Summary:
Born in Washington DC in 1942, Peter Thorkelson met superstardom in his early twenties when the politically interested musician, songwriter and actor was referred by his friend Stephen Stills to audition for a part in a pop-rock-band tv show: The Monkees. He became one of the characters on the show in 1966, and a member of the band that emerged from that show: a quartet that would become icons in American pop culture for several decades. The Monkees tv show lives on in syndication, and the Monkees band has reunited many times, including a King Biscuit video release. Throughout, Peter Tork has continued his own musical journey, married a few times, and battled cancer, writes an AskPeter column on his blog and continues to perform with and without his Monkee bandmates. He recently stopped by Wolfgang's Vault for a rare and exclusive Vault Session to play some familiar and some less familiar tunes and to tell us about the upcoming Monkees reunion tour. Enjoy.

Peter, along with the rest of The Monkees, were such a huge part of my adolescence, and they continue to be a big part of my life. I feel awful knowing that he's gone, but I'm forever thankful at the mark he's left on me.

Donna Green I understand your take, perhaps Peter removed himself from the bright lights post Monkees and I didn't know much of him..As a child enjoying the music of the Monkees (and now) I thought he was somehow mute, thats entertainment, painting ppl the colours it needs.

It's so encouraging to see that professional guitar players use the thumb cheat too... Thought I was just avoiding doing it the other way
It's not a "cheat", it's a technique... ;)
I’ve never thought a sold-body electric guitar works as a solo (unaccompanied) instrument or as an instrument to accompany a solo singer, and this performance does not tempt me to change my mind. The best song here, by far, is “Till Then”. Tork’s chord voicings on it are more sophisticated than on a typical Monkee’s-like pop song, but, unfortunately, he seems fairly oblivious to voice leading. His voice is not as raucous on any of these songs as I seem to remember it from the Monkees, but I wouldn’t say that he’s really singing either. I can’t tell if “Dress Sexy for Me” is supposed to be a parody of sexism or just deliberately obnoxious, but either way, I find it grating. Tork’s various pleasantries would be perfectly tolerable if he didn’t consider them full-fledged jokes and expect-then demand-actual laughter.
Horrible host, an Tork is not the easiest person to interview.
