Maggie Gyllenhaal is one of the most underrated artist in the industry working today. She's a fantastic actress, I enjoyed many of her movies she's in. The fact that she branch out her career in becoming a writer and director and her debut so far have been doing great, i'm so proud of her. I hope people will recognise Maggie's talent a lot more just like her brother, Jake

Well I believe the fact that too many people don’t realize the true film industry lies with indies - blockbusters
Blah - The real talent is always with actresses and actors like the Gyllenhaal‘s ( well Maggie ) in Independent film 🎥 ppl miss SOOO many great movies, when they don’t realize this

There is something about this movie that sticks with you. I found myself thinking about it days later even tho it wasn't necessarily the type of movie I would normally like. Casting is superb even down to small roles like Callie and young Leda. It really is something special.

The Lost Daughter was fantastic, dare should I say a masterpiece. One of my favourite movies of the 2021, as a feature directorial debut for Maggie, it's a phenomenal debut for her. I'm hoping that this movie could get more recognition at award shows considering how tough the competition is for now. She truly deserved that Golden Osella Award for Best Screenplay at the Venice Film Festival

She learned theremin for a movie called Frank, where she played a surly art-punk musician. It's a wonderful film, hilarious and heartbreaking, well worth tracking down. And I think that The Lost Daughter is the best movie of awards season. It's the only film that seems the least bit dangerous.

  • @apolloscrow3686

She is brilliant and so is her new film. It showcases the ugly side of motherhood and the complicated desires of a multi-faceted woman, in a way that we rarely get to see on screen. Revolutionary, and such a confident debut.
Inevitably, the TH-cam comments here will be plagued by miserable sexist trolls who try to tear her down along with her work. I don’t know why we are 16 years into the existence of this platform and there is still such spotty, ineffectual moderation. It’s like we just gave up on the idea of making these spaces civil and constructive and pleasant, gave up on holding people accountable for shitty behaviors. Anyway that’s a different topic.
I’m really happy for Gyllenhaal that she has been able to explore this side of her art and achieve something really compelling and noteworthy. Looking forward to much more from her behind the camera.

The central character was a crappy wife and mother, stole a little girl's doll, didn't tell the mother of the little girl she had stolen it until a bunch of time had past and anguish had been felt and endured by the little girl and her family. She was a complete sh!thead and deserved the hairpin to her gut.

    5:04 Shark
To see a shark in your dream indicates feelings of anger, hostility, and fierceness. You are undergoing a long and difficult emotional period and may be an emotional threat to yourself or to others. Perhaps you are struggling with your individuality and independence, especially in some aspect of your relationship. Alternatively, a shark represents a person in your life who is greedy and unscrupulous. This person goes after what he or she wants with no regards to the well-being and sensitivity of others. The shark may also be an aspect of your own personality with these qualities.
In particular, if you see a shark in shallow waters, then it means that you are emotionally vulnerable. You are trying to suppress your anger, but it is just too much to keep in.

I love Maggie but I honestly didn’t enjoy the film. It was kinda horrible.
And it left me with a lot of questions and maybe someone can give some insight. like why was Dakota family always starring at Olivia character acting like they knew she had the doll? Or why was even the landlord acting like he wanted have something or hanging around Olivia but when Olivia tried he was like huh.
And why was the doll so important to the little girl so much to the point that it made the whole family frantic and them putting posters up and it seemed like everyone knew about it. I have a daughter and that doesn’t seem realistic to me.
I get Olivia character and she was the selfish mom. But I just can’t understand the other characters.

The Lost Daughter was VERY boring. It was well-acted but, to me, it was also utterly pointless...and why was Ed Harris even in it? Hardly any screen time. I am perfectly fine with films that have little or no, "action" but, throughout the film, I was repeatedly asking myself, "What's the point?". Completely forgettable. In fact, what was I just writing about??? Oh, and the central character...what a sh!thead! A crappy wife and mother stealing a little girl's doll and not saying anything until a bunch of time had passed and everything had become SO much more difficult for her and her family. Glad she took a hairpin to the gut...

Beautiful, well acted, very incomplete plot and film.
Clearly needed audience feedback before releasing.
Being praised heavily without honest criticism on some very core lacking areas of story telling.
She needs outside help to give the themes an over arching plot and point so there's a pay off to watching.
Poorly developed story with irredeemable characters.
She can write dialog but not a complete story which isn't acceptable considering this was a successful book with the bones of a story arch already done.
I love Maggie as an artist but people are pandering to her without honest critiquing.
Also, he called this a movie of the book with the same name. He should have named the author, she should have corrected him.
This is the authors story and Maggie told an incomplete version of that story, would had nothing without the author.
I do want to watch more from her as she gains more experience.
The story being so incomplete should never have gotten to the filming stage, it needed a lot of work and experienced oversight.
Once filming started, it was beautiful. I love a slow film that establishes a tone and characters. And these actors did that amazingly well, but a slow burn film should still be a fully fleshed out complete story.

Yes people are pandering. It had a general theme without the movie have a well fleshed out plot.
It being a book, a complete plot was already established.
It was a very incomplete story that lacked obvious elements that anyone else would have to had corrected before getting the green light. Most likely anyone else would have been told they lack a core understanding of story telling and been denied.
It was beautiful to watch, beautifully acted but just because you can write dialog doesn't mean you can write a story or film.
Felt like no pay off after two hours, felt like they edited out key parts of the story. While all characters ended up irredeemable and as that bad mother, bad character type she describes in this interview. Besides most people weren't sure if she was delirious at the end making it even more ineffective.
All of those characters could have died and many would have said good riddance which takes away from people relating to the difficulty faced by mothers because we're just seeing awful people do awful things.
