I've been ill and not been out much. Every time I watch one of your vids it never fails to Inspire me and get the old 500mm out. Great medicine for me Paul and those Grouse are special. Wonderful stuff as always.
Great video and I was really feeling your discomfort. I just spent 5 days photographing snowy owls from my car in beautiful ice fog conditions, but wow were my feet cold. I’m planning on investing in some heated socks for next year!
I’ve just started shooting high key type photos. I think there are times that you just have to, to get details on the bird. To me the blown out snow is fine. I love the details on the bird. I’ve only seen 1 grouse ever and got a shot of the over the shoulder look and butt shot as he disappeared! Nice work!
I shoot the same way in Arizona out of my SUV with my 500mm F4 IS V2 and a Canon Eos R ..... and behind the passenger seat on the floor I have a 1DX MK III with a 70-200mm 2.8L IS USM III for the close shots......Great Video ...
Is it okay to blow out the snow? I think so. I want to see the detail in the feathers on the bird. I don't need to see the crystals that make up the snow, I have seen lots of snow. I will be interested to see what other people think.
Thank you Jeff for sharing your thoughts. I think this will split people a bit. I tend to think if its out of focus background - then blown out is ok. If it's on the ground I would generally aim for more detail, but having said, overall I'm happy with my photos.
I went to Scotland recently and saw a single Grouse that proceeded to hoof it away from me quick time and then I watch this video 😂 Personally I think it's always okay to blow out the snow (if its neccessary) as no one is looking for stunning snow detail in closer images only for landscapes :)
Enjoyed the video Paul. I purchased an R6 towards the end of last year. It’s a great camera body. The megapixels are a tad low for my liking but the AF is crazy if you can figure out how to get the best out of it. 😂
Where I photographed was fine. But earlier i almost got stuck somewhere else. The snow was too bad, and some ice yes. I use evaluative metering and just add some overexposure depending how much snow is in frame.
Thank you. They really are great fun to photograph. The EF lenses honestly work brilliantly. The only issue is I don't get full speed mechanical shutter with them.
Electronic works very good in this kind of situations. The bird is moving slowly, no rolling shutter. I use most of the time electronic, I like the silence.@@garystone6583
As always a great video Paul, but couldn't help thinking that grouse at 6:44 was doing an impression of Joe Pesci from Lethal Weapon (th-cam.com/video/tSQ0mkxCIuI/w-d-xo.html)

Great photos of Grouse from the car. Their call really made us chuckle.
Great to see the grouse in the snow well done Paul👏👏
Was an amazing day. Just so glad i didn't get stuck in the snow.
Great video Paul. Lovely birds. I love photographing them, they are great fun.
Love it! Funny, and so real. A bird too close, and just trying to make it happen. It's a dream. And a hoot!
Cheers! It was real fun
Very nice❤
Man these birds make ridiculously funny sounds.
They really do!
Great video and images, I love how you were able to persevere and have a fantastic shoot!
Great video and image to see. Love it.
Some great photos Paul.
Just love it up on that moor.
What moor is it

Sounds fantastic. It actually wasn't too cold here - I had to walk in the snow so my feet got wet! Nothing like Canada etc.
This was very enjoyable to watch. Your images and video are splendid. The feather details of the grouse are beautiful.
Thanks so much
Great video Paul. Looks cold! Very cool birds👍😀
Thank-you. It actually wasn't that cold. My feet got wet though
Bonjour Paul ,bravo pour votre vidéo . J’ai le même équipement que vous ( un r6 et un 500mm f4 is )que j’aime beaucoup
A superb video. Brought back memories for me of growing up on the moors near Buxton.
Excellent.

Thank you. I actually really like the high key effect in some of these grouse images

Fantastic. Nice combination. What are you shooting there?
The female grouse was a beauty. ❤❤❤
She really was beautiful. Incredible colour and detail in those feathers. Gorgeous.

Many thanks.

LOL! Appreciate your thoughts there Joe, thank you

Excellent. Yes, it takes a little getting used to!
Those roads don’t look too bad. Wet or icy?
Paul did you use any exposure compensation or spot/partial metering?

Hi Paul, loved this video and never knew Grouse where that nice.
Questions. Do your EF lenses work well with your R6 and adaptor?
Thank you. They really are great fun to photograph. The EF lenses honestly work brilliantly. The only issue is I don't get full speed mechanical shutter with them.
@@PaulMiguelPhotography do you prefer mechanical shutter over electronic Paul.

The R6 has really proven itself to be quite the camera.
Its the man behind the machine.

Haha! That's spot on.. that's hilarious!
