How to automate Axe Fx/Kemper/Helix patches in Reaper (most efficient way)

- This is the most efficient way I've found to automate my Axe Fx live. NO MORE TAP DANCING! One thing I forgot to mention was that I like to add the marks for the switches slightly before I want them to switch to compensate for a slight delay when the axe fx has to switch amp models. If it has a very similar chain between switches (i.e. just adding delay or rotary etc) it will have virtually no lag.

Thanks for this. We use a rack mount interface with 5 separate backing tracks, and just added Kempers to the rack, so we figured we'd try to get the effects changes to work since we're using a DAW on stage anyway.
And our drummer is also named Zach, so I'm sure that helps too!
Bumbled upon this, super useful. Would love to see a more detailed vid showing how you put your sets together in reaper and maybe a bit more on how to set up a band with several guitars with their patch changes etc. Good stuff.
Ive been thinking about making a more detailed vid on how i set up backing tracks in reaper
I will let you know when i upload it and respond to this comment or you can subscribe, either way.
Listened to your band. You guys are really good. Cosmic Nights is awesome.
Thank you! If you want to hear the EP with a phenomenal singer, check out Galaxia - Life is a Weird Place. It's on Spotify
Awesome video man! And your band sounds great! Where can I listen to more?
thanks! Yes here is a link to the most recent EP. If you're a fan of Devin Townsend/Sybreed/Pendulum/Scandroid/Industrial Metal-ish soundtrackish stuff, you might enjoy

Very useful video! Do you know a way to change scenes as well as patch changes?
02:17 Limp Bizkit - Break Stuff :D
would this work with Neural DSP plugins too?
Have you ever shared the presets you use for your band? They are sweet sounding.
I have not but I definitely could no. What's your email?
@@bjornlakenstrazen2186 I sent you an email to your youtube one. Thank you!!
we have a kemper and helix. how does the midi wiring go for that? is this where midi thru comes in?
Are you wanting to control 2 devices from one midi output interface?
Does it also work via the USB, or is it neccessary to go MIDI OUT interface to MIDI IN axefx?
Yes it will work the same with USB. You just need to select your device as the MIDI device in reaper
Are the midi files easy to export if I wanted to use an external device called m live b beat to play the backing tracks and midi file ?
@@Stewbert_72 yes midi files export very easily. Double click the midi file and hit export
@@bjornlakenstrazen2186this failed miserably in studio one and I since found out studio one doesn’t allow the midi data to export
@@Stewbert_72 ahh darn that sucks. I'm not familiar enough with studio one to help! Good luck
@@bjornlakenstrazen2186it’s ok I’m going to try reaper or something that has a free trial like Cubase or Ableton . Very frustrating when studio one otherwise is a superb product .
I did feedback to them using a support ticket so hopefully they fix it at some point.
Question : How to automate helix? Helix uses MIDI CC along with MIDI PC. How are CC sent to helix?
It works exactly like this video. Should be exactly the same
@@bjornlakenstrazen2186 thank you. I only saw MIDI PC events sent.
Dont know if you are still active on this page. I tried to do this. but when i move the songs around. My midi changes and gets the loop arrows and stretches and gets all messed up. Wish i could photo comment on youtube to show you what i mean. Im having a real issue with this.
Hey man, you need to right click the midi file and go to item properties. Select item timebase > change the drop down options to "Time"
@@bjornlakenstrazen2186 Sweet im glad you replied. lol i did exactly what you said in the video. its not working. Can i email you with the video so i can show you what its doing?
Edit. Ok it only seems to be messing up with one midi item. Which is weird
@@ibanezguitars360 yes please do!
My email is ftbbam2@gmail.com
@@bjornlakenstrazen2186 here. I’m gonna upload a video to Dropbox and put the link here
@@bjornlakenstrazen2186 just emailed you!
