while everyone seems to have picked up on the fact that this isn't Sara Ramirez no one seems to have noticed that this isn't Broadway, it's the Royal Variety Performance, which is why they take the second bow, they're bowing to the Queen
It's Hannah Waddingham, not Sara Ramirez. However, can we just take a moment to appreciate Christopher Sieber's absolutely sublime voice, especially when he hits the Bb for "long" and the E for "ends" right at the end of this great number! I also love the chemistry between Chris and Hannah
Once in every show There comes a song like this It starts off soft and low And ends up with a kiss Oh, where is the song that goes like this Where is it? Where, where? A sentimental song If it casts a magic spell They all will hum along We'll over-act like hell Oh, this is the song that goes like this Yes, it is (yes, it is) Yes, it is (yes, it is) Now we can go straight into the middle eight A bridge that is too far for me I'll sing it in your face While we both embrace And then we change the key Now we're into E Hm, that's awfully high for me But everyone can see We should have stayed in D For this is our song that goes like this I'm feeling very proud You're singing far too loud That's the way that this song goes You're standing on my toes Singing our song that goes like this I can't believe there's more It's far too long, I'm sure That's the trouble with this song It goes on and on and on For this is our song that is too long Jesus Christ, goddamn it When we've taken this too long You'll wish that you weren't born Let's stop this damn refrain Before we go insane The song always ends like this
"They all will hum along, we'll over-act like ****" "I'll sing it in your face, while we both embrace" "Now we're into E! *hem* That's awfully high for me. But as everyone can see, we should have stayed in D" BAHAHAHA ooohhhh i'm going to snicker myself to sleep.... XD
The sideways bows are proof that this clip is from the Royal Variety show, and I know Hannah Waddingham was in the original London cast, and the man is an American whose names escapes me, but he was in the Broadway show before coming to London to appear in the original cast, and speaks in the American accent at one point ("You'll wish that you weren't born")
LiberalSherwin, I am 16 years old and I can honestly say I love the theatre ! I would never be embarrassed to attend any performance where performers have put in days, months sometimes years of hard work ! Everyone is welcome to their own opinion, I would just like to put an opinion forward from the other side of your argument. Every show is a success and everyone involved in the shows are all talented individuals. Thank you !
It was written by Monty Python. It couldn't have had a flimsier fourth wall if it had been Deadpool: The Musical. ... someone needs to write a Deadpool musical.
I was actually listening to a song from another musical on a radio show and it was a soft melodramatic ballad and half way through THIS song popped into my head. It was that show's 'song like this'. LMAO. I'll never listen to musicals the same way again.
She is not Sara clearly, because she hits the B natural much easier than Sara. However, she is not the comedian that Sara is, and I prefer Sara in the role even if she has to grab an extra breath before hitting the B.
You've hit on the main thing that makes British comedy (and the viewing audience) a bit different from the American equivalent. Here we have the same book, lyrics and score for two casts, performing for two audiences. A lot of the differences will be national, and a good example is the deeply ironic British style. Anyhoo, I like this version. The song is primarily parody/satire, so playing it straight makes the mocking a bit more sharp-edged.
One of the best days of my life--I can't remember exactly, but probably 2006, when Spamalot wasn't particularly new on Broadway, I saw a matinee performance of it. Then I saw an evening performance of Forbidden Broadway, an off-Broadway show that parodies current Broadway shows. They started doing this song, and for quite a while, I was thinking, "They're doing this song exactly like the original, not a parody." Finally, quite a ways into it, they started in with some different lyrics about how this song had stolen the entire concept of Forbidden Broadway, and they hate the people behind Spamalot for doing that.
@KateEllen2793 well i mean i've seen Hannah Waddingham live in A Little Night Music and i'm fairly sure this is her...she was in the original West End Cast of Spamalot but i guess i could be wrong...i dunno :S
I saw this show a while back when it was touring Britain with Phil Jupitus playing Arthur and Todd Carty playing Patsy. While the Show was fantastic, extremely funny. A local Amateur society in my area also performed it a few years later and if anything performed a better version of it than the professional actors. Morecambe Warblers, you guys were awesome.
this is, i think from the royal variety performance? i see the design of the theater is very much the same plus they bowed twice, one for the audience and the other for the royalty?
I didn't say that the title was misleading, I said that the info was misleading. It says that Sara Ramirez is the one performing in this video when it's not her. I was just pointing that out.
Theatre is not a dying art. The reason it continues to be taught, and will continue to be taught is it's such a real medium. Movies do not show raw emotion, they show practice emotion that has been edited to get what the producer actually wanted. With theatre, each show is a different show. You never get the same performance, which is why people go to see the same play so many different times. Can you get the same thing from a movie? And movie acting is taught in schools. Get your facts right
"Fun" is a relative word. I'm sure there are many actors who find theatrical productions more fun to be in than movies. However, I would have to argue that most actors want to act in movies, not theatre. I'm not trying to argue about which one is more fun. I'm saying that most audiences care way more about movies than they do theatre. Broadway is still successful (because of its history); however, most theatre houses struggle financially. People like movies better. It's just a fact. Accept it.

Agreed, he's absolutely killing it. What a pair of lungs on that guy.
"You'll wish that you weren't born!" Lol I love how he uses a regular voice as opposed to his singing voice XD
it's SO true, though. Almost EVERY musical has this kind of song
I can't help but notice that this song didn't, in fact, end with a kiss...
That boat they're standing on looks like the same one used in The Phantom of the Opera.
That's the point, they're making fun of classic Broadway shows and songs
Or it might even be a reused prop from a production of it.
Did you see this at the Garrick, mate? It was bloody amazing
@@DMCMT01 The Lichfield Garrick?
@@JamesVlogsHomeBeyond yeah mate, the op soc production
I love how hes so angry "Oh COME ON are YOU KIDDING ME?!?"
My goodness: I never get over these guys. Great singing, and so much spoofing. Great geniuses.
Once in every show
There comes a song like this
It starts off soft and low
And ends up with a kiss
Oh, where is the song that goes like this
Where is it?
Where, where?
A sentimental song
If it casts a magic spell
They all will hum along
We'll over-act like hell
Oh, this is the song that goes like this
Yes, it is (yes, it is)
Yes, it is (yes, it is)
Now we can go straight into the middle eight
A bridge that is too far for me
I'll sing it in your face
While we both embrace
And then we change the key
Now we're into E
Hm, that's awfully high for me
But everyone can see
We should have stayed in D
For this is our song that goes like this
I'm feeling very proud
You're singing far too loud
That's the way that this song goes
You're standing on my toes
Singing our song that goes like this
I can't believe there's more
It's far too long, I'm sure
That's the trouble with this song
It goes on and on and on
For this is our song that is too long
Jesus Christ, goddamn it
When we've taken this too long
You'll wish that you weren't born
Let's stop this damn refrain
Before we go insane
The song always ends like this
"You're standing on my toes." I love it!
hannah waddingham is so crazy talented, so versatile!!! and has an amazing belt :D
"They all will hum along, we'll over-act like ****"
"I'll sing it in your face, while we both embrace"
"Now we're into E! *hem* That's awfully high for me.
But as everyone can see, we should have stayed in D"
BAHAHAHA ooohhhh i'm going to snicker myself to sleep.... XD
Carleen6 Hell. You can say it. It’s not a swear word or racist, sexist, homophobic an unkind to the disabled.
I sang this at a church talent show once, so I sang "we'll overreact like he..e..hem" (with a throat clearing sound) and it got a great laugh.

This never gets old! Much love !

Methinks you dont understand Monty Python and their 4th wall usage

You're welcome
I've never been to a musical... but I'd be in for a deadpool musical
I was actually listening to a song from another musical on a radio show and it was a soft melodramatic ballad and half way through THIS song popped into my head. It was that show's 'song like this'. LMAO.

I loved Sara's performance more it was more funny
It's Hannah Waddingham and she was superb when we saw her in this production at the Palace Theatre, London!!!
"Oh, come on! Are you KIDDING me?!?"
That song was hilarious.
This is Chris Sieber and Hannah Waddingham in London. I saw them on Broadway and this is a different stage. They are amazing.

The Mist The boat ...the song.... TOTALLY A SPOOF ON PHANTOM!!!!! od course every thing in this show is a spoof on something....... I love it!!
In the CD he yells "Jesus Christ! Goddamit!" I love this play.
Love this song and the show.
Mike Lang wait the song that goes like this?
I want to see Glee do this song with Sue as the Knight and Rachel as the Diva
It's Hannah Waddingham from the West End version. This was from Spamalot's performance on the Royal Variety.
I saw Spamalot on broadway and it was sooo great! Love it :)
I saw Spamalot live when it was in Tampa,FL and I could hardly breathe because I could not stop laughing
I’ve watched this video about a million times and only now realize that that’s lord Farquaad. An absolute icon
We just sang this in our final Choir Concert for school. Win!
Ironically, I like to listen to this song more than the other songs that go like this...
I swear to fuck I think of this song every time I see a panto or play or musical, because there is indeed 1 song that goes like this
I think of this song every time I hear chasing cars by snow patrol
he certainly is! He is such a great performer!
KID WHAT THIS IS 2024!!???

Brilliant song!
Beautiful!
I’ve only seen a few live performances but I tell you what this one was funny… The comedic timing was something I’ve never seen

I love that we sang this in choir in high school
Just saw the UK tour with Jodie Prenger....her voice is amazing.
I love the voices and how well they mix.
It's Hannah Waddingham and she was superb when we saw her in this production!!!
@KateEllen2793 well i mean i've seen Hannah Waddingham live in A Little Night Music and i'm fairly sure this is her...she was in the original West End Cast of Spamalot but i guess i could be wrong...i dunno :S
So good...
Love this song to bits, my partner and I do it in karaoke all the time!
ive seen this twice now :D and this is my favourite song, i was laughing my head off!
Is this Hannah waddrimgham
Yes.
Who ever said that was Sara, in the words of this Lady of the Lake in the video: “SHAME! SHAME! SHAME!”
This is Hannah Waddingham and its the performance they did at the royal variety performance in 2006 I think :)
great song!
can't believe there was no laughs in this
It's Hannah Waddingham at the Royal Variety Performance in London.

It's never going to be as good as it was with Sara. She OWNED it.
Amazing man.
I saw this show a while back when it was touring Britain with Phil Jupitus playing Arthur and Todd Carty playing Patsy. While the Show was fantastic, extremely funny. This is not sara's performance. This was in London, not broadway. I still LOVE this song.

this is, i think from the royal variety performance? i see the design of the theater is very much the same plus they bowed twice, one for the audience and the other for the royalty?
Do you hate musicals? Do you love musicals? If you answered yes to either of these, I have a song for you.

this was the london cast at the Royal Variety Performance in 2006
Me and my wife were going to go see this musical, but then we said on second thought let's not go to Spamalot; it is a silly play.
I wonder if Eric and John heard Signed Curtain by Matching Mole.

@Mistury75 No, but they eat ham and jam and spam a lot. :D
All nations have sinking songs pushed by TV sang by Pušalotas (push a Lot) singers, this song in particular is awesome.
holy shit is there a dvd for this?
haha i love this song XD it's so funny!
I thought this was the Tonys, but with the different Lady of the Lake, apparently, it was the Royal Variety Performance.
i saw the show in chicago ^^ i fogot how funny it was
Chris Sieber has the manliest voice on the planet.
Sara Ramirez originated the role, but that's not her.
