I see a lot of comments and it seems a lot of people don't understand this song. I'm more of a conservative than liberal but this song is symbolizing what black people are fed with all the time and what the mentality of an average black person is. We are told always that we are either minority, oppressed or less than and always a target. I personally don't subscribe to that and I haven't experienced first hand being a victim or a target by the system or by racism on a high level even tho we are at times! There are black people who become victims to the system like for example mass incarceration for minor offenses and longer sentences for similar crimes than their white counterpart. This is basically saying walk a mile in a black person's shoes and understand. The better we understand each other, the better we can do in bridging the gap between us. Remember Tom grew up around black people so he saw this first hand!
I 100% agree with you man. I lie in the middle of politics but I can't stand seeing woke liberals telling black people they are oppressed, or calling black conservatives traitors. It's all bs and seems so intolerant. Why are we teaching black kids they will never be as successful as white people? They will never have motivation to become someone great and successful. Or teaching white kids they need to feel ashamed? It's like people seem to think black people all have to think the same way, like why not treat black people like everyone else and accept their opinions like anyone else and let them vote/think however they want? I don't get it. We live in a backwards world where race is everything. We shouldn't let race matter at all and unite as people. Everyone's so divided and I feel like people can learn alot from people like you.
It's funny how this is one of the top comments but barely any likes, shows that most of Tom's fans only like the right leaning side of him instead of all of his message which is about the FACTS on BOTH sides.
Or it's a song made by a Canadian that didn't have any intentions of this left/right bs that you talk about, and he's just showing a satirical view of how certain people view the world.

Yea. He spoke out about it in Twitter. He basically said that White Boy was made to represent the white perspective and If I Was Black was to represent the black perspective
White boy was his perspective and now this song gives you another perspective. Every is on here whining that it's a contradiction, it's not. It's about viewing things from all angles. The world could use more of that.
@@iwellbreastfed pandering to who? I only recently started to acknowledge this rapper and I can tell he raps what he believes. He's not doing this to pander to anyone.
The people in power often endorse the fighting between us, the people of America. The people in power love Black Lives Matter, Antifa, the Proud Boys, Neo Nazis, the KKK.... because all these groups have one thing in common.... they divide us into different groups so that the American people that the Constitution famously refers to as ‘We the People’ will be easy to divide and conquer. I hate it. This is not what America is about. America is about freedom and liberty to all, to pursue their dreams through hard work, strife, and helping others accomplish their goals as well. The black community is a shell of what it once was. If you haven’t heard of ‘Black Wall Street,’ look it up. It’s proof that it doesn’t matter if you’re black or white, you can be very successful in America. Look up Thomas Sowell while you’re at it. He was a great role model for anyone. I wish that the black community would have embraced his values instead of the gangster values that has lead to some of the problems felt in today’s culture. I wish that the white community would have embraced Milton Friedman instead of the Donald Trump culture that we have today.
This man is so versatile he raps about everything and the best part is you can understand every word. Nova deserves so much respect for all her work and skills. Love her song Did your best!
My culture was removed from my family history, I was taught give respect to any individual, if they lose my respect that's on them as an individual, I never worry about their culture or blood line, your soul is the color you paint it.

Soo, in my opinion, Tom's speaking from the portrayed stereotypical "angry black" person that's seen and pushed a lot in the different medias... and *some* black people are offended because not all of us think or act like how we're portrayed... or even have the same life experiences. Soo, it's not right for people to assume all people act and think with their skin color. @@savvyboy7581 I guess I interpreted the song this way is because of his song Whiteboy. He and some white people in general are told that they have "white privilege" and feed into/benefit from systemic racism, "responsible for slavery bc of your ancestors" and other widely pushed narratives that are simply... divisive. It's painting white people with a broad brush, that they all are evil people. Sort of speak. So, again, minorities painting white people w/ broad brush. This song -> Tom (White Man) brushing black people w/ broad brush. Obviously, both are hurtful, but ehh.. it sparks controversy and a conversation.

What I'm about to say is meant as a compliment, in no way am I suggesting that this video is anything other than what he intended it to be.... Having recently discovered Tom, I've made it through probably about 90 plus percent of his tunes. And I've noticed something, and it stuck out to me but it never says it in any video: So he's not only making the songs that project and amplify what he stands for and/or believes in.... He also writes songs that address the dichotomy, meaning from the opposite point of view, a more colloquial terms, he addresses his own stuff from the point of view of a "hater".... As I was first listening, I would become curious about different aspects of his message, and usually within 3 to 5 songs later, I find a song that answers that question LOL.... So here's the big point, propaganda works very similar to what he's doing here. Good propaganda created by good propagandists does not merely just put their message out there, they also put out a subset of the extreme version of their message.... (Which makes the main narrative sound like more of a compromise) Then, unhinged, voices with no nuance and usually of a lower intellect with previously noted extremist views are artificially propped up by the very same people putting out the opposite message. They do this to ensure that the RATIONAL FREE THINKERS are suppressed and lost within all the noise. This basically ensures that the average Joe never hears nuanced, middle path, across the board common Sense solutions to the very problems the people created that are offering the solutions. This ensures that the idiot-average-Joe sees the insanity of some guy screaming about reptiles or people from Israel or pizzas.... It will be an immediate deterrent from even going down that road. However the extremely use will contain a percentage of Truth, and once it is determined that that part of the truth is associated with the crazy people, it automatically shuts down any conversation with people who actually dig deep and provide real unbiased information because of the inconvenience that crazy people are also raising hell about that matter.... What I'm saying is, his music kind of works like that. He has built a spider web of cultural structure that is three-dimensional where he's looking in on himself and then back at itself in every direction. He's basically shutting down haters preemptively. Also instead of suppressing the dark Truth, he puts his own flaws and negative attributes out ahead of anyone who may attempt to dox him or call him out. He's built a very strong perimeter wall around his art. Just remember, if you don't understand how the mainstream narratives and propaganda work, listen to all these songs and then change the subject from Tom McDonald to whatever subject it is you're wondering about...
@@TheNarrowGateOfJesus yeah I like a lot of his stuff, and it was very precient at the time I discovered it. I kind of fear he's doing the thing where he found a niche and is just going all the way in on that niche. He's doing a good job of it, and I've tried to show his music to so many people, and they'll get hung up on a line that was obviously meant to be facetious or sarcastic or ironic and take it as literal.... It is very difficult to introduce people to music these days for a pleather, but overall regardless of his lyrical content he does have actual talent even if it is within this particular narrow band of music because that's what most musicians do anyway. I've done personal deep dives into him and his girlfriend to kind of figure out where they really came from and all that and as someone who loves to figure out the origins of people who alleged to be grassroots and actually are propped up corporate people, I got to tell you his story checks out it seems. I am confused as to how he went from being a nobody addict that was couch surfing to being a millionaire though, does TH-cam really pay out that much?

Kozio235 we are aware of how people think of us. But when these issues are real in your world, you feel how Tom feels in this song and you don't give a fuck. No one has ever said it's easy out here for any color, but when a certain color was held for slavery and released, they were released with nothing and couldn't own anything. When they finally got something it was either taken away or destroyed. When you come from nothing forced to live in a place where drugs and violence is an everyday thing, not to mention always on the fucked side of life with police fucking with you because you're from that area. *Edit: To add to that, in today's political climate lots of people on the "Right" side of the isle are angry about censorship(rightfully so imo) and Tom constantly rails against censorship and the forming of the media narrative against all of us citizens, so there's bound to be an influx of more right leaning individuals especially since Fox News did a whole segment and interview with Tom after Fake Woke came out.

Lots of people aren’t getting the point of this song. Tom is pulling a Joyner, he’s just rapping the other perspective not condoning it.
Yea. He spoke out about it in Twitter. He basically said that White Boy was made to represent the white perspective and If I Was Black was to represent the black perspective

Oh yes Tom Macdonald is such a gosh damn philosopher. Speaks nothing but truth and has very logical reasoning ;)

And I've noticed something, and it stuck out to me but it never says it in any video:
So he's not only making the songs that project and amplify what he stands for and/or believes in....
(Which makes the main narrative sound like more of a compromise)
Then, unhinged, voices with no nuance and usually of a lower intellect with previously noted extremist views are artificially propped up by the very same people putting out the opposite message.
Just remember, if you don't understand how the mainstream narratives and propaganda work, listen to all these songs and then change the subject from Tom McDonald to whatever subject it is you're wondering about...
are u libreal?
That was a very deep comment/ I only discovered Tom yesterday and I have liistened to about 30 of his songs.

@Call Me Ninj absolutely. I thought that heartwarming little message was meant for just this video, as it can appear offensive.
Then I watched other videos and saw the same.. it's a great time to be alive.

I thought about doing a media protest but I wouldn't want a group like Antifa or BLM to get wind of it and turn it into a non peaceful protest. I of course won't start it alone, I'd have to have some people in Atlanta to be watchdogs for me, I'm a diabetic and I was considering handcuffing myself to CNN doors. Not sure anything would be accomplished, I'd probably be labeled a terrorist for it, I'm just so sick of the lies and division that they push. I look for peaceful ways to get my point across,

When you start learning about Malcolm X in History
Until you realize Malcolm X said "there's no such thing as a good white person, if you find one, kill them before they change.." dude was radical as fuck, not someone to look up to.. Rodney King on the other hand? Wow what an amazing revolutionary who truly brought unity. Once whites and blacks come together something divine will come out of it.. we all know it deep down.. thats why we get chills every time we see whites and blacks working together.. if you dont feel it then theres truly something wrong with you

What happened? Did I miss the message? Should I hate myself for being white or not? I'm so confused!
I think it's trying to get people to understand that being black is certainly not easy. The ignorance is abound on all sides, and no one seems willing to listen and respect, relate to and with those different from them.
I don't believe the message is about feeling guilty for being white or anything like that, simply that we as humans tend to be ignorant of others and their struggles.
No, you should hate yourself for being a dumb fucking bitch.
If you all do some research yeah it was actually tribal leaders selling there people to white business men , I’m sure some probably was taken against their own will but history isn’t what you make it and life is harder for people of colour but what you got to remember your not born a racist your taught it
Hes just saying exactly the same shit CNN say,

Is this the song that they were so offended about ???
Time to grow up

I think it was moreso about the cover art. But they completely overreacted

I'm Korean by birth, American by adoption, raised by white parents who taught me to Love my neighbors as myself. So I don't think about people's skin color when I talk and befriend them. I don't care about the color of your skin, I care about the way you live your life. Are you respectful of your peers? Do you respect your elders? Do you obey the law? Do you fight to protect innocence? Are you good to homeless, animals, and children? Those are the things I look for in a person and that's what determines whether I like them or not.
But that's you darlin. He's talking about the bad seeds. They are everywhere if you just open your eyes. Shoot I agree with everything he said 💯 just youtube how many black people get harassment for mundane things like fishing or doing laundry at a laundry Matt. White privilege is a thing! Point blank.
So is no one gonna talk about the literal black people saying* if i was black*
Looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool.

It could also be interpreted as Tom’s personal perspective, so you wouldn’t listen because of your specific race, you would listen because it’s HIS song. That’s just a theory though, could be anything

Is this the song someone in the office was offended by? I'm guessing so.
Yes because some people aren't capable of accepting or even be willing to listen to the other side's perspective. As a white man I agree 100% with Tom's POV but my hope is that black people can become self aware of the fact that this song is how black people are viewed by others and that they will hopefully become self aware
Was going to ask the same thing
This is a complete disapointment, it's such a pander.
@@Kozio235 I didn't get that from this song. It seemed to me that he was placing himself in the black POV narrative. Which is flawed and not substantiated by any true facts just feelings and victim complexes.
Yes there are white people there and they get fucked with too, but not as much and they'll get the benefit of the doubt. Anyways all I'm saying is we've been trying to get out of those views forever now, but no matter how far away from racism we get some people just can't let it go. That's white and black
