  • Painting watercolor dragonflies comes with the challenge of their wings, let me give you some top tips for them.
Of course, you can use these tips for the transparent wings on any insect. I start off the video trying out a couple of different methods, and I would strongly recommend that you practise with them first. Achieving the fine lines needed for the wings is very difficult and will make or break your painting. It is definitely worth going through the process on some scrap watercolor paper first. Let me know how you get on and whether you will be using any of the tips in your own insect paintings.
Within this tutorial, I mention another on fine lines, here is the link to it: bit.ly/3y26rXK

Thank you very much, a painting can take on average 2-3 full days depending on the size.

How did you get the outline on your paper? Did you trace or draw it on. Thanks

Hi Kim, I traced this using graphite backed paper. I tend to trace for my videos to cut the film length down a little. It's always good to practice freehand drawing as well though for that hand/eye coordination. 😀
