    As a replacement daily driver with a little bit of classic Pontiac flare, the Pontiac vibe is fantastic little daily driver and just happens to be pretty quick
    and reliable.

    I have this car. Same year, same color. I've wanted a new car for years, but I've convinced myself it would be irresponsible to replace this one before it dies or is near death. It refuses to die.

    I only realized at the end of your very comprehensive and valuable, instructional, video . . . that you're working on the 2.4. The 1.8 is what most Vibe owners will encounter. Supposedly a better engine, although that's no shade on the bigger one. Thanks.

      Well this 2.4 self-destructed a few weeks after making this video. I had to buy a replacement engine. I made a coffee table out of the old 2.4. See that video. 🤣🤣

      @@Rob-wh3vl Probably excessive oil burning. Sadly, many of these engines had that issue.

    This is an excellent overview of a car that I bought in 2015, while it only had 24,000 miles on it for some reason. It's been one of the most dependable cars I've ever owned out of about 8 other cars since I could legally drive in 1998. Your video is well made, and your humor is nice. I appreciate this video! Thank you.

    love my vibe bought from auction 5 years ago for $3800 Cad with 170,000 kms on it. Im in salt belt canada but rust proof the heck out of it. Has kept it rust free. That dipstick is hard to read mine comes out covered in oil. If you let it sit overnight then pull it out your will get a much better reading.

    I have a 2006 vibe that my daughter drives. She loves it even with it's (coincidentally) 212k miles and still going strong. It has not given me any unusual problems outside a wheel hub that went bad. I am here for the mercedes diesel content since I have a 1982 300SD that you have helped me a ton with, but now I look forward to your Vibe content as well.

    I'm very late to the party, but that issue with the window is a common one for the Vibe. It's due to a loose regulator mounting bolt. Mostly, it's just irritating but, occasionally, it can cause the window to shatter.
    I had an '07 Toyota Matrix for years, and the thing was an absolute little tank - at least until someone drove into the passenger door in a roundabout. Now I'm in the market for a Vibe (I always vaguely regretted not getting the all-wheel drive, and they're more common in the Vibe than the Matrix). This video has been very helpful!
    Funny enough, my Matrix had the same issue with condensation in the passenger headlight. One of the few bits I ever had to outright replace (apart from the obvious stuff like oil and cabin filters, etc), because the dampness eventually caused yellowing/opacity in the plastic.

    • @ImpalamansGarage
      @ImpalamansGarage  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Good point about the window. I've had other cars with a similar loose window regulator bolt. I did not think about it at the time I made this video.
      . To date the window continues to function but it makes a little clicking noise as it approaches the bottom of the travel. Probably nicking a loose bolt head.

    • @adreabrooks11
      @adreabrooks11 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ImpalamansGarage Yep! I've never had the issue myself, but that's apparently exactly what the sound is. Apparently, the window catching on the bolt head (and still being pushed by the roll-down) is what causes the shatter. Just a matter of adjusting it a bit, and it's fixed.
      A lot of these "known issues" with the Vibe seem to be matters of a fraction of a millimeter. Another is the wheel center caps popping off. Easy fixes, with just a little bit of attention.

    I got myself a 2009 vibe a year ago (inherited), it’s at 76,000km. It’s going to last me a long time, if you ever replace your front light, record and post, I would love to watch you do it first.

    I don't believe the On-Star would work anyway because of it's age and 3G having gone bye bye.
    I've never met a Toyota that didn't have a negative terminal caked with corrosion within two years. Definitely spray them up with some terminal protector.
    Replace the 4 struts. I always saw the Camry - and Accord - with rear struts usually going soft before the front. Just get some quick struts to make your life easy.
    NGK plugs only if you replace them.
    Armstrong tires was part of Pirelli for a long time. Now owned by Zafco International I believe. If you choose to replace them, the Continental DWS 06 Plus is I great all season for a light car like that. Pretty good wet or dry, decent in the snow, and ride well.
    In a shop I worked in back before dirt was invented, I once watched this young guy with a box end wrench on the drain plug and hitting with a hammer. I asked him if he was having trouble getting it out. "No, I'm tightening it." 🙄🙄🙄

      This 2.4 liter motor threw cylinder #3 rod straight through the side of the block a few weeks after this video. The rod was never found and is lying on the side of the interstate somewhere. The next video on this car is me making a coffee table out of the left over block. Any idea that Toyota is the be all end all of engine manufacturing is complete nonsense. I had a shop install a low-mile motor imported from Japan. The car is still in service and everything else seems fine.

    Consider changing the rubber brake lines at the wheels along with brake fluid Timing chain or belt? Buy OEM ot DOT approved headlight assemblies too. Way to many cheap clones out there which don't perform correctly. Perhaps a drain of coolant and thermostat. Best of luck. Sorry to hear about your dieselgate issues.
    Toasted my 3.5 om603 due to a few bolts coming loose. Just got it back after about 10 months wait.

      Richard great minds think alike. I found new OEM headlamp assembly on GMPartsGiant.com. These engines use a timing chain. Brake fluid and coolant flushes are a great idea as well!

    I was going to suggest you get a couple of Toyota badges to stick on it and photo it and then send the picture to Scotty Kilmer. 😆 🤣
    Oh well, it's too late.
    That owners manual is awfully big for such a little car. It must tell you everything even how often to change the air in the tires. 😆 🤣

      Yep. This engine actually blew up not too long after I bought this car. The new Japanese imported 2.4 engine I had installed to replace the old one has been great and I plan to baby it because of the design flaws in place. It will be religious 3,000 mile oil changes. It's a nice little car.
