Kavisaamraat Viswanatha Sathyanarayana’s Veyi Padagalu mega novel was first published in 1935 ..translated as Thousand Hoods, is a mega novel consisting of 1039 pages in the original. In this translation the novel is condensed with appropriate foot notes and introduction. It was translated into Hindi by Sri P.V Narasimha Rao, former Prime Minister of India as Sahasraphan.
This novel is a complex and controversial novel in more sense than one. It is variously described as the last agonizing call of a dying civilization; a commentary on Indian idea of Dharma in relation to religion, rituals, caste equations, man-woman relationships and cultural practices; It can be the story of any village in Andhra of yester years, though the author calls it Subbannapeta. It is said it closely resembles his own village Nandamuru in Krishna District of Andhra Pradesh.

ఏముంది దీనిలో. వంద ఏళ్లు క్రితం అయినా ఏమీ లేకుండా అన్నదానాలా. గుళ్ళో పుజాలా. నాయుడు శాస్త్రి కలిసి మల్లయుద్దం నేర్చుకోవడమే. ఎవరైనా ఎండ వాన లో వ్యవసాయం చేశారా. అంతా మదిలో మెదిలే అనేకమైన ఆలోచనలు. మౌలిక సదుపాయాలు ఏమిలేని రోజుల్లో అవి సమకూర్చిన ఆంగ్లేయుల పాలనలో విపరీత ధోరణులా. కరువు కాటకాలతో ఉన్న దేశాన్ని ఎంతో కొంత మేలు చేసిన వారిని, అజ్ఞానంతో మూర్ఖత్వం తో ఉన్న దేశానికి నాగరికత నేర్పితే ప్రజల్ని దారి మళ్లించడానికి ఇలాంటి రచనలు

Certainly a disastrous attempt, AIR should have stayed away. Shouldn't have floated such bizarre and in no way a tribute to the literary work. Could have found better ways to dramatize and audifyied with poor voices and narration should reflect the readers imagination than just filling with over imitation of the characters.
