@@Brett_Senzer it was at some point, James would just turn away from the crowd and put the microphone away from his mouth while "someone" was still singing (it wasn't even petrucci simulating backing vocals).
6:28 He is singing one octave lower while the normal track is playing. It amazes me how he can sing so low coming from being upstairs for the entire song, especially since James isn't low-voiced. Amazing.
These are also amazing due to the absence of singing one octave lower but miming to it. I know another term for it.... th-cam.com/video/vQzaLEuWdhk/w-d-xo.html (El Cajon) th-cam.com/video/miufXGXqpfs/w-d-xo.html (West Valley City - audio) th-cam.com/video/ZVj1uo1HOyw/w-d-xo.html (Denver) th-cam.com/video/3UNQP0FN39g/w-d-xo.html (Milwaukee) th-cam.com/video/8-cruPo-xjA/w-d-xo.html (Detroit) th-cam.com/video/5v4-nU4cWQs/w-d-xo.html (Akron) th-cam.com/video/6gR_n3iT95M/w-d-xo.html (Boston) th-cam.com/video/23FcoGe6iCQ/w-d-xo.html (Quebec City) th-cam.com/video/QKC3kOyRk1Y/w-d-xo.html (NYC) th-cam.com/video/-Os2h1yj1Mw/w-d-xo.html (Wallingford)
For those commenting on the dead crowd- Yeah, it's sad. Are we all getting too old? What about the next generation of fans? I saw DT for the 3rd time back in 2003 for the SDOIT tour- almost 20 years ago- I was 27 years old. It was at the Vic Theater in Chicago- a ballroom with a wooden floor and seating around the perimeter where you could try to get a drink. Since we were all packed in there- general admission- everyone fed off each other- Petrucci, Portnoy, Myung, and James were all headbanging during Glass Prison- the opener. And we went NUTS! Jumping, headbanging, waving arms (and our lighters and flip phones during the ballads). And all out spectacular rock/metal show. The second night DT played Master of Puppets in its entirety. Everyone head banged and shouted the lyrics the entire time! My 45-year-old self still likes to stand, head bang, jump, and scream after a solo. The ONLY time I sat during a DT show was for The Ashtonishing- a different type of show. Even the last Rush show I went to with my dad- Vapor Trails tour- even his 60-year-old self was going nuts! What's up DT fans? Just my 2 cents.
About the crowd, as a massive DT fan I'll add that much of their catalog is music for thinkers, for people like myself who just overthink all the time do to anxiety or whatever else. Many DT songs will make me sit in silence just listening to the rhythms and instruments, time signatures, etc. Maybe thats just how a dt crowd should be, just a bunch of anxious nerds trying to calm our minds and match our anxieties with fast over the top, progressive music. It doesn't always make you headbang but thats ok. Its like it overtakes my anxiety and I can finally relax a bit. Many others may feel the same but Im curious.
I will check what else I have. Didn't film too much of this one as I wanted to enjoy the show! I do have a lot of other Dream Theater concerts I will upload as well.
Yes, you can hear backing tracks, yes it's a bit distracting and probably too loud, but no, he isn't lip syncing. He is still clearing singing along to the backing harmonies. You can hear his live voice throughout the whole song. If he were lip syncing, you wouldn't hear him at all.
I don't think it's wrong of him, he's almost 60 years old, and it's been at least 2 decades since his voice has changed tragically, and now at 60 he has to listen to people complaining about his voice, and when he changes something to leave the best performance for the audience, they also complain, must be stressful.
So James sounds universally terrible live now, except for during the second half of this song in which he comes alive and sounds as good as studio..... Yeah, sounds completely legit.
The last couple of times I have seen them live they have been all seater shows, and it's not been in an all seated venue. They are the only rock band I have seen do that.
Portnoy sucks, without Mangini the true Master and artistry of percussion has left. They really need to get rid of the singer, get Brittney out of retirement to lip sync!
Best song of Dramatic Turn of Events with Outcry 💚
Lost not forgotten
This is now a lot better than fully lip syncing, that lower octave harmony sounds nice. Finally they found a way not to fake it...
It was never lip syncing. They play along to a track with background vocals since they don’t have Portnoy anymore.

Love this song

Yeah but we hear the track more than his voice…

Great vid! I was there row 2 balcony! Amazing show!
I sort of like the harmony of the lower chorus with the higher backing track. Sounds interesting

Why doesn't Mike mangini sing? Didn't he sing when he was in the band extreme?
could someone explain the connection between the Aztec calendar and dragons? weird....
If you have more of this concert it would be awesome if you posted them.

Unbelieveable. How can JLB say fuck you to those who rightfully points out he’s using backing tracks?

Bobo kumanta

I would like to see the crowd headbanging, running in circle and making some pogo like true metalheads! But DT's crowd seems always dead and boring...
The last couple of times I have seen them live they have been all seater shows, and it's not been in an all seated venue. They are the only rock band I have seen do that.
Wait till they come to South America 👍🏼👍🏼
Wasn't always like this. Yeah it's lame.

DT lost all their rock n roll power when Portnoy left.
what a horrible crowd! shame..
