Michael! Great video as I'm about to dive head-first into setting up a smart home with Home Assistant. BRILLIANT (and humble) of you to bring Ashley in and get her perspective. Most people would be lucky to have a relationship like this! I'm personally struggling with the perfect balance for me (and my spouse) between "too much complicated automation" and "we could use more!". I'm terrified of a situation where I install a ton of stuff and now I have a full-time job babysitting all the devices, protocols, hub, software, settings, etc. etc. etc. Keep the videos coming. Please do more like this!

Thanks! Yes, I am super lucky. Upfront and clear communication is important to avoid surprises and frustrations. Good luck diving into Home Assistant -- this channel is all about helping you on that journey!

I am so overwhelmed with the vast information about smart home devices.

It’s a lot to digest at first and can seem overwhelming. Try just getting started. If you have an iPhone, start by using the native Apple Home app and adding one smart home device to it, like a smart light bulb or smart light switch. If you have an Android, you could pickup an Amazon Echo or Google Home hub, and try adding one device to those. Play around with it to get acclimated and see how it goes.

Enjoyed the video! And loved the second perspective at the end. I just got a house with my partner, and have setup Home Assistant Green. Replaced every light fixture with smart LED ones and did smart switches for the bathrooms. I got some motion sensors set up for automatic lights and got the smart garage setup as well. I think for now i want to setup smart blinds, and a smart vacuum then start really working on fine tuning the automations.

Sounds like you're off to a great start! Green makes it so much easier to get going with Home Assistant, so I'm glad that's now available. Smart blinds or shades have been on my list for years, but that does not yet have partner approval. :)

Thank for the great video. Do you plan to make a tutorial on icloud3 integration for location monitoring?

what was that button on the bedside table? I've been looking for something like that for ages that doesn't have to be hardwired into a light switch panel

I believe you're referring to this: Aqara Wireless Mini Switch: amzn.to/3V7jJRt. If no, let me know what time stamp you're referring to in the video.
