Actually, Janet recorded 2 full albums (Janet Jackson- 1982 & Dream Street- 1984) before she went to Minneapolis to record her 1986 Control album with Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis during 1985-86. Also, she acted on the tv shows Good Times (Millicent 'Penny' Gordon 1977-79 ), Fame (Cleo Hewitt 1984-85), Diff'rent Strokes (Charlene DuPrey 1980-84) & appeared on a two part episode of The Love Boat (Delia Parks 1985).
