Ordered a old DPMS barrel labeled as a M-4 barrel. I wish I knew, I would have saved money and picked up a del-ton but I’m glad you made this video. My FSB has 1 on it and no F mark. I found a old DPMS email saying it’s the same as F mark but it’s not. Thank you!
Thanks for the tip about the replacement front sight post. Picking up a MATECH rear sight for my Windham MPC, and didn't really feel like replacing the front sight base. Much easier. Totally missed it when looking through the catalog. $4.95.
I have the first year s&w put out the m&p 15. I think they were in conjunction with stagg still? Anyhow it came with F marked A2 fixed front, removable carry handle, and a very robust back up iron. Using the carry rear sight worked great but took it off. The back up iron I put on and ran great as well. Still have it to this day a long with vortex strikefire ii and running strong. The sports idk...Lol.
Outstanding video. Here's the bottom-line: F front sight with commercial rear detachable carry handle sight bottomed to 6/3 for initial 300 meter zeroing, the M16-A4 will shoot about 8 MOA low when front post flange is flush with deck of front sight base. To correct, the front sight will need to be turned clockwise about 8 clicks. Not good, since front sight post becomes a stub, making center of mass holds difficult; and, adjustment of rear sight will of course preclude the sights from having a BDC function. Now, an A2 front sight base and mil spec rear carry handle bottomed out to 6/3 will shoot about 8 MOA high when front post flange is flush with deck of front sight base thus the front sight. This requires the front sight post to be turned 2 full revs counter clockwise which causes the front sight post to be too loose for good shooting. Note that bushmaster, DPMS, and Windham mil the detachable rear sight to work with the taller A2 front sight base, which they use to get out of paying royalties to the patent holder of the F front sight base. The problem with these rifles is when a BUIS is installed, they're all mil spec and thus cause need for the front sight to be raised or a taller post to be installed.
The great Rock intro and background music fits well with your and my style M-16/AR-15 rifles. It should come at no supprize I am a middle aged guy who has been at this over 40 years. I don't like the current AR platform market and trends. Both Eugene M. Stoner and R. Lee Ermey would kick their asses! This is how a M-16/AR-15 should look.....USGI all the way! Great video and taste in weaponry Mr. John
The M16 I carried in Afghanistan and Iraq was United States Government Issue (that's USGI, in case you can't follow an abbreviation for that many letters) with a vertical grip, a PEQ-15, and a 4x RCO, and that was back in 2006-10...

Building one just like your second one. However I believe since the rear sight is adjustable you could just raise it to get a zero, correct? Then adjust the rear sight ring to get it where you want it.
Great, no B.S. video. And the acme of the idea "Experience is the best teacher - other people's - don't waste time trying to figure out what others have already figured out if you can just learn it from them."
Mosca That would definitely be the best answer but I don't actually own both uppers. I built the Windham/flattop for a buddy out of parts he owned and I wasn't going to swap his windham barrel for my DSA. They both turned out to be excellent shooters though! Thanks for watching and commenting!
My late model Colt upper does not have F mark but measured 1.98, turned out Colt has removed the F stamp from machining process since they no longer manufacture the carry handle.
I figured this out a while back and I'm surprised that companies still put front sights on flat top receivers without the F marked front sights, . That's seems totally stupid and non mil spec. Try and find a removable rear sight that will go low enough and you will be looking for quite a while. I bought a Bushmaster with a flat top receiver that had the non F marked front sight and the rear removable sight that came with it wouldn't even sight in. I had to buy a .040 over size front sight to make it work. To top it off the bushy rear right was a piece of crap. Such sloppy workmanship that I finally threw it away and replaced it with a military surplus colt sight. I don't know who is building Bushys now but their quality of the rear sight sucks. i think Remington took them over but I'm not sure.
@@coiw2280 Mine is marked with bushmaster markings on the barrel and was ordered as a bushmaster. Other than the barrel markings there is no indication of who made it.
@@coiw2280 I think Wyndham took over the plant when Bushy was sold out to Remington. Remington just purchased the name Bushmaster and left everything and everyone behind for Wyndham to produce what they wanted under a different name. I heard Wyndham is a top notch quality firearm and have no reason to think otherwise. Bushmaster was a great company before Remington took it over. I don't know how many of the bushy employees they hired to oversee the transfer of ownership but Remington has a reputation of firing everyone and moving it all somewhere else. In all fairness most of the gun is fine and only the rear sight was crappy quality.
On the 727 upper there is another solution. Put the elevation drum on 300M (3/8) use a 1/16 hex key and back out the elevation drum indexing set screw located under the front sight apetures. Once the indexing drum can move independently from the elevating drum, raise the rear sight .040" and tighten the arrangement back together.
@Eric M The rear sight isn't going to be flat with the receiver anymore, just very slightly but it will be in line with the front sight and you can still adjust to the 800M setting.
First off the articles are not the Bill of rights, maybe you can represent our country with more prestige by not being absolutely incorrectly displaying the SECOND AMENDMENT as Article II, which is way before the Amendments with the bill of rights
Excellent video: short, sweet, to the point. THANK YOU!
I appreciate you going into detail & keeping it short and sweet.
Without being long-winded and unnecessary keep up the good work ..

No problem glad I could be helpful.
Thanks for this, I literally never knew the difference, I assumed F was some colt factory forging or something. Great info!

Good to know I had to compromise on my flat top build. I dont have the resources to pin a a2 block and had to go with a clamp style thats F marked.
Thanks I had some questions that you answered for me great video.
Now what does the F in F. Murray Abraham stand for ?
Great video brotha Thank you
Awesome info. Kinda humorous though. I know the feeling
Good info, thanks for the clarification on what f marked means
Awesome explanation Bro. I wish everybody over AR15 dot com will make this easy to understand it.
Thank you for this wealth of information
Really great explanation thanks

I finally learned what the "F" on the A2 front post sight means...
there is no F on an A2 front sight base
Thanks, man!
i would switch the barrels out.

That would drive me crazy until I swapped the barrels.
Never mind, I just saw your comment. That's cool that you were able to make it work, though.
So, why don’t you just swap the barrels with each other so they are on the correct receivers?
The uppers had different owners.
Thanks
helpful, thanks
Does anyone still sell standard a2 sights. Not f marked.
Del-ton
Why didn’t you just swap barrels?
Belong to different people.
