Awesome this is exactly the video Ive been looking for! I've got a couple questions. First, I noticed that some levelers say they can go over wood others not. Is it super specific what self-leveler you have to use? My second question, what's the roller for? Thx so much!
Hi, I am not using slc if wood subfloor bounce. Sometimes beams too far from each other or not too solid. I am using Mapei slc because they have very good T- primer for wood. Roller make slc more smooth. Thanks!
Nice job! I liked the spiked roller you use at the end. I used self leveler over OSB in a small bathroom and even though I used the maximum amount of water specified it didn’t get completely level even though it had the same consistency and flow in your demonstration. It needs the small amount of agitation the roller creates.
Hi Chuck, I am using Mapei Novoplan Two Plus, it's same like Mapei Self Leveler Plus. If you floors have some amplitude moving up and down, mesh and lathe don't help too. If your floor stable, I just use Mapei primer T for better bonding. And very go! Thanks for your question!
It really just needs to be flat. Being off-level isn't going to affect your floating floor, but not being flat definitely will as you'll have voids or high spots under the vinyl. Over time, gravity and foot traffic will cause problems in areas with voids. Think joints coming apart, popping, squeaking when you walk on it, etc. Level probably more has to do with the foundation and/or framing of the house. Yeah, you could try to make the floor perfectly level, but you'd likely have to level across the whole floor of the home. But what's the point? Unless it's so unlevel that you can sense it when walking around, as if you were walking up/down hill, you won't notice any benefit. Worst case scenario, you level the floor and wind up with one side of the home having 9 feet distance from floor to ceiling, and the other side having 8 feet and X inches from floor to ceiling. That said, if your floors are way off level, then that's going to make applying a self-leveler like this pretty tricky! But I'm guessing that's not the case, otherwise the place probably needs to be condemned.
@@medavis Thanks, Michael. Yeah, we spoke to contractor and a friend who does floor installation. Both said same thing- only needs to be FLAT. Nothing sticking up more than 1/8 of a inch. so once its all spread out it naturally finds its own level?
Hi Kevin, compound is not floating , like a water. Need to use a spike roller.
Ever heard of a gauging rake for latex floors, set to what depth you want then rake away with latex even goes right up to the edges unlike a lump of wood which may not be true in being square
Very good advise, but not for self leveling compound. Thanks!
Can I pour this over rough subfloor(The chippy splintered type---best way I can describe it) that the builder used? We want to rip up the carpet and put down click together laminate. This looks cheaper than spending $15 per 4x8 plywood sheets. Thank you! :)
Hi, yes you can use self leveling compound, just don't forget to apply primer for wood, for Mapei it's "T" primer. Thanks!
Hello thanks for the video. I want to level my floor and lay hard wood floor after can I use your method? Thank you.
a bag is 50$ .........4 times more expensive than plywood
What is the difference between Primer L and Primer T
L - for concrete, T- for wood and old concrete surfaces.
@@MrYoucandoityourself thank you!
Hello my friend, nice work! Can this method be done for a second floor? What do you use to block or dam the edges so the compound does not leak into the joists below? Also, how thin can you feather the edges? And if edges have a lip, do you grind it down even to the subfloor?
Hi Roberto, here is the third floor, and all explanations about how to seal the floor from leaking to downstairs: th-cam.com/video/ZN0ANO96e2U/w-d-xo.html
Thanks for watching!
Great job as always. Happy new year!
All the best wishes!
What about the other part of the room where you didn’t apple the compound? Isn’t there going to be a small step between the two areas?
Hi Jacobo, I did all floor in one level. No any steps. Thanks for your question!
Enjoy watching how to level a plywood subfloor using straight edge. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate give them to me. You can support my channel buying this tripods. Here is link on my website page - - Floor Screed Tripods - bit.ly/2uVCPfX
HI, thanks for posting the videos. How important is it to apply the primer to the OSB before pouring Easy Plus mix? Also, is it OK to pour an additional thin layer of Mapei after the original layer is all dry and solidified? I miscalculated the amount required on one of the rooms. Thank you!
I have no idea about OSB. I use self leveling compound only over the plywood. One coat of primer is enough.
MrYoucandoityourself thank you very much for your advice
You are welcome, my friend!
Self leveling compound for floating and glue down installation only.
BRILLIANT VIDEO!!👍👍👍👍
Thank you! 👍
Will self leveling mud shrink when dry? Do you recommend a second coat to keep it from cracking?
If it shrinked - it's not a self leveling material.
Where are you located? Want to use your work
Vancouver, BC
Is it recommended to lay 3/4” wood floor on top of that?
For glue down and floating floor only.
Very nice job! You make it look so easy
why the ear protection when spreading cement??
Hi Pierre, when I mix SLC I always use ear protection and mask, just keep it when spreed the SLC.
What is that roller process for? Seems like it was fine before you did that part.
Roller makes surface more flat. Thanks
Never done this, what is the purpose of the roller?
Hi, try to use it and you will see different. Read comments under this video, and watch the video by the end, please. Thanks!
pretty neat. could you recommend a self leveler that you can nail through? I want to install hardwoods over wood subfloor
It's the wrong idea.
would you suggest putting down plywood over subfloor to bring floor level up then sanding to smooth it level with subfloor?
@@AccountabilityBurns curious what you ended up doing here cause I’m trying to install hardwood over wood subfloor but is currently not level!
@@typhooney first of all i couldnt find a leveler that you could nail through. Some say you could, then others advised dont do it. So i decided to rip out my living room floor and start from scratch, joists, subfloor, then hardwoods. My floor was pretty wack to begin with so i just bit the bullet. In your case, you may be able to use leveler then glue hardwoods down? sorry i can't be of more help
Great video! Would I need to use a primer if I am leveling a plywood subfloor that has been previously painted?
Hi Steve, I would recommend before leveling, remove all paint from the plywood and then put primer. I know it's trouble but guarantee you good results. Thanks for your question!
Excellent video demonstration, well done.
Hi Arturo, Thanks for watching and commenting!
Great video this is the help I needed. Thank you!!!
You are welcome!
No lath? And how thick is that subfloor? Mapei requires 1 1/2" thick plywood subfloor.
Hi Joe, if your floor don't have any movements - not a problem level without lath, but if your subfloor moving up and down lath doesn't help.
In this video, I just share my experience, it work for me. thanks!
@@MrYoucandoityourself Thanks

Thanks! Will do!
Thank you .very nice.
Thank you too!
No damn way I’m going to attempt doing it myself now........ Thanks for showing how it’s done, I think I’ll find a pro to do mine.

Great videos. Can you recommend the max height you can level a floor to using the quick set? My floors are out over 1-2" across the floor where it settled. I'm curious if there is a min or max amount one can use the leveling mix to repair the unevenness. I plan to add a new hardwood floor on top of this. Hope this makes sense.
Hi Len, If you need level just part of the room - you can use this method also - th-cam.com/video/iCk6zCNjsQE/w-d-xo.html
Al room for 1-2" this method very good - th-cam.com/video/7l6ts1YwnfU/w-d-xo.html
Make sense?
What's the roller broom thing called?
- Spike Roller - amzn.to/2hTv8iP
So did I miss something or did he not use any primer?
I never worked without primer.
looks like a nice juice mix ?
Well-marked!
very nice

Class! But can you tell me how you would level a plywood floor (over basement) with many low spots up to max of 1.25-1.5cm if I am installing 3/4" staple down hardwood? Have you ever used play sand for leveling? You can reply in Russian if you like. I have a big problem on my hands and would be willing to pay you for consultation. Spaceba! Steve
Hi Stephen, For this specific leveling (for nail down), you have to use plywood from 1/8 to 3/4". glue plywood in low spots and then sending edges with grinder or floor edger. Than you can start installation. Concrete leveling doesn't work for nail down. Sorry man.
@@MrYoucandoityourself Thanks for fast reply! Have you ever used 'play' sand for leveling? What about also using multiple levels of 30lb felt paper or cheap asphalt shingles? Luan plywood would be easy to use also, but I can't find it in 1/8". I must have some sagging joists because when I put 8ft level next to exterior wall and lay it to joist in center of room, the bubble is level but there are low spaces in between. I cannot permanently raise the sagging joists from basement because I cannot jack up floor where there is no footing. I maybe could raise sagging joists one at a time, then install plywood sister, and then hope it would hold straight when I remove jack. Any way you could call me at 513-207-5667?

How long till it was dry
Oops I figured it out
Approximately two hours.
I have an autistic son that jumps a lot and the center of my floor dip a little over an inch will the self leveling compound crack? Thanks
Hi, very specific question. You have to ask specialist in your city. Thanks
Awesome. You need roofing paper and wire mesh?
Hi, ...and it will call "stucco".
I’ve seen people use it for floors as well. I’m just asking.
How much will cost for one room ?
Nobody takes payment by room. Usually they take money by quantity of self-leveling compound bags they need to put on a subfloor. Each room is very vary.
Could you lay real hard wood over this, assuming you put long enough nails?
After this leveling you can install only floating or glue down floor. For nail down solid wood installation you have to level subfloor with plywood.
MrYoucandoityourself Great video thank you for responding
Ive done hardwood (16Gauge staples) that went through 1/2" if not more of self leveler.
Great video my friend 👍
Hi Highland, thanks, I'm trying show more details.

How coin be you didn't need to go to the edges and corner as well as the other section of the floor?
Hi Ricky, Grinder and straight edge will help.
