    • @heinleinreader
      @heinleinreader 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      If we are going to do Sweeney Todd, then I would say "Damn, That's Good" is a quality Choice. I am also surprised that "Whatever Lola Wants" from "Damn Yankees" wasn't mentioned at all. And then there is about half of the songs from "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying". And how about most of the songs from Hair? "White Boys/Black Boys" gets me chuckling every time. There are also a couple from "Chicago" that would qualify as well. The list of better choices is literally endless.

    "Show Off" from Drowsy Chaperone deserves a mention. The magnificent Sutton Foster performed this at the Tony's, putting on a tour de force as a star who wants to give up the stage, singing about not wanting to show off anymore, all the while, showing off every off the wall talent imaginable. Comedic sight gags galore including a spot where Sutton drinks a glass of water while she's still "singing." Just try not to laugh.

    Zanzibar in August 1896: Hey uh, we appreciate the whole protectorate thing but uh, we don't want it anymore-
    The UK: *I will send a fully-armed battalion to remind you of my love*
    Zanzibar, 38 minutes later: ...understandable, have a great day
    Yes, that happened. The Anglo-Zanzibar War was the shortest recorded war in history. I couldn't help but think of that, because you could apply that phrase to so much. That song is a masterpiece, they managed to turn a ruthless king into a memeful likeable character. Props to Jonathan Groff for pulling it off. Also, 5:39 the playwright's name is FRANZ Liebkind, not Hans.

    Avenue Q had puppets made by someone who used to be on the Muppets team, so they were as realistic as possible. Some of the puppeteers also. I saw it when it was in previews: it was so funny I nearly fell out of my seat laughing. Since I was in the last row of the mezzanine, and there were stairs directly in front of me, that would have been dire. (My obit would have been "he died laughing.") The songs weren't just upbeat, they were in the style of Sesame Street songs: I saw it a second time with a friend and he pointed out to me that every song is a counterpoint to a Sesame Street song.
