The original will always be my favorite as I actually quite enjoyed the more minimalist approach it took. That being said, I do love seeing Chucky unleashed in the sequels.
I agree - I’ve always enjoyed that original. The Chucky reveal is a classic scene to me and I like the theme Chucky has in the first movie, but I guess it never caught on

Same here! The first movie is really more of a horror tale than a slasher film. Tom Holland once said the original film is not about a killer doll - it's about a mother trying to save her son's soul from a serial killer inside a child's toy. Which seems semantical on the surface, but I get what he meant by it. The second and third movies, although I thoroughly enjoy, are more straight-up slasher films than what the first one was.

Your love for CP2 & CP3 are exactly how I feel about them! CP3 was also my gateway into horror as I watched my brothers VHS tape religiously when I was 3 or 4. CP2 is an absolute masterpiece.
For me, Bride of Chucky will always be my favorite...plus, I got the hots for Jennifer Tilly and her line, "Barbie, eat your heart out", gives me goosebumps

I was too terrified to watch without covering my eyes because of childhood trauma .I was introduced to the concept too early 2 or 3 years old . Always found the movies funny but Chucky as a concept was too uncanny for my sensibilities. I always have this belief that in order to get over your fears you must face them so I knew eventually I would force myself to watch the films..over time I got used to seeing his face and fell in love with the franchise . You are not alone .

Glad you mentioned Chucky having half of his face cut off in Child’s Play 3. Love that look. Maybe more than the look they decided to go with in Bride & Seed
Child's Play 2 is the 'Godfather 2' of horror franchises. It didn't hurt that at the time, Roger Ebert was super offended by the foul mouthed doll.
Child’s Play 1 and 2 are some of the best horror movies of all time for their own unique reasons. It’s incredible what they were able to achieve with bringing Chucky to life in the 80’s.
Typically I find tier lists a little mundane myself, but I've had a good time viewing your personal lists, much more fun to watch!
I agree with this ranking. I would probably switch cult and seed on the board but that would be my only tweak. Otherwise, spot on!
Childs Play 3 never gets enough credit. There is great stuff happening throughout and it has one of the best endings. I am always crushed when someone hates on it.

But if i want pure camp with humor, seed just does it for me.

I remember my Mom going to see the original on her own and later explaining to eight year old me that it wasn't a kid's movie.
I agree with your take on 3. I saw it in the theater twice and loved it. A year later I actually was in a military school so I appreciated it even more. And Bride was the first movie my future ex wife and I saw together so I'm not sure if I still love it or not lol.
But keep up the great content, dude. I swear there are times where I feel I'm watching my twin with your opinions.
Part one is friends to the end for me because it's the one where mystery was possible. Chucky was truly scary because he was used sparingly. That's the beauty of different opinions.
The best by FAR are: Child's Play 1, 2 and 3.

Totally agree, while I have nothing against the rest of the franchise…and I will watch whenever those are on regular cable, ‘Child’s Play 1-3’ are, and will always be my #1 horror story. All three films felt more like a really long movie, cut-up into three parts that just got better and better with each installment. One after the other, the character development was better, the story evolved amazingly…at a pace I was comfortable with and I could understand, and the sights (Chicago City and Ghetto-the real Chicago, Good Guy factory, Military School, Carnival) were an improvement every single time! Those three films were an experience, unlike any other for me, as well as the ‘possessed doll’ story. 🥳🎉
I don't know where they're going with Nica in season 2 but I pray somehow she gets her arms and legs back and is actually able to do stuff

I'm really happy to hear that you actually like CP3. I really feel like I'm alone on an island with my love for that one. I was a little too young when the first two originally came out, so I first saw the third one when it came to the premium channels and loved it.
Yayyy, Cody's Chucky tier list!♡♡ I just checked my watch history, last summer I was going through a hard, very lonely time; I needed a horror franchise to get wrapped up in. I'd never seen any Child's Play films, (Netflix was about to remove them from their streaming platform) so I decided to binge them. What great timing, too! I found your channel around that time, Cody, and was even able to catch your Child's Play 3 live stream commentary.^-^ My partner doesn't like the horror genre, and I'm not as close to my dad and sister anymore who I used to watch scary movies with. Your channel is an amazing resource for me to have, getting to hear another horror fan talk about these films. Child's Play has become my fav franchise now! I remember seeing little bits and pieces on cable TV as a kid, always felt intrigued especially by Bride of Chucky, but so glad to call myself a real fan now.☆☆ Thanks so much for all the work you do, Cody!! Gonna admit, the remake is the ONLY Chucky movie I’ve seen. I absolutely LOVED the remake and it’s made me wanna watch the OG’s!! Thanks for another great tier list Cody!

I agree with three. I think it’s WAY underrated. It was one of the first horror movies I watched on tv too, but I enjoy all the changes about it. The military school setting is awesome. Also, that scene where Chucky puts live rounds in the rifles is so maniacal that it creeped me out as a young kid. 1 and 3 are my favorite then 2, Bride, Curse, 2019 remake, and seed. Haven’t watched Cult or the show. I enjoy all of the ones I’ve watched except Seed.
Good job with your tier list once again, Cody. I agree with pretty much everything you said from respecting the OG to defending Child's Play 3 and holding a grudge against Seed of Chucky for where it led the rest of the franchise, albeit, I still enjoy Curse, Cult to a degree, and the Chucky series

That might have been the quickest like in my life when you not only defended Child’s Play 3, but put on the top tier. I’ve never understood the hate it gets and I also think it’s in the top 3 for best of the franchise.
Damn Cody, figured you would do Halloween after Friday and nightmare since you started out the tier list with those 2 I figured naturally Halloween would be next. I’m not mad at childs play being first instead, just surprised. Really excited/hopeful for the Halloween one!

So naturally with him starting off with nightmare and Friday, I figured he’d go to the other one of the big 3 with Halloween next. Like I said tho, I ain’t mad it’s child’s play tho if we not getting Halloween yet.
I couldn't agree more about childs play 2 it's my favorite one of the series. on another note top gun 2 was freaking awesome. And I just finished season one of Hannibal. good lord it is top shelf!

On my initial viewing I thought curse was okay but upon rewatch it was terrible and the design of the doll is unacceptable
I like your breakdowns, man. Even if I don't completely agree, your explanations make sense. I automatically subscribe as soon as I hear that the Nightmare on Elm Street and Child's Play franchises are someone's favorites, since they're my top 2 also. (Don't remember which of your videos i stumbled on that you said it in, but yu mention it often. I never sub of one video, but as soon as you said that, along with me digging your thinking on things, I subbed right away.) With third in my top 3 favorites being Stephen Kings It (book and both adaptions) which feels like it's in the same vein as Freddy in terms of the psychological torture they take pleasure in and the infinite ways they could kill you, I wonder what your feelings are on everything, even as a concept. So I dunno if I just haven't gotten to any of your videos on it yet, but I'd love to see you look at all of it and discuss. And for me, with this list, I'd swap the top two rows and move everything under the top two rows up one. But again, even when I disagree with you, I completely get your choices. You have a lot of original thinking on things. I hate realizing a channel just follows trends or makes uninformed opinions and then argues strongly for them without acknowledging ignorance or biases. This is one of the few were my disagreements feel more like a matter or taste, AND I often learn more and get an appreciation for things I don't care for. Keep doing you how you do. It's pretty awesome

You convinced me to get CP3. They had it in 4k for 20 bucks at Amazon and decided to complete the trilogy in 4k. And as someone currently in the military, the military school setting has me intrigued. Let's hope I end up liking it as much as you do.

100% agree about your take on part 3. Part 2 is the best. Part 2 and 3 tone are my fav. Bride is also great but it's a bit too much of a comedy. I have similar issues with cult. Curse is solid. My order 2, 3, 1, bride, curse,remake,cult, series,seed. Curse and remake switch places quite a bit but enjoy my top 6 and only hate seed.

Finally just got into the Chuck franchise last week. My wife and I saw the remake in 2019, loved it.

I loved the remake
I love Child's Play 3 for one of Chucky's most memorable lines "Chucky's Going to be a bro." I love when Chucky switches the ammo too. I liked Curse of Chucky A lot. It felt like serious Chucky again, and there were some fantastic shots. Then came Cult of Chucky...ugh. I hated it!
Seeing part 3 when I was a young teen I didn't even know what he meant sayin "Chuckys gonna be a bro" and I'm black lol..more of a 70's thing bcuz we grew up sayin the other word that you'll hear in 99 percent of rap songs

I haven't seen the series yet, but I'm pretty excited about it and glad they are getting a season 2. My ranking for the films is 8: Seed, 7: CP3, 6: Cult, 5: Remake, 4: Curse, 3: CP2, 2: Bride, and 1: CP1. It's really close between the original and Bride for me, but every time I watch part 2 I like it more so maybe one day I'll grow up to be like you... but CP3 really dropped the ball, it could have been so much scarier.

I find myself loving the child's play title movies the most. Once the Chucky titles began I found it too heavily leaning on humor and meta elements . But I agree Chuck himself never disappoints

ADE DUE DUMB AS HELL - Seed of Chucky, Cult of Chucky
Chucky is despite all the stuff that's happened to him, I can genuinely say that even at its worst, its still often miles better than most of the other slasher's movie library. With only Scream being able to rival how consistently good they all are.
I think the best thing that could happen for the reboot is that a sequel or follow-up is made. Chucky as a learning AI would get more of that personality/soul the more he learns/kills. A few of the other issues (mostly the dynamics in Andy’s group of friends for me), could absolutely get tweaked as well. It’s one of those hopes I hold out on.
I’m intrigued with where they are going with season 2 of the tv series. I sure hope some things with Nika are worked out, I feel like her conclusion was the biggest ball dropped.
Love these lists!! Next you should tier the seasons of Dexter.. we all know where the recent season would land.. but it would be fun to watch!! and to see what interesting tiers you could come up for that series haha
The series has elevated Cult of Chucky for me and I'm wondering if it'll do the same with Seed once Glen/Glenda are brought into the show.

Despite my love for the Child’s Play movies, I didn’t know they made Curse and Cult of Chucky till Dead Meat did a kill count for them and that really surprised me up in till the TV series came around…
I never understood the hate for Childs Play 3. Changing the setting of films can often create too much of a disconnect, but I thought there was a lot of moments that fit nicely within the world from the first two. The military academy backdrop was also an interesting choice, creating a double antagonist between Chucky and the “villains” within the school that Andy had to navigate. Worth a rewatch in my opinion!

I'm gonna gave to say that Bride of Chucky is my favorite, I like the others also. I have not seen the rest of the sequels yet but I will. Love the list Cody, I like how you included Chucky with you also. I bet he would love the ranking also.

I love Child’s Play 3. It was the first horror movie I saw by myself in the theater when I was 12 years old. I don’t get why anyone would dislike it.
I like Seed but would never defend it. I think John Waters being in it makes me very forgiving because it just lets you know what movie you’re watching.
I don't hate 3 but compared to the others it's not as good it's ranked above seed but still not a crappy sequel at all, the only one that is crap is Seed, I even enjoy the reboot from 2019 Because of how different they did it

The original trilogy 1-3 are on Top for me (Friends til the End), Bride & Curse (Good Guy), Cult & Chucky S.1 (Hide the Soul) & Seed & remake (Ade Due Dumb as Hell). My biggest issue w/ the remake is the plotholes that it had as well as the design & voice of Chucky. The Chucky Buddi doll was the only one w/ his safety guards removed so how is it that he was able to gain control of all the Buddi dolls & Buddi Bears when they still would have all the safety protocols still intact. 2nd of all how did Chucky manage to drag Karen into the back of the store, prop her up to tie the noose round her neck when last I recall he has the strength of a Buddi doll not the strength of a man since he is not a doll possessed 🤔 I tried to give it a chance but it was a poor attempt @ a remake
I don’t think a lot of people realize, Chucky doesn’t give a damn about LGBT, he even says as he gets killed by Jake “that’s so gay” he only acted like he cared just to convince Jake he’s trustworthy and eventually bait him to kill people. I’m not being offensive here, It’s the truth
I would say I only really enjoyed the first 3 Childs Play movies, after that for me the franchise never really picks up again. Bride was meh for me given I disliked the human characters and Tiffany turning good at the end felt so contrived. Seed, the less about this, the better. Curse and Cult aren’t bad, but they personally weren’t my thing. I do like the remake a lot given it felt interesting though it’s not really a Chucky movie. The Chucky Tv series was pretty below average and a disappointment for me. I still love Chucky, but I’m hoping for a better movie or season 2 to be better as so far I love the villain, but for me his glory days ended in the 90’s.

This list is a very good one for this franchise I agree that child’s ply 3 is underrated and deserves more love and I sadly I admit that seed of chucky is my guilty pleasure movie but great list once again Cody and can’t wait to see what other lists you’ll have

I completely agree about Child's Play 3! I rewatched the series last Halloween season, and I liked it a lot more than i remembered, even though I've always liked it.
Honestly I agree with you Cody. I don't understand the hate for Chucky 3 and the argument of "it's basically the same thing". Every slasher movie and their sequels are the same. Chucky vs Andy, Michael Vs Laurie, Jason Vs Campers, Leatherface and his family vs Highschoolers/Hitchhikers. They are all the same but some are better than others.
The only thing I actually didn't like about Chucky TV series was how they ended with nica (if I'm spelling right) character at the end I hated it.

The child's play franchise is my favorite. I love that menacing redhead doll and his sadistic personality and a lot of the times a lot of his humor works for me, and that's why I love Chucky. he's my favorite killer ever. Great video as always Cody!

This franchise has so much potential if Don will just lean more into the sci fi , supernatural elements like voodoo and possessions and damned souls .. MAN. If we can get a tightening and elaboration of the rules and stakes . More world building . Hires stakes for Chucky and the good guys . I want more hijinks, insanity action , thrills and surprises. Don has an opportunity to really expand this universe

He could do a Tiffany mini series of spin off because Tiffany is extremely popular . He could do a GG spin off which I would expect him to go full on lgbt and meta : he good do a series focused on young or older Andy and him facing off against other demons in his search to unlock the secrets of Damballa . Come on. That would be fire!
Also I really mis the stakes in the first trilogy Ep 1 and 2 specifically were like perfect sequels in the since they contrast and parallel tones and focuses with the first being more about Andy and the second fleshing Chucky’s personality, viscousness and intelligence out more . That factory scene which I’m sure was inspired by Terminator has to be one of the most fire 3rd acts to a horror film

Childs Play 3 scared the sh!t out of me when I was a kid, but I watched it on loop on VHS. The music, the doll, the quotes, the kills. I agree with you.
Yesss child's play 3 deserves more respect than what it gets!! It was my introduction to this franchise and I absolutely loved it. When Whitehurst throws himself on the grenade to save the rest. Man i still remember seeing that scene for the first time.
