You are a hero, Michael. Do you know that? I am looking at changing my monitor display setup for X-Plane 11. And no matter where I search for informations, everyone always points back to your TH-cam videos. They are so useful. Thank you so much.
hmmm, that's not a bad point Aureilo. What made you comment as such? the 39" LG Ultra-Wide is the right combo of height, pixel density, and width. It's runs x-plane great and is absolutely the best possible monitor you can get for your x-plane.
I actually miss the days of the 2D cockpit, with it's switchable views. I used to have a front monitor showing the front view, another monitor showing the front left view, another the front right view, and a fourth monitor showing the panel in 2D! That way, there was no distortion to the instrument displays, as there was no moving camera.
I think your 3x ~60" TVs setup in 90 degrees angles is more compelling. You can get those almost for the same price as a single 49" ultra wide monitor. Plus now they make super slim bezel ones like the Hisense ones, so you only see very small seams.
I'd love to watch a presentation where you had two monitors placed one above the other, the top being for the external view (those 90 degrees seems okay for me) and the bottom one with the instruments panel. Cheers.
Thanks so much for doing that test Michael. Very helpful. My sense is that the best application for these 49” super wide monitors is when you’re trying to get as close to the performance of 3 regular HD monitors as possible, but with only 1 monitor. When you actually DO use 3 monitors however, that super wide aspect ratio backfires. My hunch is the best effect would be to use one of the nicer instrument panels available, plus three regular wide screen 50” monitors, or possibly the super wide 49” for straight ahead and two 50” monitors to flank on the sides. The fact that the 50” monitors are taller than the 49” monitor hopefully wouldn’t be an issue as you have the instrument panel occupying half of your forward-facing vision. Please see this setup used by the folks at AllSportsSystems, a maker of one of those instrument panels. Would love to hear your thoughts on this, ideally via a follow-up review video!! Thanks again and keep up the great work!! th-cam.com/video/QwQ9YwSb-vM/w-d-xo.html
The only issue I'd have with that setup is the narrow vertical FoV outside the cockpit. I'm estimating that our eyes have a natural 60-70 deg arc vertical FoV. From what you're showing us, those monitors appear to limit us to only a 20-30 deg vertical FoV.
Hi Micheal, a good video. Here are my thoughts on the use of the wide-screen monitor setup. For realism the C172 cockpit space must appear about 40 inch. Even an apparent 48 inch ie 20% increase would result in distortion with a 60⁰ per monitor setup gor 3 monitors. The wide-screen panels would give optimum results at 40⁰FOV per monitor that results in a 120⁰ overall for the setup. This however would word great for an A320 or B737 type of a setup but not for a C172. In C172 the Height of these wide-screen panels becomes an issue. One may not get the realism out of the setup even if the instrument panel is removed. One would need a 43inch IPS TV kind of a setup for a C172 sim. This would save the cost of speakers as well. For less than $200 per TV it is the Best bang for the buck. It saves the space as well. Thanks once again for the informative video.
I did that, almost. 55 inch 4k tv and two 30 inch 2560x1600 monitors in landscape on the sides for 90 degree left and right view(running on their own two networked computers). Looked great but the huge screen forces you to look up often if you want to see it all. Not good for your neck. I switched back to three 30 inch monitors in landscape. I also run a separate computer and monitor with Air Manager.
Very good presentation, am considering a single ultra wide vs. three flat panels. I run Airmanager on multiple displays so im just looking for the outside.
Do you have TrackIR or Tobii available to test on this monitor setup? Their documentation leads me to think they are NOT engineered for usage on these relatively rare monitor setups, and so it might be interesting to see what happens with the head-tracking when used here. That is IF you have not already taken down the monitors. I'm not suggesting it's interesting enough to justify setting everything back up AGAIN, but if you already have everything available and already in place, then it might be interesting just to see what happens.
In my perspective, using a projector the realism is better and cheaper. Just one monitor to display the instruments. There is a video here with the title "Cessna flightsim with 180 degrees visuals" that illustrates this scenario. Anyway, thanks for sharing it. Salute from Brazil.
My understanding is that the 49" ultra wide is like having two 27" regular monitors in a single chassis with no bezel between them. So, to get rid of some distortion that occurs in the "hand off" in between these 3 monitors, how would it be to use the ultra wide 49" with two 27" monitors for the side view? To follow up further on that, could a video card handle a mix of resolutions? My thought is: use the 49" ultra wide for flight sim purposes, as well as video editing (gets a wonderful long timeline on that very wide screen) and for general business multi-tasking where one might have a spreadsheet, contacts, pdfs, etc, open simultaneously, but use the two 4k side monitors for the side views with flight swimming and as primary monitors for photo editing. The 4k monitors would offer better resolution and black level for quality photo editing. Is that trying to accomplish too much from one setup? Final question in this line of thinking, does the newest Samsung super curved 49" do a better job for the windshield view and create less distortion in that transition to the two 4k side monitors used for the side views? The Samsung model I'm referring to is the Odyssey G9, which has a much more radical curve to it (1000R) and more resolution as well (5120 x 1440). Thanks very much for all your great work Michael!!
Looks good. 2 wide x 2 high or 4k equivalent in pixels would be great. 3 x 3 even better. (Rtx3080) Most monitors simply cheap out on the vertical. My 3 x 24" 1920x1200 dell screens are similar in the anemic vertical department.
Sometime I want an invitation to Michael's playroom. Looks like Michael's has been having more fun than that Austin guy. I've often wondered what using cheap but big 4k TVs running at 1080P would look like. I played my laptop x-plane copy to our 4k TV (1080P resolution). I thought it looked more clear than my 24 inch 1080 monitors and the 50 inch screen was impressive. Alas, wife won't share.
These are great monitors but this demo shows that even with a top-notch PC, one needs to choose between a detailed and true to life scenery immersion with one monitor or a setup like this one that requires a serious reduction in scenery details to keep a smooth flight as we could see in the demo here... And if we think about it, it's a little bit strange and ironic because the purpose of 3 monitors like these is to enjoy some VFR virtual flights over detailed scenery... So personally, I choose scenery immersion in 2020. I don't think 3 monitors like these give me satisfaction especially if I have a strong PC but then I am forced to fly over dull and empty scenery that looks like what simulators used to have more than 10 or 15 years ago... And for this reason, I stay with one modest HD monitor and I use my mouse to pan :) But I can't wait to see what Vulcan can do, because a surround visual like this one can be so much fun with the immersive scenery we can get today for XP11.
Thanks for sharing, but wouldn't two on top of another be a great compromise ... you can see the entire cockpit while having a reasonably wide angle of view ... but you need wall mounts for that!
What’s wrong with the super wide monitors is a lack of vertical raster height which deprives the SIM pilot of a full windshield height, low panels switches, and easier viewing access to ceiling panels. Most likely SIMmers would be happier with three 27 or 34 inch standard monitors, 2 or 4K rather than super wides seeking the thinnest bezels they can find, but don’t forget, outer monitor bezels can overlapped behind the bezels of the center monitor.
38x1080? i hope they come with a more round shape (not only curved horizontally), like a layed egg, so there is some of the upward view. Who is the manufacturer, could pick up the brand.
Hi Michael I was looking at your videos on how to connect the g1000 bezel to x plane. I got x plane 11 and I am having problems connecting thoes bezels. the problem I am having is this excutive file you said that x plane downloads I dont know where to find that file. you talk about it but you didnt say where you find it. can you please help me? and if other people are seeing this file can ull help me out with connecting this g1000? thanks in advance
I have an important question that might be increasing the use of air manager. I have been asking people with xplane10 but can apply to any simulator. In order to see 180, we use three monitors for panoramic views or 3D cockpit also but if the 3D cockpit can be remove(instruments only), then we can use head tracking with if we keep the 3D capabilities. I was told that is not possible but I found one plane that is not finish in xplane10 under experimental planes with name VAN'S AIRCRAFT. When I started, I only see the panoramic view (no instruments or cockpit) but my head tracking was working and I can control head movements in order to have realistic view of the outside. This is fantastic to combine with air manager because you can have only one monitor for the view using head tracking and the second one for air manager instruments. Using four monitors requires a lot of PC. Any idea how we can remove the cockpit with our loosing the 3d capability. Thank you.
I am wondering about going with a 50" TV. Reason? It's ultra wide and ultra tall. And my GTX 3080 will drive one 4K display at 50 fps, but with one ultrawide, or two separate 4ks, I have to run at 50% of native resolution to keep >30 fps.
You need a proper curved monitor for this, that has 1000R curvature. Samsung Odyssey G9 49-inch 1000R monitor deliciousness. If you go all out, you need best of the best.
Each monitor has 5120 x 1440 pixels...that’s roughly equal to four “typical” 1920 x 1080 (21”) monitors. Two of these curved monitors = 8 regular monitors...3 is an insane amount of pixels!
HI Michael, i just bought a 34inch AOC curved gaming monitor, and X-Plane 11 is dipping out on the FPS, is there specific settings that i would have to enter into X-Plane 11 to get the simulator to be happy with FPS, my screen is 144hrtz with Free Sync i have not changed any settings for the monitor out of the box best regards Rod
Michael, I enjoy your reviews and today I noticed you did something I've never seen. You used your hat switch to scroll your view in different directions. Can you share how that setting is accomplished? Thanks.
Its very easy. Go into the Settings screen > Joystick and look at the drop down boxes on the right (see pic in link below). Now just use the hat switch in any direction and you'll see one of the boxes light up. For example you push hat left and you might see a box labelled "Do nothing" light up. Go to that box, click on it and from the drop downs select Pan Left or Glance Left etc Do this for the rest of the directions. Once done go back to the sim and test it. You can adjust speed by selecting Look left quickly etc www.x-plane.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/other-views-e1483650716352.png
@@CyberSystemOverload Thanks for the response. I tried it and it works as simply as described. I need to tweak my views but I like this method better than having to use the numeric keypad to switch common views.
With your two monitors it looks like most of the instruments are on the LH monitor, or directly in front of the Pilots seat which is what you want but how does that affect visibility especially in doing LH circuits in the C-172?
Two 32:9 monitors vertically stacked would be a 32:18 aspect ratio, or.... 16:9. So you might as well just use a much more affordable 16:9 display at that point.
Hello Michael. Sorry for the text errors, but I'm using Google Translate. In your video "49 inch super ultra wide curved display plus two 27 curved display .... How can you make it work? Do you use AMD? I use Nvidia and iRacing game and I couldn't. Can you help me? Thanks...
I hook up 3 monitors and it looks ok but it slows down the sim rate to 50% of real time making a 1 hr flight last 2 hr. Not a high end computer. I would probably do better with 1 of those monitors.
ok I have a 27" front monitor and a left and right monitor that are 24" (ie left and right window).......any tips on getting those aligned, the bezels etc....Any assistance appreciated
hey buddy did you try process lasso so yo can dedicate the cores you want just for x-plane 11 look in to it!!! and enjoy your videos a lot keep it up your the only guy i watch trying hardware on flight sim stuff
Thanks Mike for the videos. I have a 34" UWS 2K and have noticed the AA is really poor in XPlane and believe me I've tried everything with playing with the AA slider and the nVidia control panel. Running XP on XForce machine. RTX 2060 6Gb card with up to date driver. Is there something I might be missing. Im at 2x FXAA SSAA and the jaggies are profound. Any help or advice super appreciated.
Can you please do the same setup but run it on Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 please? It would be awesome to compare such setup with X-Plane 11. Thanks!
I couldn't agree more. Especially with the higher rez headsets. I don't care if the monitor is 144 hz bla bla bla...nothing beats being IN the plane. 2d can't compare.
@@xforcepc i bought 5 at our local Canadian Tire store years ago,, they cost around 5 bucks each,, held together now with duct tape,, I don't knwo they stopped making them they were the best thing ever,,, BY the Way great bit on the monitors what a great setup for immersion,, You must need a good graphics card and PC to run all that
number of world objects should be on high at least with that cpu. 38 fps is pretty bad for such a high end machine on relatively low settings. I guess the number of monitors/size of monitors is a factor. I think I'd prefer one smaller monitor with higher fps than the alternative. I have nearly given up on xplane with such bad performance. I don't see the point of spending so much money on hardware when they could produce better software that would run on older hardware and yes I know they only have like one guy working on graphics.
Mike - You mention Vulcan - I made the mistake of buying a Ryzen 2700 on a 1080Ti with Ultrawide curved. FPS is pretty terrible running one monitor let alone 3. Do you know of any ways to improve XP11 on an AMD setup?
Hi Michael, could you pls try 2 curved, super-ultra wide joined in the middle of the external view? Looks like the center support for the B737. Will this work? Configuration?
Sorry Michael but because I am a committed Apple user, I am spec'ing out purchase of an Apple Mac Pro tower to work with my SAMSUNG LC49RG90SSNXZA 49-Inch CRG9 Curved Gaming Monitor [featured in this nice video] It can give resolutions as high as 5120 x 1440 @ 60 Hz & 3840 x 1080 @ 120 Hz HDMI or Display inputs. Question??? Michael do you think the following Mac Pro hardware spec's run X-Plane at its best with this monitor? 3.5GHz 8‑core Intel Xeon W processor, Turbo Boost up to 4.0GHz 32GB (4x8GB) of DDR4 ECC memory Radeon Pro W5700X with 16GB of GDDR6 memory 1TB SSD storage
It will run like a $1000 pc. Macs don't game well. A server processor is not for gaming. ECC memory is not for gaming. Radeon Pro cards are not for gaming. Go ahead and make your donation to Apple. It will be a super expensive mediocre performer.
@@xforcepc Yes Michael you convinced me. I have come around and about a week ago asked X Force Sales to spec. out a Comet based Flight Sim PC configuration. Following is info to help you customize an XForce proposed configuration . Beside the RG90 49" monitor, I also have a Track IR, Pro pedals and a Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback 2 Joystick so should be Ok, right??? I fly my Bristell N67PV from KCEU [Clemson] in the left seat with a stick in my left hand, including hand brakes on the sticks, plus a center console hand throttle . You seem to think a separate instrument touch screen is better with this monitor? My airplane panel has a dual G3X touch screen plus a Garmin GTN 625 mainly for IFR, Garmin autopilot & 2 radios so I wonder if someone has an air manager to come anywhere near close to replicating it? I am curious as to when you expect to have a proposal for me? I am hearing that PC parts are getting scarce..... Thanks Steve Chase
try them stacked vertically
One for the instrument panel, at least. And a separate smaller one for the overhead panel in airliners.
Or one behind another

Awesome! I wonder if the center could be a vertical HDTV. Then the screen could go low and display the instruments.
We need more panel view! Stack em vertically, everyone here is asking for it , please Michael!
Yeah, I'd be interested in seeing that too. The bezel line could go across the top of the panel
Thx for thins I wanted to see what 3 screens look like side by side.
How about arranging four screens two side by side and one each on top of each other
my future set up be 55 inch in center with 32 on sides
I did that, almost. 55 inch 4k tv and two 30 inch 2560x1600 monitors in landscape on the sides for 90 degree left and right view(running on their own two networked computers). Looked great but the huge screen forces you to look up often if you want to see it all. Not good for your neck. I switched back to three 30 inch monitors in landscape. I also run a separate computer and monitor with Air Manager.
See now that sounds like the way to do it 👍😎 I'm trying to get some ideas...and not sure how the tv quality would be as a monitor.
Would be nice to see the instruments.
Yes, that's why I don't like ultra wide. Vertically too narrow compared to the 27" standard
... and you're now sitting in a Cessna with an 8' wide cockpit!

I think, if you can try 2 monitors, but placed one on top the other.. Is that possible?
Forsaken-Ice That’s a good idea
I was thinking the same. I rather have the extra vertical view than horizontal view.
Try 3 in portrait mode. You will get reasonable FOV and the most important: fully instrument visibility. I did it with 3 24" 1080p monitors.
Guys… Your channel is amazing buy, WHY don't you do the video for people that it is starting and don't know what software and add ons are needed?
what about one large main monitor and two narrow monitors for the side view?
it would still be easier to project a picture on a wall via any projector
Do you have TrackIR or Tobii available to test on this monitor setup? Cool video!
Why not try and stack couple of these 49's on top of each other? Just for fun.
A good size TV is still properly the better though.
you have more space than in an actual 172 :D

VZ_ 342 hé says 3840 by 1080? So it’s actually 6 monitors not 8
HI Michael, i just bought a 34inch AOC curved gaming monitor, and X-Plane 11 is
dipping out on the FPS, is there specific settings that i would have to enter into X-Plane 11 to
get the simulator to be happy with FPS, my screen is 144hrtz with Free Sync
i have not changed any settings for the monitor out of the box
best regards
Rod
Michael,
I enjoy your reviews and today I noticed you did something I've never seen.
Go to that box, click on it and from the drop downs select Pan Left or Glance Left etc
Do this for the rest of the directions. Once done go back to the sim and test it. You can adjust speed by selecting Look left quickly etc

@@CyberSystemOverload Thanks for the response. I tried it and it works as simply as described. I need to tweak my views but I like this method better than having to use the numeric keypad to switch common views.
Please do it again with the Vulcan beta
With your two monitors it looks like most of the instruments are on the LH monitor, or directly in front of the Pilots seat which is what you want but how does that affect visibility especially in doing LH circuits in the C-172?
I think at this point VR is the better option. XPlane's VR implementation is pretty good
Michael, Try stacking the monitors to increase your vertical view.
Thanks for sharing. Is it possible or a good idea to use Three 42" television as monitor?
ok I have a 27" front monitor and a left and right monitor that are 24" (ie left and right window).......any tips on getting those aligned, the bezels etc....Any assistance appreciated
Michael, your videos are great, good detail. Are you planning on getting into VR?
Great video
so what is better the 4k tvs that you had or this set up which feels like monitor real-estate from the top is missing
It was a STUNT. Nothing more.
The last comment is probably right, Michael - let's try 3 x 55" LG CX?
11:13 All the Tom. I'm guessing he lives in the southern midwest.
What's "8 and a half feet"? That looks like somewhere between 2 and 3 metres
hey buddy did you try process lasso so yo can dedicate the cores you want just for x-plane 11 look in to it!!!
and enjoy your videos a lot keep it up your the only guy i watch trying hardware on flight sim stuff
I have tried it on a number of occassions and found it to make zero difference. I may re-visit it again for a third time with Ryzen.
Any help or advice super appreciated.
one 49 inch monitor or VR Headset?
What what you take? (Flying on Vatsim/Ivao)
Hey Michael, how about stacking 2 on top of each other?
This, very much this. (Like TouchTrainer does with their visuals/ panel)
There is a lot of distortion with multiple monitors. Someone should fix this so the perspective is not broken.
Looks like a german looking out of a bunker on D-Day ;) Too Freaking Narrow
Can you please do the same setup but run it on Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 please? It would be awesome to compare such setup with X-Plane 11. Thanks!
i feel , as of now...VR is the only way to fly !
I couldn't agree more. Especially with the higher rez headsets. I don't care if the monitor is 144 hz bla bla bla...nothing beats being IN the plane. 2d can't compare.
VR is the future of flight sims for sure but people seem to be ignorant about it and even Michael doesn't care. Sad...
@@darkshadow7709 cause the resolution and frame rates required are still juuuust a little bit still in the future too.
@@57Raz Not anymore. Check Rift S, Valve Index, Pimax 5K/8K and HP Reverb G2 for reference :)
@@darkshadow7709 Thanks!
okay Luv your setup,,, BUT,,, Dude,,, the "Frigde " drink cooler,,,, I would luv to be able to buy some of them ,,,
I KNOW!!! I bought some on EBAY about a year ago and had to pay about $30 each. Love them.
@@xforcepc i bought 5 at our local Canadian Tire store years ago,, they cost around 5 bucks each,,
held together now with duct tape,,
I don't knwo they stopped making them they were the best thing ever,,,
BY the Way great bit on the monitors what a great setup for immersion,, You must need a good graphics card and PC to run all that
Hey Mike, do you think it would be possible to run a 3 display 4k setup with 5950x and 3090 plus 64 ram or would 3x 5600x and 3x 6800 be better?
Now another row of monitors on top so its not such a narrow slit ;)
You just need a 4th one for your instruments.
NICE!!
number of world objects should be on high at least with that cpu.
Update your BIOS on your motherboard and buy a Ryzen 3600. Most likely, your board supports it with a BIOS update.
This issue is not in FSX.....Hope XPlane solves it soon!!!
And then VR headsets were released lol. 299 and you have all the screen you need (quest 2)
You never show what it might look like for 737 or a320. Why?
because it would look like shit and be a slide show
Ive got only the half of screens in ratio in this video, hère it’s overkill xD
5x 3840*1600 38" ultrawides is even better :D
How would the frame rate be with 2 pc's and three 55 inch 4k tvs? Thanks, J
Also, what kind of GC would we need to coonnect 3 monitors/tvs?
Dont you think that if you get second card you would get better fps?
Xplane only uses the primary card for rendering.
What about a VR headset
Nice...If you can afford them..
that is wider than an actual cessna
Hi Michael, could you pls try 2 curved, super-ultra wide joined in the middle of the external view? Looks like the center support for the B737. Will this work? Configuration?
Wooooooooow!!
why do you need 2x SSAA?
Sorry Michael but because I am a committed Apple user, I am spec'ing out purchase of an Apple Mac Pro tower to work with my SAMSUNG LC49RG90SSNXZA 49-Inch CRG9 Curved Gaming Monitor [featured in this nice video] It can give resolutions as high as 5120 x 1440 @ 60 Hz & 3840 x 1080 @ 120 Hz HDMI or Display inputs.
Question??? Michael do you think the following Mac Pro hardware spec's run X-Plane at its best with this monitor?
3.5GHz 8‑core Intel Xeon W processor, Turbo Boost up to 4.0GHz
32GB (4x8GB) of DDR4 ECC memory
Radeon Pro W5700X with 16GB of GDDR6 memory
1TB SSD storage
Have you heard about head tracking.
