Yeah I don't know why you wouldn't take the paddle and just plant it, without cutting it. It works just as well

@@pouyasheykhghasemi2724 because you can propagate multiple instead of just one. Seems pretty obvious to me.

from my experience you dont even need to cut them at all just lay the paddal on the soil but somthing heavy over it and start irrgat it it will growing so fast, overall prickly pear is easy to propogate comparing with all planets

Saudi Ranger how often would you water? I want to grow one for my tortoise to eat so I don’t want to use root hormone but I’m afraid it won’t grow

You optimize plant propagation by making aditional cuts. One mayure pad can be cut and made into about 4-5 identical plants.

Yep... I have a succulent that’s better in terms of ease of growth... I have searched long... don’t know the name... the leaves look like rain drops and it grows somewhat upright, but hangs... grow as easy as opuntia, but no prickles... don’t know if it is edible though... and it is small compared to opuntia

Doesn't matter how you plant it or do with it, opuntia is a very tough as nails plant.

Just be careful with the opuntia species bc eating too many can give you chills and a fever and every person react differently so you never know how many is too many for any given individual. Usually no more than 2 or 3 but some people are unaffected by 10. As a tip, the opuntia variety has a deep dark purple fruit, usually with very thin skin that has no jelly layer around the fruit and all seeds are in the center of fruit.
