    Wow! I've been away from TR for a bit. Found the workouts very difficult and I burned out (understanding it may not have just been TR, but also my doing). But! I'm back and recently started a new TR training plan. I knew what my FTP was back in April, but also understood it was likely 20 points or so less now. When I came back to TR it prompted me with a possible new FTP just based off some recent outdoor ride. Lo and behold, I clicked on it and my FTP is 19 points lower (or within one point of where I suspected it would be). Since updating my FTP and starting adaptive training, I'm finding the workouts challenging and fun! Not evil and or frustrating. Thanks, guys!

    Also, love, love the hover over Progression levels to see changes. Would love to see overtime tracking though I know it is FTP dependent and wouldn’t track across FTP changes. It would be “neat” to see progression changes by FTP levels.

    Ironman triathlete here. I love my ‘Cobb Plus 2’ and have had it for several years. I do 100% of my TR workouts on my TT bike and 85% of that time is spent in aero. This saddle is designed for long stints on the bike and you have to build up your sit bones for it. I can go 5-6 hours in this saddle, typically, with no problems or discomfort. Hope that helps ✌🏻

    Just used FTP prediction function. Nailed it. Knew I was a tad low and the increase is 1%. This will not make a difference for SS and below but will for Threshold, VO2 +, which is what I needed. Especially when combined with Adaptive Training progression levels. Great innovation, again!

Adaptive Training will currently take into account unplanned rides if you associate them with a TR workout. We are working on delivering an update to AT that will account for all unstructured rides as well. Stay tuned!

    As a triathlete, my week's training is split between road and tri bike. This is important to keep the body used to both positions. Hard Vo2 and Sprints workouts are done on the road bike and training in other zones are done on the tri bike. It's now been two years that I follow the medium and high base, builds and specificity plans. My FTP went from the high 290s up to 335W. My FTP test is always done inside, on my TT bike using the tops (not in the aero position). Knowing the above, am I doing the right thing to test my FTP on the TT bike? Is this testing method proper and is this change of bike setup for v02\sprint versus other zones proper for the training plans that Trainer Road offers? Should I adapt this to the new way FTP will be calculated? My watts results are always better on the road bike but my end goal is to be great at tri, that is why I chose the above method of testing. Is that correct or should I test using the road bike and maybe get 5-10W more?

    Coincidence and probably an anomaly, but I actually have a stretch workout today. I’m using AT. I had a breakthrough Wed. However, I failed several workouts because my BB was going out and I didn’t immediately realize it. Back on the same bike and back on TR now my workouts are doable again. I’ll comment if the work out is an epic fail. Also, no adaptation pending.

    So right about appetite not being sufficient to prompt you to eat enough. About a month ago I started using MyFitnessPal (other options out there and I'm not sponsored by them) and it showed me straight away how low I was everyday. Added extra food, my training has been better more consistent, and my weight has actually dropped significantly. Shout out to bowls of Nutri Grain. Also been nailing my protien levels. A question for the podcast/request for the podcast hosts. I'm using the polarized plan at the moment but rather than using the recommended workouts every time, I'm going for progressive overload by repeating the same workout but raising the intensity. Two weeks ago I did Black Pine (VO2 Max 5.1) at 100%. Last week I did Black Pine at 103%. This week I did Black Pine at 105%. And after all that my career VO2 max number remains at 5.1 - it's like the algorithm that calculates the career number doesn't seem capable of recognizing that the VO2 max workout i did this week is harder than the one I did 2 weeks ago. I like this method of progressive overload because, well, it's easy to see the progress. I'm not so hung up on my career numbers but I would like to use the AI FTP calculator and I suspect I could run into the same problem - the AI won't recognize that a workout done at 100% and the same workout done at 105% aren't really the same workout.

    • @TrainerRoad
      @TrainerRoad  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Adaptive Training is DEFINITELY recognizing and acknowledging when you're increasing the intensity of your workouts. If you're worried that your levels arent being calculated correctly though, check in with support@trainerroad.com so they can take a look.
      Finally, you're a great candidate for FTP Detection while its still in beta! We'd love for you to check it out and provide feedback via trainerroad.com/contact to let us know how its working for you. Cheers!

    • @mattdidier8307
      @mattdidier8307 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TrainerRoad Um, I don't think so. Black Pine done at 105% had me doing 4x4 minute intervals at just over 108% of current FTP. Adaptive training is suggesting my next VO2 max workout be Sleeping Deer which is 4x4 minutes at 106% of current FTP and is categorized as "productive". Granted, Sleeping Deer does have a little bit less rest between the intervals. But it really seems to me that adaptive training is telling me a "productive" VO2 max workout is one that's actually easier - or at least not any harder -than last week's.

    • @brianmorrow8201
      @brianmorrow8201 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I wondered this, but on reflection, it risks pushing you psychologically towards a workout that might have a slightly higher av watts, but isn’t necessary the right workout to target the energy system on that day that will make you stronger. I’m on a plan but I typically look at a combo of TSS and expected progression for that zone

      When picking an alternative workout for days when I don't have time for a longer duration one, I like something that's going to push my legs. I usually just go with carter +3 usually does what I need in terms of workload, I just think it would be easier to choose based on average watt in relation to how I feel on that day.

      @TrainerRoad  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      William, advising athletes to look inward and introspectively, seek help, and communicate honestly about their struggles in order to care for themselves is never, ever, ‘dangerous’ advice.
      We share our insight and experience because TrainerRoad athletes write to us at the Ask A Cycling Coach Podcast for our guidance, and we always treat topics of mental health and well-being with the utmost respect: pointing to care and professional assistance.
      The topic of mental health can be difficult to athletes and individuals who are not accustomed to having space made for it. We get it, and it can be off putting to our listeners who aren’t used to digging into those tough questions.
      However, we’re here for athletes like you who write in, William; and while we welcome feedback and criticism always, we absolutely will not stop meeting our struggling athletes with empathy, care, and with the tools they need to seek professional help and achieve the personal and athletic growth they’re after.
      For however many listeners are made uncomfortable by the dialogue of prioritizing mental heath and well-being, it will be worth it to us, as hosts, if it reaches just one athlete and encourages them that they’re not alone in their struggle, and to seek the help they need. We do not believe that is ‘dangerous advice’, and we’re proud of the space we create for all of our listeners to bravely speak to the challenges we all face as athletes.
      All the best William, please feel free to email us if we can help you unpack any of this or to continue this dialogue. We’re here if ya need us!
