In middle school, my daughter was assigned to write a letter to a famous person and try to get something written back to her. She wrote Amy and Amy sent back a really gross bit of verbiage on a headshot of hers and the school called us and said that we had to come and pick it up and sign something understanding what we were picking up. I wish I could remember what it said but it was pretty disgusting and we loved it.
That's too funny!! I think my daughter would very likely pick David Sedaris. She's been reading him since 4th grade, and I believe it was 5th when her school called to ask if I was aware she was reading a book called 'Naked' and this principal had skimmed a bit, didn't think it was appropriate to bring to school. This was Alabama, where the average ADULT can't read beyond 6th grade level, but hey at least they don't read filth, right? 😆😂🤣
Her brother David said: "Amy lives in the moment and I don't live there.'' And I thought that was as accurate a description of a writer as ever there was.
This is what "killing" looks like in late night comedy. Wow! She was landing punchlines every five seconds. Like a master class in being a late night guest.
@@thelettermanpodcast LOL! Johnny Carson hasn't talked about Letterman being off the air yet, until he does I feel like this is just an unconfirmed rumor
There is nothing more enjoyable than watching Dave with someone who genuinely makes him laugh. I know there are many, but Chris E, Norm and Amy always delivered.
Using "Five drink minimum" as the measure of how overweight the Lesbians are at the new hated bar that's taking over her favorite chocolate store. Perfect Amy.
In a just world, Sedaris would be bigger than Sandler. You don't see too many people make Dave genuinely laugh like that. He was actually rolling the conversation back to punchlines she'd already moved on from.
To be fair to Adam, he makes terrible movies, but his talk show appearances are usually quite entertaining. He is a smart and interesting guy. Who makes terrible movies.
Fwiw, I met her at an event, and she was a bit standoffish, kinda guarded. So, it seems like she has to ramp up to the persona you see here, or needs a spotlight to focus her energy. You've probably met someone just like her, just need to catch her at the right time.
@@tvtitlechampion3238 I passed by her on the street in NYC once, and, as she passed, certainly not noticing me, I spun and went "Amy Sedaris!" She turned, and I put out my hand to shake hers and told her I really love her work. She only sort of looked at me, and I wasn't sure if it was b/c she was shy or was afraid I'd start rambling in her general direction (sometimes stars avoid eye contact b/c making eye contact invites conversation, and if they're not at an event, they usually don't want that), she gave me a very sweet thank you, and she walked off...and I 100% regret not asking her out to go to dinner or something. A friend of mine, who knows I've a crush on her, was also angry at me. I mean, I DID get to go out w/The Late Show's Hula Hoop Girl, so why not Amy?!
Amy is a diabolically funny storyteller. You see her pop up in lots of movies and I’m always waiting to see her slip in one of her little quirks, like the off sync eyeblinking in Chef
I never realized what an absolute comedic genius she is! I was very fond of strangers with Candy, I thought it was delightfully strange and awkward, and I love to be in that place when watching awkward comedy. But her quick wit, and her animated presents is just a fantastic package! I would love to be her imaginary boyfriend!❤️
She's difficult to get in touch with. You'd have to go through her manager, or find someone who's worked with her on the socials, b/c she's got no internet presence herself. Good luck!!
Dave had a lot of memorable repeat guests over the years, Teri Garr, Brother Theodore, Leno, Norm, etc... But the comedic chemistry between him and Amy was as good as it gets. I think if someone had told Dave he could only have Amy as a guest every night, he might still be doing the show.
I love her and wonder about her "real" personality because whenever she's on TV she is definitely ON. It's all hyper, nervous energy which is fun but also a bit uncomfortable at times.
Yes, but I think it's genuine. If you ever read her brother's books about his family, they are all characters. A lot of trauma in their family but at least two of them turned out to be really funny.

How about Amy narrating a GTOger video!
Agreed. Always funny, bit bizarre, good report with Dave.
You haven't really watched his show much have you.
Could not agree more.
Is this Amy writing this? It's something she'd say and do. Lmao
I never saw Dave laugh as hard as he does with Amy. He's absolutely delighted as are we.
Probably why he gave her money to make her movie.
I think Norm Macdonald might be the only other person to make Dave laugh like that.
“bigger than a tumor” almost made him fall out of his chair.
Bonnie Hunt made him laugh a lot too.
He laughed with abandon at Chris Farley too.

My condolences to Amy on the death of her imaginary boyfriend. I’ve lost many close imaginary friends myself, so I sympathize.
All my friends laughed at me when I told them about my new girlfriend and they said she was imaginary. Hah jokes on them, they’re imaginary too!
Her dermatologist, Dr. Colbert. - Stephen Colbert reference. Formerly of Strangers with Candy!
No, Stephen Colbert's brother is a dermatologist
