    Great show on the sander. I too find that it helps loads, especially on the inside of bowls. And there IS something quite therapeutic about hand sanding.. so you are definitely not alone on that! Thanks for sharing

      Thanks Dana, I'm getting the impression I'm NOT alone with hand sanding:) Thank you for taking the time to comment! :D

    Great demo Dave. Thank you! I made a homemade version of this sander and it seems to work great, but I totally get what you say about the meditative aspect of hand sanding. I look forward to that as one of the last steps in making a bowl. Other than the dust, I find it relaxing and satisfying. So glad I found your channel. I love your style and on-screen presence. Keep it up!

      Thank you Lou, I'm glad I'm not the only one who gets lost in sanding! You have been very kind with your comments and I look forward to showing you more in the future. Thank you again, take care, Dave.

    I found your channel purely by luck. So glad I did. I'm a total newbie so I hope to learn a lot from your good self. No pressure intended lol. X

      Hi Steven, nice to meet you and welcome aboard!

    Lovely kit!! Would love me a sanding kit like that, maybe some day :) The collaboration is going to exciting! Can't wait to see what we all are going to come up with! :) I've got some sanding pads I made for myself for my drill, and I also cut out my own disks from strips of velcro backed sanding paper I can buy cheaply at a hardware store near my house. It works.
    Yuval.

      The only reason I buy things like this Yuval is for Christmas or Birthdays... any other time (unless it's a chisel or gouge) I make my own tools and jigs.
      I can't wait to see what everyone is making for the collaboration - for me it's a great way to meet some of my heroes, as a lot of them I have been watching while I have been learning for the last year! I count myself very fortunate to have been asked to join in!
      :D

      @yuvallahav 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I was wondering how much you had to pay to Steve for that honor ;) I'm the same, Christmas or birthdays are the only time I actually spend any real money on my hobby, but hey, it's better then nothing!
      Yuval.

    Great demo Dave. I recently got a similar bowl sander from Simon Hope, and cannot believe what a great finish these bits of kit give, in much less time. Also, good tip about cutting your own pads from bigger stock, it really does save a lot of pennies :)
    Very enjoyable video mate.
    Take care
    Mike

      Thank you Mike, I can't wait to see your video on the Simon Hope one - not seen that yet. These ARE great bits of kit - although I DO love hand sanding to finish a piece, this does cut that down quite considerably. Glad you enjoyed the video Mike (you nutter!). Take care, Dave

    hi Dave not been turning much longer than you watched all your videos to date now, I have no knowledge at all and I am impressed with your confidence to put out videos and that is also the only way I have learned anything, don't know if you are member of Woodchuckers or not but that is a good group of people by the way I am 69 years of age who says you cant teach old dogs new tricks , happy shaving making

      Hi Ray, thanks for popping by and saying hello! It is very kind of you
      to comment and spend time watching my videos! I am lucky in the sense I
      seem to be able to pick up tool use quite quickly... although I have
      spent a few hours almost every night since 1st November 2015 in my shed
      practicing, so practice, practice practice!
      I am a member of Woodchuckers - it's an amazing group - I love it!
      See you soon I hope!
      Take care,
      Dave

    Great video Dave. I have the Simon Hope sander, it is great. The cheapest way to make new discs is to buy sheets of Rhynogrip and cut it up ( cheaper than the large sanding discs ) I have a punch I use for making the discs. All the best, Jim.

    • @TurningWorks
      @TurningWorks  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheers Jim! I'll look into that Rhynogrip stuff tonight. As for the
      Simon Hope sander - someone we all know will be making a video on that
      very soon (and it's not me!) ;)

    • @TurningWorks
      @TurningWorks  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Phil - I'm no expert as you can see, but it's worth showing as it's a cool tool and built like a tank! The double bearings give me a lot of confidence that it won't go off centre. Thanks for the comment! :)

    Good review. I've not done many bowls so far so couldn't justify buying one. Maybe in the future.

      If you do start doing bowls I would definitely recommend buying one of these - it makes SUCH a difference! Thanks for commenting again Paul - Love your channel by the way! :D

    where can I buy that chuck I love it
    and keep going with the video's

    • @TurningWorks
      @TurningWorks  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Luuk thanks for watching and your kind comments!
      The chuck is an SK100 from Axminster with 'C' Type jaws. There are many jaw sets available which fit onto the chuck for different purposes.
      It was the first big purchase I made after starting wood turning.
      www.axminster.co.uk/axminster-clubman-sk100-woodturning-chuck-ax915228
      with a mind boggling amount of jaws to go with it!

      I hope this helps you Luuk!
      Take care,
      Dave
