Travincal was disappointing but they did kind of try to mimic Durance with all the golden filigrees and a big skull. What bothers me is that in D2 you go up to enter Durance, in D4 you go down. At least Kurast dock is kind of recognizable.
I wouldn't say that. Activision as a publisher is rotten. I'm sure the developers actually working on the game are pouring their hearts and souls into it to make it the best game in their view. Unfortunately they have the wrong view of what an ARPG should really be like. Or they do have a view, but the management is forcing them to make a game like this.
Hard pass. The IGN review says a bunch of negative things out right but still gives it a 8/10. The only highlight seems to be the new class, and that's it. Also runewords from Temu.
Calling the new runeword as runeword is blatant cash in on nostalgia. It's nothing like runeword at al not even when straight up copy the names of some of the high runesl. If they have integrity, they would have called it something else.
the biggest joke about it is that they had already previewed basically that exact system years ago to a closed audience and they told them it sucks so they didn't ship it on release. Now they just shipped it anyways lol. The desperation.
The strangest thing is that Joe said in an interview that they brought back Runewords, because they didn't think they felt like they reminded of the predecessor, and when runewords releases it should feel like D2 did? what a total opposite of his statement, now has added the same garbage that they showed for 3 years? Do they call this runewords? it's embarrassingly bad!

I don't think that was truly him if I'm reading it right, it's like a vessel of him, as in the title. Maybe a bit like what Duriel was? I was expecting the real Mephisto as the final boss though. Lame af.

You have people whose hardest, most in-depth thought provoking process is; what latte to have, what movement to follow or what do celebs say I should do, making this game.
I was talking with a friend while holding a button on gamepad [D4 is a primary a console game] and my character was auto attacking - like side, behind upfront etc and killing everything
D4 is not the game for me. D3 wasn't really either. PoE is just zoom-zoom too. The disappointing thing is that people say that there are a variety of games to try in the ARPG genre, but they all seem to want to be "rush to max level - > super quick kill sprees". Hence why D2 keeps bringing me back. Also, pet peeve, annoying that the "apply all the things from previous characters" is now universal - can't you simply give a "new game" and "new game+" option for those of us who like to start actually fresh? (Personal props to Grim Dawn for not being like that)
Ironically, the reason that new characters start with all of the stuff was because people complained about having to do all the stuff again every single season. So the player base ruined you on that one, but I also kinda agree that it was boring and lame to have to redo everything all over again. Oh boy, let’s go farm renown again. i haven't played it, but ~70% of the time spent in cutscenes is crazy for an ARPG. the lack of difficulty in the game is unsurprising though as many modern games are made fail-proof for regular gamers. i hear poe2 has oldschool difficulty which will be refreshing for a change.
I'm a D4 fan so I am biased and I think the critique of the story being so separate from the actual grind of a Diablo game is fair. Those two could be better paired together. The grind is in the new endgame systems and I think it's quite a lot of fun. I think D4 and D2 are different enough that if you prefer one, you might not prefer the other. I don't know that that means either one is better at this point but they are different. I like them both equally for different reasons but D4 definitely feels like it gives me more reasons to keep playing. I do tire of running the same bosses with the same build 1000 times just to get a shot at a better item in D2 endgame.
100% agree with this. I actually prefer D2R but I do see the merit in D4. My hope would be that we see a split between the "classic" and "modern" Diablo series so that each can evolve differently. I think this is what GGG is attempting to do with PoE 1 and 2. To me this is the right way to go about things... You can't please everyone.
Yes because it’s a live service game. Another downside of forcing this shared world always online aspect. In something like D2 where you’re not required to be online, you don’t need everyone to download everything. But in a live service game everyone needs to be playing the same version with all the same content since everyone is connected online. So they make you download it but just require you to pay to unlock it.
So we basically paid $40 for a new area, new class and some new runes/runewords that everyone has already said are super disappointing? Bro i learned so much from llama about diablo 2. Forever grateful for his willingness to share knowledge. Way before Diablo IV came out, i could already see him absolutely not liking it. And that’s fine. Nowadays, it just seems his trying to punish blizzard for not giving him new stuff on D2R. For context, I am a D2 veteran and enjoying the hell out of VoH. Campaign got me pissed for 20 mins max but the rest of the development is so good that it hurts watching lazy reviews like this one.
@@valentim.mp4 I am actually glad we have varying ARPG's. The problem is everyone wants every ARPG to be like the one THEY like. I'm also a hardcore D2 veteran and I can see what D4 brings to the table. Mind you not the game for me... but there are things they did right with the game.
I'll always love the Diablo franchise regardless what direction it goes. Each release has been a different take and flavor on the games I've loved for 25 years and will not forget. Llama is living in the past and will not move on. The game D2 that we all fell in love with is over 20 years old and should be left there unmolested like a relic.

Infernal hords, Pits, open world (strongholds!) mercenaries...lot of cool and interesting stuff. I am just going to block lama videos now.
Mephisto went furry in D4. Thank god I never bothered buying D4 vanilla neither this expansion. I already knew Diablo series died with the fiasco of D3.
Well, while that would improve things a little, he still didn't attack actively once anything. And it was a cakewalk. So your point really doesn't help with the fact that this game can be played buy a blind person where you guide them where to click on the screen.
@@richardred4396 you can’t though. If you really changed the difficulty to penitent, you will dead constantly and unable to progress if you don’t try very hard. Actually even if you try it’s probably not doable at Penitent. It wasn’t designed to be played from level 1

Dude, just don’t play D4 because you are just so out of touch with what gamers want nowadays. I was in the motion of feeling disappointed by the story and now I know I'm not gonna like the ending. I was extremely disappointed by Mortal Kombat 1's expansion story and was hoping this would make me feel better about buying an expansion.
Generally love your content, Llama, but this was very weak and uninspired. I agree with most of the points you make here, but some, especially the beginning, are just pointless to include in a critique of this game as it has nothing to do with the expac itself, and are core features to d4. You like d2, we get it. I do too. But putting this out while doing the literal bare minimum and nothing else feels very lazy and insipid. Either ignore the content releases or do better
It's Mephisto after he takes over the body of Akarat. He looks like the stereotypical depiction of Jesus. It's how the expansion ends. You don't fight him. Probably going to be another 40 dollar expansion to finish the fight against the Lord of Hatred. I guess in hindsight, they didn't name it Lord of Hatred. "Vessel". Like you just follow the thing carrying the Lord of Hatred around until its time to go fight him. It's a joke.

I was so glad I didn't buy the expansion, but I was still curious to see how the base game is developed for season 6. But Blizzard said no. I downloaded like 40 gigas of stuff, then they had that "delay" thing, then I find myself downloading 38 gigas once more now (still not complete). Meh, whatever. Why do I have to download 40 gigas twice if I didn't even buy the thing.

The waterfall situation is exactly what bothered me the most. Most of the quests i encountered were pointless and stupid. I felt offended by the game :D
I had no idea that we were supposed to know the girl from the Expansion. I totally forgot about her, and I thought it was new character . I still miss old D2 or D3 act structure. Teleporting all over the world during campaign feels strange .
10:03 that is what alleged AAA-Games are today. At least the western ones. "You can do no wrong!" "That'll be 90€ and the 40€ for the DLC please, Sir!" "Your next dose of workfree accomplishment will arrive shortly!" Failing is not a milestone on the way to the goal anymore, in western society . Everything has to work first try or its some outer factor that made you fail this or that. Picard said it: "It is possible to commit no mistakes and still lose. That is not a weakness, that is life!" I say we lost that view on life and have to have everything served on a silver platter in mouth sized pieces.
I was on the fence but now that I know Mephisto doesn't return in his D2 form I'm not wasting my money. I played Sorc at launch and then another Sorc for loot reborn but it looks like I'll be waiting to see if season 7 is any good.
Sad part is that when VoH goes from 40$ to 15$ on sale to be worth it, Blizzard would have already released a third 40-60$ DLC that obsoletes previous content so you're not getting any value on the Vessel of Hatred discount anyway.
Your point at 5:01 should fr be shown in their dev meetings or whatever bc this is such a disappointment. The campaign should absolutely punish / soft-block characters who don’t engage with progression systems
ok, so how can they win you over? i mean it is easy to complain, everyone can hate, disappointed and complain but seems like nobody can explain how it can be better
Wow, this game is actually made for babies. How do you give challenges to a newborn? Parent: "What does the cooowww saaayyy!?" Baby: "Goo Goo Ga Ga!" *Flails arms randomly* Parent: "Woooowww!!! You did it! Yaaayyy!"
The game is made for people that don't know how to do literally anything for themselves. So, can you imagine if you didn't easily level, or actually had to fail at a puzzle? The outrage would be insane. It's constant "you did great" and positive affirmations, it's gross.

Travincal was disappointing but they did kind of try to mimic Durance with all the golden filigrees and a big skull. What bothers me is that in D2 you go up to enter Durance, in D4 you go down. At least Kurast dock is kind of recognizable.
I was definitely disappointed how unrecognizable travincal turned out
Travincal really was not as recognizable. Kurast Docks and Durance lvl 3 and durance overall were pretty similar.
the game is rotten because the people created it are rotten
100.

IGN who gave Space marine 2 6/10, Alien isolation 6/10 and The Gollum game 6/10. Official game reviews are just marketing reviews.

@@TheExplodingCore That's pretty on brand with this team. Let me guess, runewords reborn next year lol
The strangest thing is that Joe said in an interview that they brought back Runewords, because they didn't think they felt like they reminded of the predecessor, and when runewords releases it should feel like D2 did? what a total opposite of his statement, now has added the same garbage that they showed for 3 years? After playing D4 I decided to try playing d2 resurrected, I ran straight into mobs like I would in D4 spamming skills etc and died.....

Mephisto as a dog is just bad, he's one of my favorite enemy models in d2. They missed the boat on that
But it’s a wolf, not a dog
I don't think that was truly him if I'm reading it right, it's like a vessel of him, as in the title. Maybe a bit like what Duriel was? I was expecting the real Mephisto as the final boss though. Lame af.
he looks like the "Sulyvahn's Beast" (The dog creature) in Dark Souls 3 at the bridge connecting Irithyll of the Boreal Valley

Thats about it
Sounds like this auto piloting mobile games , not like game from Diablo franchise
(Personal props to Grim Dawn for not being like that)
I'm not sure if I understand what you mean by POE being just zoom-zoom too, how is it zoom-zoom in a way that D2 isn't?
Ironically, the reason that new characters start with all of the stuff was because people complained about having to do all the stuff again every single season.
So the player base ruined you on that one, but I also kinda agree that it was boring and lame to have to redo everything all over again. Oh boy, let’s go farm renown again. Oh boy, let’s get those Lilith statues again.

i haven't played it, but ~70% of the time spent in cutscenes is crazy for an ARPG. the lack of difficulty in the game is unsurprising though as many modern games are made fail-proof for regular gamers. i hear poe2 has oldschool difficulty which will be refreshing for a change.

95GB update... a grim joke.

It's the state of all the other players stash data being installed so that it loads faster lol
And u dont even fight meph? 😂😂 yea i think next expansion of this game that comes out im just gonna wait and watch others play before i even bother buying it.
