Design of Dog Legged Staircase | How to design staircase as per IS Code

  • Design of Dog Legged Staircase has been shown step by step procedure, initially rise and tread has been suitably assumed along with width of the staircase, than calculation of height of each flight, number of risers required and also number of treads along with space occupied by treads has been shown in detail, width of landing and passage space has been calculated with effective span of flight. Thickness of waist slab is assumed in the range 40mm to 50mm per meter span and with the thickness dead weight of slab has been calculated along with dead weight of steps. Total load along with floor finish has been shown. Ultimate moment has been calculated with respect to ultimate load and check for depth of waist slab also verified for the calculated ultimate moment. Finally the area of reinforcement is found out as main bars and distribution bars, also, detailing of staircase is shown at the end of the design problem.

      Most of the text books consider 2x landings for calculating effective span.
