Finally bought my i8 today it is truly my dream car and feels so good to have it.
As I was coming home from work this morning, one of these were driving in front of me! I was intrigued and curious so I had to look it up! This vehicle is so sweet! I loved how the back looked like wings. The turn signal was cool!

15:00 onward really good points. Usually only owners do get that, hats of to you, sire. Its not about acceleration or top speed or top HP figures. Its about the whole package. One can daily i8 and drive 15-20 ... even 30k miles annually with it, no one with their Ferrari-Lambo-AMG does that. Some Corvette guys maybe but that car is not "exotic".
I did daily my i8 for the first 7 months of my ownership and drove over 15k km / 9300 ml with it. No problems what so ever. Compared to your Ferrari, Lambo, AMG the servicing is dirt cheap, parts are dirt cheap, insuring also. Still you'll get that "supercar" kind of look. So yeah, its somewhat posing but at least it is not your yet another 911 - the sportscar worlds "Toyota" (everyone has it, you see them everywhere). BMW i8 is kind of exclusive because it sold that few numbers. And I like having a car that no one else has. For months I drove mine and did not come across any other.

Most American reviewers don't get this car, it's not an issue with the car, it is an issue with the intelligence of the reviewer. You are correct in that this is for a specific market. I think maybe, if the car market goes the way it has to, this kind of format will be very common, if not, well then I guess it's Mad Max time.

Yo ask them if they know how much the Santa Cruze is going to be? These cars are city supercars. They weren't meant to rally drive or anything like that. They were meant to be driven in big cities with lots of congestion where you travel maybe 2 blocks before a traffic light. They can get to highway speed and keep you there, but these are city cars. First and foremost. Urban supercars. If you see these in another country, they get made fun of just as bad over there too.

I had a choice, buy this or buy a Lambo Gallardo. Of course I chose the lambo. But… after all the fuel and oil and the attention it gets, I feel the need to get an i8 now. By no means am I getting rid of my lambo, but Now I want this i8 also as my daily driver to offset the lambo costs.
What do you do for your career
I'd rather get the C8 corvette, or a hellcat.

You could purchase two faster and cooler cars for approximately $150k. There is a reason why most people differ their attention to other cars. The door gimmick is just a gimmick.

car is horrible!!! you are paying for looks that's it. with price way over the top. lack luster electronics phone sized screen and so we even gotta talk about the lack of power? if it went new for 60,000 than it would be amazing but its going for over 100,000 new. the BMW i4 m50 is all electric, way more electronic features and over 500 hp with better driving range. and brand new 65,000 . its newer cheaper faster and nicer than this i8
The NSX is the better implementation of a plug-in hybrid, daily supercar.
Fact, but i8 was launched way earlier and depreciate much faster than NSX. Maybe a good value used. The speaker-played engine sound is a big no no for me, and it sounds like a tractor from the outside.
Just ordered a xDrive G80 M3. I would buy an i8 only if it gets a straight-6 hybrid or full electric

@@shinwang2469 I know that's a fair price but it just feels like a lot of money since you can get something brand new for that money that is probably as fast if not faster...It also sucks because cars nowadays are pretty much 75% tech and software, so an older car really loses value quickly, if buyers care about tech.
@@BN99239 Yeah, cars are always depreciating assets unless you have some super limited ones (CS, CSL from BMW M; GT3, GT2s from Porsche) or any meaningful limited-run ones like Dodge Demon.

You can drive it electric only. Electric range depends on model (Pre-/LCI) but you can charge the battery in sport mode quiet quick. It‘s really a genius Hybrid concept!

I just saw this I8 today in a copper/white combo color. This is such as shit show ugly designed car. It is trying so hard to be something but it looks like a clown car. It just looked pathetic and the doors are so stupid and dated. BMW has lost its way

Here's the funny thing...most people who say it's slow have never driven one. I have a zl1 camaro and a new zo6 corvette amd this car is still fun to drive and pretty quick. Is it supercar fast? Not really but it's much faster than anyone gives it credit for and it handles great! Also, you can tune it for 60 more hp. Also, it has a sport plus mode when you turn the traction off and a hidden launch mode that pushes 0 to 60 faster than what they say it will do.
This car is absolute garbage
