Probably not be insured for the track day through standard insurance, probably pays separately I'd have thought, if he pays at all. May just keep fingers crossed he doesn't crash it.
Fantastic video. Amazing to understand the real world costs of owning such an amazing car and very brave to let us all know. Would love to know how much the Taycan costs you after a few years of ownership as an EV!
Quite surprised how low your insurance is on the 675LT. I have never insured a car with track days in the clause but thought it would be quite expensive to do. The depreciation is all part of car ownership, granted yours is much higher than most. Tend to agree with you though, the value will reach a low point then start going back up

What crazy numbers in the UK :). Tim, please do the AMG GT-R. I'm hoping to get one of those as soon as the market and prices calm down a bit.

This video is so inspiring, I would really love to one my childhood dream car one day, which is the 2010/11 Chevrolet Camero SS Bumblebee Edition, I'm currently in university, but I'm looking for a job soon, which is even more tempting is that I have found 3 listings of my childhood dream car for the price of a new Toyota Camry (I am from Malaysia and its 178,888 MYR [32000 GBP] )...... Its awesome! Those kind of cars are alot in malaysia and also the insurance and road tax for malaysia registered cars are super expensive since you are choosing Camaro SS . I need to agree also with the comment before . A british , german and japanese cars are way way better tbh . Well its my two cents ✌🏻
Useful information. I’m not in your league but I have 2 Porsches and 3 Ferraris and others and I do not use extended warranties at all. If you’re averagely lucky/unlucky, it’s better to self-insure and with a few cars, the pooling effect will mean you are better off, especially with low average mileages.
Great to get an idea of costs. The only surprise for me was the cost of the brake disks. My pretty basic Porsche costs more to maintain than the McLaren! And that surprised me as well.
Excellent content. Appreciate the in-depth look at the runnings of a machine of the sort. All figures were somewhat expected apart from the depreciation. This however, will taper out and quite likely go in the opposite direction in due course. 👌
I think those costs are very reasonable! When you add it across multiple cars is when it really starts to hurt. But the 675 is definitely a keeper! Would be nice to see another road-trip in Europe in the LT.

Very interesting Tim…not such big numbers other than the depreciation. Is it worth it?…yes I would say do but then the figures for your whole collection combined much be really frightening! You are very brave and I hope it all continues to work out for you. Stay safe…😃😃😃
McClarens ownership experience is on fire no matter how you slice it. These cars are an enormous financial liability-and much much more do than their competitors. It’s surprises me greatly people continue to but these vehicles.
I think (apart from the depreciation) that’s a bargain, my dad has a 12C and it’s had over £60k in warranty work in the last couple of years so his warranty is invaluable. But saying that he has gone to a specialist near silverstone and took out their warranty programme and it’s half the price of mclaren official one. Maybe worth looking at? Great reviews and many many of the mclaren owners club have moved their warranty there. Love these videos would like one for each car! New series…..
Great video Tim. Had my 675LT 2 years and bought with 2 years warranty so not had that cost yet but when I do 2 years is now £9,600. Only extra costs over 2 years and 7k miles has been a set of tyres at £800 but I sold my old tyres for £500. The 2 services have been around £750 each and for me insurance £550 pa and road tax the same. Also it has averaged 25mpg and will do 36mpg on the motorway so considerably cheaper than other supercars in fuel. I have had only one warranty claim in 2 years for a lose coolant hose so would have been peanuts. My wings do need replacing and they are being upgraded to vented CF. Overall it costs way less per year than my F355 did and not much more than my 986 Boxster. Going forward the only significant cost is warranty at £5k pa but that is less than many cars repair bills, i recently spent £3,500 on my NA MX5 rust repairs. I am hearing so much that these are the McLaren sweet spot and will probably begin to appreciate from here on as availability dries up as many owners are long term keepers and see them as forever cars.
Mclaren 675LT Spider is still the best supercar out there and a guaranteed future classic. Prices are only going up and will be back to list price in the next 8 years as they become highly collectable

We are almost at the 100k mark!!
Seems like a good guy and a very interesting video. Thanks
