Godly piece of equipment right there. The CDJ 2000's look amazing. Just look at that white LED ring around it... And with a Mixer 900 it just tops it off. Very professional! Also, good work!
Thank you Marcos! I generally don't go back and listen to my own mixes frequently, but I've gone back to this one a couple times and was really happy - some great tracks in this one.
I have a controller right now, but I'm getting a DJM 900 nxs and a pair XDJ 1000 this week and this video is just what I need to better myself at DJing. You should definitely make more of these videos because I can already tell that I am learning a lot from just watching you play with the effects and when to cue in the next track. Keep it up and cheers!
+♫EliteEpicHD♫ I just got mine and it was about $7000.00 including moniters and headphones as well as got cables and the port switch and Ethernet lines
Ludvin Ascencio You should try playing for groups of your friends. Or if the weather is good where you live, try doing an outdoor performance in a public park or someplace like that. Just make sure your town's noise laws allow you to perform outside. If you're allowed to do it, it's a great way to meet new people.
Bro!!! As a fellow Canuck and absolute fan of seedy tech house beats this is fucking A-1 and I couldn’t be happier to stumbleon your channel in 2021 !!! I wish I had humbled myself 7 years ago and found your channel. Fucking greasy beats man You’d have me on the floor all night long for that journey bro Cheers bud!
Dj Bolivia, Just finished looking at your tech-house beatmix. Great tough tracks and good mixing too! I will see if I can get them as soon as possible. Keep up the good work my brother!
Thank you! Unfortunately, this type of music doesn't appeal to everyone, but hopefully even DJ's who are into different styles will learn at least a bit...
Beginner DJ here: what's the use of beatmatching that second track so far ahead of time and then just returning it to the cue point several times before actually mixing it in? Is it only to get the tempo right? I would say you have to tweak the jogwheel slightly to get the perfect beatmatch as soon as you start mixing it in, not much earlier. Am I missing something?
superb track selection bro, i would like to know if u have a tutorial video in which u show us how to succesfully beatmatch the bpm of the tracks without the sync button, cheers
Easy ... check the text description under the video on TH-cam. There's a link there right away, you can either download as an MP3 direct from my server, or go to my SoundCloud page and get it there. Cheers, glad you enjoyed!
Yeah, my mixing wasn't perfect in this. But then again, I didn't have time to do it over and over again for days until I got a perfect take, so I had to settle for a few mistakes.
I noticed that most or if not all of your mixing was using the eqs by dropping the bass and at times using effects to help the transition along. Have been looking at other more immediate mixing like dropping it on the one and using the vertical slider at the bottom to switch between 2 bass lines before switching tracks on the drop etc. Have found it quite difficult to do with tech house as its so constant. Any alternative mixing methods you think i could look up that work for tech house?
I'm not sure? At minute 5? I start hearing things at 7:30. The only parts I can tell sound like "integration" and then "it does in many ways contradict .. some basic premises of your movement." I'm not sure if that's taken from a famous speech (I don't recognize it), or maybe it's just lyrics that the producer made up.
Iban Loomvek, "Liegos" (Original Mix). There's a link to the complete track listings in the text description under the video, if you're trying to figure out any of the other tracks.
great videos! really helpful, thank you!! just one question, let's say you're warming up or closing an event (tech house, techno and deep house mostly) how do you choose the tracks, what criteria do you use to choose a track? thanks
I prefer opening or closing sets. The problem with sets at peak hour is you need to focus more on energy than on quality of music. I should clarify that when I say "closing" here I mean at an all night event, when the energy levels are back down, not closing at a club which is usually the peak of the night. So in those sets, I can pick tracks that are a lot more unique, and I don't have to worry about extended breakdowns scaring people off the dance floor. In an opening or early morning set, I can play tracks that I'd never dare play during a headliner slot.
Hah! I thought I was using too many sound effects there, but I wanted people who weren't familiar with that mixer to at least have a few hints of what's there.
Muy buen mix, hermano!! Yo lo veo muy estilo tech-house. Cuáles son tus productores favoritos de este género??? Recomiéndame algunos con esta onda y buen groove. Salud!
Nice set! I could use your help. When I put my sets up on you tube the sound is very garbled when I listen on my iPhone. I'm thinking it's a sound card issue but not sure. What external sound card do you use?
Try checking a couple things: - Are they also garbled if you listen via a laptop and headphones? - Do they sound garbled if you play them on the iPhone directly, instead of going through TH-cam first? - Do you do any conversion of your set before uploading, ie. maybe from WAV to MP3? If so, do you notice a quality difference there when you play them directly from the source? - Are you listening to TH-cam videos with the steam quality at a minimum of 360p? If not, the sound comes through in Mono. The audio quality actually improves further as you move from 360p streaming up to 720pm streaming.
Nice Stuff! Couple of questions. Is that breakdown at 5:37 part of the song or was it cause by some sort of freeze effect on the mixer? If so, could you explain me? Side Question: What's that white strip on the upper right of the mixer that seems to be touch sensitive? Your answer will be much appreciated. Thank you!
Most of the breakdown was in the original track, and I was just adding some phaser from the sound of things. That white strip is a control part for some of the effects. I'm not sure what part of the following video has my explanation of how it works, but somewhere in this video, I explain it: th-cam.com/video/ItMjXmXKbBg/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=djbolivia
I don't know what happened to that link! I just fixed it, and a couple others in the info on this video. It's strange that the links broke in this video, but not in a few other videos that I looked at. Here's the video you were looking for: th-cam.com/video/lqa2Vs2mW5Y/w-d-xo.html
I can't remember now. I often use Audition (from Adobe) and go directly in to the laptop, but more frequently, I'll record on a portable audio recorder (I'm usually using my Sony M-10 recorder) and then I'll dump that file into Audition or Cubase or ProTools.
I also have cdj 2000 nexus and am trying to record my set like I think you do here, how do I do it? I used to do it on my old controller with rekordbox but I'm unsure of how to connect them and record, thanks man 🙏
No, I don't. I rarely find times that I would want one, although very occasionally I find situations where one would come in handy. For example, I played a set in Halifax nine days ago. Partway through the set, one of the other DJ's, Nick Nonsense, came up and let me know that the sound was a tiny bit heavy on the bass, and low on the treble. That was a smaller room, and when the gear was set up (it wasn't a permanent installation) it was tested at lower volumes before the event, and not tested at full volume. So I ended up trying to compensate through the rest of the set by having my channel lows down slightly from nominal, and my trebles up just a touch. But it would have been easier if I had an Isolater to just set it there and use my channel EQ's as normal. Actually, come to think of it, I can't remember a single show I've played where the DJ had direct access to an Isolater unit. I've sometimes seen them in locked cages with the amps and compressors and stuff, in certain clubs. But I think they probably should remain locked up in permanent installations, because they're probably set properly for the club and that'll keep DJ's from messing them up.
+thebts69 That's a good question. I always call it tech-house, ie. a mixture of tech and house, but that term refers to a single track being a cross-breed of techno and house genres. Really, if you look at my Subterranean Homesick Grooves mixes as a whole, they're probably comprised of about 40% tech-house tracks, 30% techno tracks, 20% deep house, and 10% traditional house tracks. Each week's show varies a bit. Sometimes I'm in more of a techno mood and a particular show will be over 60% what I'd consider to be techno tracks.
Johnatan, i've been listening to electronic music for a long time and want to start mixing. Do you recommend me to buy a dj controller first, or invest good money in mixer + cd players? Thank you!
How much is that kind of set? Coz I'm buying a set and see if I could pull it off self-taught😱😿😁 unless there are classes available here in California or Nevada area would be awesome.
+Kirc2012 This particular equipment is pretty expensive, the CD players were about $2000 each when new, and the mixer was about $1200. But that's Canadian dollars. Maybe $4k total in USD? You can buy cheaper gear though that does the same functions. I'd look at the entire Pioneer line of mixers and CD players before picking a specific model. You can also buy from cheaper manufacturers, but I do really think that the Pioneer brand name is pretty important.
amazing how one guy and a little machine can bring happiness to the world
Jason Collier well technically this is not so little machine
As you can see, it is just as important in DJing to drink every so often to keep your liquid intake up.
Exactly. Never dehydrate.
Especially if you’re in the grips of molly.
Man I have listen to this 100 times and it never gets old. One of the best set on youtube.
+Kera Official Thanks so much for the kind words, Kera. And for a hundred views!
@@djbolivia it’s perfect!!! 2022 .. incredible

Sick mix Mr. Clark! You're a hero for sure. I'm learning so much from your channel.
Thank you Marcos! I generally don't go back and listen to my own mixes frequently, but I've gone back to this one a couple times and was really happy - some great tracks in this one.

+♫EliteEpicHD♫ I just got mine and it was about $7000.00 including moniters and headphones as well as got cables and the port switch and Ethernet lines
Yeah, it's pretty pricey stuff. This is why I don't have a wife. I wouldn't be able to afford both.

Dj Bolivia, Just finished looking at your tech-house beatmix. Great tough tracks and good mixing too! I will see if I can get them as soon as possible. Keep up the good work my brother!

Bit late but I think he does so to hear if the 2 songs sound good together and so decide whether to pick this song.
what a great set ! hoping i can get one.. soon !
I think you are the best
Thank you!
Eres muy bueno en esto me ha gustado mucho. Saludos desde España.
+Álvaro perez Alvaro, gracias por escribirme.
WOW love that drop at 25:38
superb track selection bro, i would like to know if u have a tutorial video in which u show us how to succesfully beatmatch the bpm of the tracks without the sync button, cheers
Thanks Luis. Actually, I do have such a tutorial, here's the link:
th-cam.com/video/jE1TfxQxSP8/w-d-xo.html
i like that set it's awsome.
Awesome 💖☯️💃
Nice track compilation but WHY don't you adjust tracks speed before they go live? I see one deck has 127 and other has 180 bpm
Awesome mix..love your lessons
Great!!!!!!
may be a stupid question but at 16 min how are you mixing at different bpm
when I mix at different bpm the songs drift apart and lost the beat match
Muy bueno, muchos recursos, me encantó!!
Fantastic Sound.. Enjoy Men.. Good Job.. Greetings From Argentina.!
Great stuff man, thanks for posting this.
this is awesome, great drop in
I love that shit!
Thanks Lukas! You're right, it's all about the music.

Thanks Mikey. There are some tracks in this mix that I still enjoy hearing over and over.
I loved it :D epic mix!
unless it just looks like 129 to me ? but its actually 127 ?
Easy ... check the text description under the video on TH-cam. There's a link there right away, you can either download as an MP3 direct from my server, or go to my SoundCloud page and get it there. Cheers, glad you enjoyed!
Great vid.
Thanks ...
You can choose for one of the above gifts
Amazing
Nice tracklist, but why mixing two songs in differents bpm, without adjusting the tempo?
you are the best dj
Nice intro
in my opinion that trainwrecking for example at 26:00 sounds bad.. but i know theres no way to get rid of this
Yeah, my mixing wasn't perfect in this. But then again, I didn't have time to do it over and over again for days until I got a perfect take, so I had to settle for a few mistakes.
Yes there is. It's called beat griding your tracks and doing a proper beatmatching :)

tech house or techno?

apfp14 Just buy cdjs. Contollers are getting updated all the time. This is the set up in most clubs. Cdjs layout stay the same over the last 10 years.

djbolivia thanks for replying - I got a controller instead - ddj-sz, I go to a dj school now in LA, used that kind of mixer too. :/
