And the meaning comes first, text, music, acting, stage setting and singing comes after to show that meaning in the best way possible. Thats just majestic
Wow! We’re so used to hear heavier voices singing Canio but Alagna is truly amazing in this video. Kudos for the soprano and the stage director. Makeup, acting, etc. we’re great, convincing and moving. It really gave me goosebumps!

I agree with alexgomez2. An amazing performance for both principles. Scary and poignant. Check out Placido and Teresa Strata's performance. Who is scarier? I think maybe the latter but not by much. It is all opera after all.
More than any other style of opera, verismo operas like pagliacci REQUIRE emotionalism from the artists. Pavarotti said canio was good on recordings but his live left slot to be desired....alagnas voice is lesser than in years past but this is desk Monaco style pagliacci...wonderful.
Also check out Pavarotti's video of the same opera. At the end, after Canio killed both Nedda and Silvio, the look of sorrow and compassion on his face was unexpected and quite moving. He sang this part so well himself. Well, he was Pavarotti, after all.
Pavarotti's voice wasn't the right one for that type of music.....much better performances out there. Alagna's does certainly not belong into that group.

I loved that performance of Canio by Pavarotti. You are right about the look on Canio's face after those murders. He seemed to realize the depth of what he had done. Also see Domingo's performance of the same opera. When he tripped over a stool and fell while singing, not losing a beat, he showed true professionalism. Don't you just love opera?

He has one of the worst wobbles I've ever heard. What a pity, too, as he was a pretty good lyric tenor back in the 90s. I suppose it's what happens when a lyric voice desperately wants to be a dramatic.

But Alagna got a beauty voice, he can do better, eluminate diffect, but not a perfect technique ruined his voice and wrong repertoire since starting = cracked finally voce

He squeaks so badly, poor mosquito dying, no resosance with music, even alagna much better than that crack disaster!
