  • In this video, I show you how to automate patch changes on the FM9, Axe FX III or FM3. This covers preset, scene and bank changes via MID over USBI. Please let me know if you have any questions!

    hi man, I'm allready in problems with step one... Logic pro doest see the axe fx fm3 as a midi device. I can only see the option "logic pro virtual out". Im connected woth an usb to midi cable van mac book to fm3

    No matter what I do, I cannot get this to work. I followed it perfectly, even slowed it down and watched it. When my FM9 gets to the second midi region, it does not change scenes at all (when performing a song in logic). IF, I go into the midi region settings (in the List editor) and move the value up and down, it DOES change scenes. But it does not change scenes when I am actually playing through a song in Logic, or scrubbing the playhead back and forth across midi regions.
    Super frustrating! I don't know what I am missing.

      @@DavidMacVicar Man, by chance did you ever get this working? Would love to help, just need to be able to see your events area in Logic to make sure everything is set up correctly. Let me know!

    Thank you so much for this video, I got it working like a charm! Do you know how I might be able to automate wah & whammy with the FM9/EV-1 pedal? I've been searching everywhere and I can't find any tutorials with this particular setup (FM9 into Logic Pro).

    • @gabriel_levi

      Can you clarify what you mean by automating with EV-1 pedal? I guess my confusion is that automation doesn’t require any foot control. Do you just mean assign the wah/whammy to the EV-1? Let me know, would love to help out!

      I play in a band, and I’d like to be able to control the motion of the pedal via midi, so all the wah and whammy parts of our songs are completely automated. This would allow me to have my pedalboard on the side of the stage and I wouldn’t have to touch anything (except maybe the tuner). I got some responses about this on the fractal forum but none of the suggestions I got actually worked.

      This is something I'm going to have to investigate, it has me curious. My first thought is possibly using an LFO to program the exact motions you want, but I'm going to have to dig a bit deeper. Auto-wah would be the simplest method for now, but I know that's less expressive. I'll get back to you on this!@@markwaldron7string

      FOUND YOUR SOLUTION! Go check out my buddy Cooper Carters video on this entitled "Put Your Wah on Playback AND Keep Your Foot Control! | Fractal Friday with Cooper Carter #27" This is exactly what you're looking for. Let me know if this helps!@@markwaldron7string

      @@gabriel_levi thank you, that one has gotten me closer but I’m still having issues because of the midi track I’m using. On the fractal forum they said you need to have the expression parts on a separate midi track from the track that’s automating preset and scene changes. To do this, you have to assign a separate CC# to the expression pedal track. The problem is that Logic won’t do it: it’s always reverting the expression track back to CC34 which I’m using to change scenes/presets. So I’ve hit a brick wall it seems.

    Having a problem on the FM3 in logic. I have program changes set to on and scene select is on 34. When I add a new track within logic and select external midi, there is no FM3 under MIDI Destination. I’m only seeing Off 1 - 16 and Logic Pro Virtual Out 1 - 16 as choices. FM3 is connected and I turned off FM3 edit like you mentioned in another comment. Any ideas? Thanks for the video.

      Hey man! Are you trying to do this over USB? If so, the FM3 does not have MIDI over USB. Please let me know what your setup is like and I can help you further. Thanks!

      Good to know! I was going crazy trying to figure it out late last night and for a few hours today haha. I’m plugging my guitar straight into the fm3 and connecting the fm3 to a MacBook via USB. Monitoring through headphones out of the fm3 for now. Interested in learning about running a live show with automated scene changes for when the time comes. I do have plans to go with the AXE FX3 in time. As for the fm3, is there simply a usb-c to midi type of cable that could accomplish the same thing you’re able to do here in this video?

      All you need is a MIDI to USB interface. There are a bunch of options but a pretty popular one is the Roland UM-ONE mk2 USB MIDI Interface. Let me know if this works out for ya!@@LifeSoDetermined

    Very nice video. I'm wondering, the program change only seems to go to a value of 127, meaning I can't automate it to preset 200 for example. Do you have any idea about this?

    • @gabriel_levi
      @gabriel_levi  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I address this in the video! You have to switch banks.

    Is there some additional setup procedures in Logic or perhaps inside the Fractal? I cannot get this to work at all. I set everything that you showed, but i dont get any changes.

    • @gabriel_levi
      @gabriel_levi  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey man, I'm sorry this isn't working out for you. Inside the Fractal, go to Setup, MIDI/Remote, and on the first page you should see Program Change. Make sure this is set to "On". While still in the MIDI/Remote menu, page over to the last page called "Other" and make sure Scene Select is set to CC# 34. Occasional bug: If you have the Axe/FM9 editor open, sometimes Program Changes won't trigger properly. I hope this helps!
