I live in Atlanta. I am predominant;y of Scottish descent. The images of Glen Coe are of a deep beauty that touches me. Excellent images and thank you!
I Thank You so much excellent images. and to the people of Scotland,I have always considered your Country one of the most beautiful on Earth. I'm from the USA. excellent!😀
Of all the landscape Vblogers you are the one that never fails to teach me. I think each of the formats has merit with the portrait leading your eye to the green walls, the landscape is my least favorite as I don't see the composition going from side to side, and the square is my choice in that it balances the lovely water with the walls best and for me brings my eye into the image with the least effort. Excellent!
Thanks Gale, that's very kind of you to say that. So glad you find the videos helpful. I think you're right each crop showcases the scene in a different but interesting way. It a good point you make about then landscape crop. Thanks again! :)
Thanks so much Martin, this was a stunning couple of locations. I’d love to return to Scotland one day and stay for longer. Appreciate your support mate!
I loved it when people have the courage to show more of themselves, then only the outside picture. Nice to hear about the story of your grandfather. Great images....again.
Andrew, I have previously commented on your work and continue to be impressed. You have a wonderful manner in the way you explain what you are doing. With you it's more about the image and the scenery rather than you - that's a compliment. Your photos are inspirational. Please continue with your great work. Scotland, like a great portion of the UK is a photographers mecca.
Hi Glenn, I'm not entirely sure what to say. Your comments are very kind and I'm so happy you think so highly of the content I create here. I find getting feedback like yours so motivating and it definitely helps drive me to continue making videos, so thank you for spending the time to share your thoughts. The landscape right across Scotland were so impressive, I hope to have the chance to get back there one day!
And my preference is for the landscape orientation for the Gorge and the mountains. Keep up the good work and keep on describing your setup for each shot. Peter
I really liked the square a little bit better, but all three are really nice, hard to discern. And I loved the panorama of the Mountainside. Lovely subtlety of color in both :)
Special day indeed Andrew. Beautiful photos. It seems you enjoyed it thoroughly, I could hear the enthusiasm in your voice. The drone footage is awesome. Must have been amazing to view your ancestral home!!!
As someone just starting up with photography (at the tender age of 50) I find your videos really helpful, they give ideas on composition and the camera settings. Keep up the good work mate
Hello Andrew. This is the kind of video that i like to see. Loved the explanations, and the fact that we're able to "join you" in that photography adventure. Keep them coming, please.
Great job Andrew. Thank you for all the effort you go to in producing these videos. Very inspiring and helpful. I love the square image. Reflects that of a window which gives more depth to scene.
I there are very few images I like in portrait, but for some reason I love it for the gorge. The extreme ratio shows off why gorges are gorgeous! It demands attention in that form. Also, I like to imagine the possibilities for display; it will stand out among other images in this portrait orientation.
Hello Andrew. My fiancé and I are traveling to Scotland in October (flying into Glasgow). You've given us another fantastic site to photograph! Thank you for a lovely, informative tutorial.
Fantastic, hope you have a wonderful trip. I believe this location is not known by everyone so if you were to go mid week you might have to place to yourself...good luck!
I love the portrait shot Andrew. I can imagine this 6-8 feet high on a wall leading you into the canyon....I also have a Scottish heritage and it is on my bucket list to travel Scotland and Ireland some day. Love you work.
Andrew I love the fact that you have been able to go back to where your grandfather once walked the same ground, fantastic. I loved your images of Finnich Glen in particular the very first one you showed at 4:13, love your work mate!
Seems like a very peaceful location & the birthplace of your grandfather would make this a special visit for you. I think the square format was the winner, however the landscape drew me in nicely as well... I have indeed subscribed to your vlog as I really appreciate your slow, thoughtful approach in composing the image & clearly explaining the reason behind using various filters, camera settings, etc. Thank you, Bill Farr...
Thanks Bill, it was a special visit and a great time. I also like the balance of the square crop. Thank you for subscribing mate, I appreciate the support! :)
I really enjoy your videos, and it's nice that you could visit your grandfather's homeland. My family spent 21 days touring the UK in mid 80's (working for US Army). 5 of those days were spent in Scotland. Really enjoyed Edinburgh.
Thanks for that Tom, My visit to Scotland if only brief was special. Thanks also for sharing your story of Scotland. It’s a country I’d definitely want to return to one day!
Andrew beautiful footage from Scotland and the Glencoe image are great. Also moving to hear a bit of your family history lovely background for this session. Cheers Peter
Hi Andrew. I love the personal family connection with Scotland you shared in this one. Great story. I really can't decide b/t the 3 formats from the gorge. The portrait really shows the height of the walls whereas the other two emphasize more of the beautiful green on the walls. I think I prefer 1:1 over the landscape, but you can't go wrong with any of the three. All would depend on the dimensions of the space in which you wanted to hang your print! I love this UK trip and am quite jealous of your adventures. Someday...
Thanks mate, so glad you enjoy this one. Your right, all three crops showcase the scene is different ways. I like that about some images. The space in which you hang the print would impact which one you go with greatly. I'm very lucky to have had the opportunity to goto the UK, hopefully I'll get the chance to travel more! :)
Another really enjoyable video Andrew and beautiful images. I prefer the landscape format as I love the rock formation. So glad you had a good time visiting our Scottish countryside, definitely some of the most stunning scenery in the world! All the best from the Scottish Highlands. :)
Ahh, Scotland, one of the best places i have travelled to. So many places to shoot. Can't wait to get back over there again next year. Oh nice images mate.
I think the square format is best. Oh, I enjoyed hearing about grandfather and your interest in in him. My roots go deep in England and Scotland, early 1600's, even though I am an American. I always enjoy seeing where you take us on your video photo treks it's an excellent way for me to escape for a few minutes, thank you. Also, knowing your location setup and camera settings are informative. The one thing we don't lack here in Idaho are mountains and rivers, however, we can't compete with the greenery in your treks it's fantastic.
Lovely images. I like the cropped portrait the best as it really plays up the vertical walls. All three have their value. I've been to Glasgow and Glencoe. Glad to hear that you were able to come home to your roots as well. I LOVE that mountain panorama.
Likewise my grandfather emigrated from Loch Fyne area to NZ about the same time as yours. Had my first visit to Glencoe last Sept. And was blown away by its grandeur. Liked your landscape shots, captured the grandeur the best IMO.
Thanks very much Alistar for your kind comments and sharing your story, I can't believe your stories are so similar. I was so impressed with the landscape Scotland had to offer!
We had a great time. I spent about 2 hours at the bottom of Finnich Glen, and got lots of keepers. It was cloudy and slightly rainy almost the entire time we were down there. However, the sun just started to come out as I was gearing up to leave, and I had to snap a shot of a few sun rays coming down onto the Devil's Pulpit. I can't wait to go back!
Excellent video Andrew, especially as you inject emotion into it. You can see that being here in Scotland meant something to you. I'm presuming your on holiday here and I hope you've enjoyed it. If you have time or you return in the future I can highly recommend the lowland half of Scotland. You'll find whether it's over towards Dumfries and Galloway or across the Scottish Borders you are totally spoiled for choice, there's castles, lochs, hills, wide rivers and forest. I would also highly recommend the Clyde Valley area which you drove through at the start of your video. Lanark has some of lowland Scotland's best waterfalls and some lovely ruins. Anyway, enjoy the holiday and keep up the excellent vids 👍
Thanks Paul, I appreciate you letting me know your feedback mate, it certainly was a special day. I wish I had more time to explore but I had to keep moving. I was over in the UK on a cricket tour but I couldn't pass up the opportunity to do some landscape photography while I was over there. Thanks for those suggestions, it looks like I might have to organise a return visit.
Great video, Andrew. Scotland is a beautiful place. I love the square image the best and how the polarizer makes the greens pop. I learn a great deal from watching your videos. Glad I found your channel and check every day for new content.
Thanks very much Ronald, the polariser would have to be the most important filter I use in my opinion. I'm so glad you're enjoying the videos I create. I try and upload weekly as consistently as possible but sometime just get too busy. If you click the 'bell' icon when you subscribe you'll be given a handy notification when I upload new videos. Thanks again for your support mate!
Such a magical and beautiful location. Awesome images as usual. I liked them all, however, I do have a soft spot for square images and their simplicity. I think that goes back to the days when I shot medium format film. Thank you for sharing.
Fantastic Andrew and such a fitting epitaph to your grandfather. I wasn't aware you were coming to Scotland which is s pity cos I would have loved to have met you. I will be going up to Glen Coe when the snow hits, thanks for the inspiration mate.
Thank you for what you do; I appreciate it. I enjoy watching your channel and seeing your beautiful pictures ☺. Congrats again on 10K subscribers, good for you! Also, I equally loved all 3, they each have a different feel that I like.
A great video, Scotland and especially the western isles have a special place in my heart & view finder I have photographed there many times myself and everytime the light & weather gives something unique. Nice photos you made.
Excellent video Andrew, the square crop was fantastic. I love seeing the influence Tom's videos have on your vlogging techniques, loving seeing your trip to the UK!
Love your photos Andrew, love watching your videos! I was in Glencoe 2 years ago whilst visiting my daughter in Edinburgh and I agree, the countryside is so unque. Mountains just rise up out of the plains and their peaks are just about in the clouds. How I would have loved to drive myself and explore but I was on a coach tour to Loch Ness.
Thank you so much Vivien, that's very kind of you! The landscapes in Scotland were so impressive. I wish I had more time to explore. I'll just have to organise another trip back there someday! :)
What a great way to return to your roots. The scenery is indeed spectacular and you managed to capture fantastic photos and great video footage. I like the landscape photo the best but not by that much to the square... Cheers!
I like the landscape photo because it makes me feel the waterfall.
I see what you're saying Melissa, great point. I like the landscape crop also! :)
I live in Atlanta. I am predominant;y of Scottish descent. The images of Glen Coe are of a deep beauty that touches me. Excellent images and thank you!
Thank you Sean for your comments. You clearly have a connection with Scotland, I'm glad the video shared more of this special land with you.
I prefer the landscape format because it gives the viewer a perspective of how grand the gorge is. It provides the fullest view.
Landscape. Nice composition. Thanks for sharing
Thanks so much for your feedback! :)
I like the portrait and the music on the background
Cheers for that! 👍
I Thank You so much excellent images. and to the people of Scotland,I have always considered your Country one of the most beautiful on Earth. I'm from the USA. excellent!😀
Wonderful stuff.... Landscape shot was my winner
Thank you Mike, appreciate your comment mate!
Exquisite places. Great images. Great journey.
Thank you Joao!
I liked the landscape the best. It just gave me the feeling that I was there in the Glen.
Thanks for sharing John, I like the landscape crop for similar reasons!
Landscape. Great video.
Thanks for that!

Stunning captures of this gorgeous location. Love all your captures, especially the square one. Thank you for sharing!

Great images....again.
wow landscape was incredible!
Thanks so much Victor!

As a Scottish photographer, I loved this video! Thanks
Thanks, I'm so pleased you enjoyed this one!
Great shots - Love the Dedication
Thanks Eltin! 👍
And my preference is for the landscape orientation for the Gorge and the mountains.
Keep up the good work and keep on describing your setup for each shot.
Peter
I think the square was one of my favourites, thanks Peter!
Great video, and that first shot, the more intimate one... ohh amazing
Thank you very much! :)
I really liked the square a little bit better, but all three are really nice, hard to discern. And I loved the panorama of the Mountainside. Lovely subtlety of color in both :)
Thank you Irene, I really appreciate you sharing your thoughts. I think the square crop has a nice balance about it!
Special day indeed Andrew. Beautiful photos. It seems you enjoyed it thoroughly, I could hear the enthusiasm in your voice. The drone footage is awesome. Must have been amazing to view your ancestral home!!!

Thank you Trent, I like the mood this crop gives the image!
As a Scotsman, I found that an incredibly moving video Andrew, you did Glencoe proud.
Wonderful!! I like the Landscape version .. gives you a grand view and also the colors popped more.
I actually did a little extra enhancement on the landscape version just to get the walls to pop a little more...nice pick up! :)
Excellent Andrew. I live 30 minutes from Killearn. Great Vlog.
Thanks mate! I'm very jealous, you live in an amazing part of the world Jamie :)
Great shots, I reckon the portrait gorge shot is the winner, really emphasises the height and depth.
That's a good point you make about the portrait crop, thanks for that!
As someone just starting up with photography (at the tender age of 50) I find your videos really helpful, they give ideas on composition and the camera settings. Keep up the good work mate
I think that's the perfect time the start. So glad you're finding the videos helpful. Enjoy your photography journey, cheer mate!
I prefer the portrait crop. Really emphasizes the height and narrowness of the canyon. Great pic!
Thanks for sharing that Aaron, I see your point as the sides of the crop accentuate canyon walls! :)
Absolutely stunning video and photographs, well done.
Thanks very much for sharing your feedback Brian!
Hello Andrew. This is the kind of video that i like to see. Loved the explanations, and the fact that we're able to "join you" in that photography adventure. Keep them coming, please.
Thanks Mario, This is exactly what I'm aiming to create here so I'm so glad you enjoyed it, thanks for your feedback!
Great job Andrew. Thank you for all the effort you go to in producing these videos. Very inspiring and helpful. I love the square image. Reflects that of a window which gives more depth to scene.
Thanks for that Simon, I like your reasoning behind selecting the square crop, cheers! :)

I appreciate your comment, I think you make some good points, thank you! :)

Your final shot of the mountain is absolutely stunning! Bracketing did the trick. Your effort to get that shot sure paid off!!!
Thanks once again Cathryn, I liked the detail I was able to capture with the bracketed image!

Portrait... The lines of the gorge walls go great along side a portrait crop. ;-)
I really liked the square crop best. Beautiful composition!

Thank you John, it just reflects the magic that Scotland had to offer. I can see why you lean towards the 1x1 crop, cheers mate!
Hello Andrew, Square and Landscape are my choices. BTW....always impressive work.

Hi, what a great and interesting video. I like the portrait version, so you can see the walls and the depths of the cave.
Thank you for what you do; I appreciate it. I enjoy watching your channel and seeing your beautiful pictures ☺. Congrats again on 10K subscribers, good for you! Also, I equally loved all 3, they each have a different feel that I like.
Thanks very much for your kind comments, I appreciate your support. I think you're right all three crops are different but interesting to look at! :)
Andrew Marr, yes all 3 are interesting and beautiful ☺. Also, the time you take to explain your compositions is helpful. Thank you again!
A great video, Scotland and especially the western isles have a special place in my heart & view finder I have photographed there many times myself and everytime the light & weather gives something unique. Nice photos you made.

Thanks Philippe, Scotland was amazing, I hope to go back there one day!
