Reassuring to know, given that I’m going back to the Riu Tequila (for the 1st time in 16 years. Yes. Sixteen!) to celebrate Christmas (also my first time spending the Holiday Season outside Europe). From what I can remember last time, this hotel has been refurbished twice since my first visit in 2008.
All of your Riu videos are incredibly helpful! Thank you so much for posting them. This is helping my decision of which one to choose so much for our next trip!

My partner and I stayed at this riu tequila 2 weeks ago. I must admit, I've never missed a hotel this much! Would highly recommend this hotel to anyone! Great video :)
This was honestly the best hotel I think I’ve ever stayed at! The food was incredible, rooms were beautiful and clean and everything in general was great. No word of a lie, I couldn’t pick a single fault with out stay!
The best resort ! I go here every year I have gone to riu Lupita but this one is the best one by far ! They have so many things to do and entertainment. Recommend if somebody is going to playa del Carmen Cancun very beautiful beach 🌊☀️ I’m going this year , I search up riu tequila resort to remember great times I had ! And I saw this video and loved it very well explain and greatest tour I’ve seen keep up great work man !
I have been there once as a child with my family in 2001. Great hotel. I remember being amazed by the pool with the bar inside. I also love the layout of the garden with all the rooms spread around. Great atmosphere. It still looks like 2001. They modernised the lobby a bit which I personally do not like because it used to have a very mexican flair. But all in all, it still looks amazing. Definitely gonna go back one day.
That’s fun! Glad you were able to reminisce from your childhood vacations! I think the remodel was to keep it modern and trendy. Certainly lost some transitional Mexican flair though.
We been going since 2000 to the Riu Tequila and Riu Playacar and saw all the changes. They are excellent changes! The old ones were awesome but we also love that they were redone! They needed a facelift for sure.
I am a travel agent and I often search for videos to assist with suggestions to clients for places I have not visited or stayed. I was searching for property for clients with a linited budget but wanted to get them suggest to them somthing nice. I watched a couple of your videos and found them to be amongst the best of the numerous videos I have reviewed. Thank you for sharing.

We been going to the Riu Playacar and Riu Tequila for 23 years now! This May we went some place different and it was the most horrible experience ever! So we decided to go to Riu Tequila in July to recover! Lol
We were there in 2003 for our honeymoon. Kind of sad they removed the fountain that was in the lobby but it looks like they added a lot more since then. I think there were only two restaurants there in 03. I don't remember there being a theater either. We also did an excursion to Xel-Ha and Tulum while staying there.
Great video very informative, just got some questions if you don’t mind answering: 1. Nightlife - Was the nightclub open and what time did the bars close. 2. Resort Hopping - Is there a shuttle or do we have to resort to walking? Thanks in advance!
At time stamp 5:25 in this video, you can see the hours for all the bars. The sports bar is the one that is open 24hrs. When we went in August this year, the nightclub was not open - but that might have changed.
Solo traveller, would you recommend Riu Tequila or Barcelo Beach/Tropical more? I just want decent food, margaritas and beach access! Thanks I love your videos.
@@WherewegoingNext Last year I stayed at Barcelo Tropical and while the beach, the grounds and pools were lovely I cannot say the same about the food. There was a lot of food offered but it wasn't that tasty, what worse it was always cold. It seems there is more choice for lunch at Barcelo beach buffets - what is visible here in this video at the Tequila beach buffet is only a small percentage of what Barcelo has to offer in each of it's 4 buffet grills. However at Barcelo nothing is really tasty - the best thing I had there was burgers at the grill beach buffet - then when dinner time came I always regretted those burgers were no available in the main buffets. I was also disappointed with Barcelo a la carte restaurants therefore now I am looking for a different hotel.
Was the AC In your room super cold . Cause when I stay at the Barcelo resort In Cancun , that was a big problem, they Ac was broken & it took them 2 days to move me to a room that had ac but it was not even cold . Super annoying since Cancun is super humid & hot
We didn’t stay at this resort personally, we just toured one of the rooms. The room we toured had excellent AC - sounds like you just had a bad experience at Barcelo.
No, we have never experienced any mosquitos in the Mayan Riviera - or any bugs for that matter - so you should be good 👍🏻 if you’re worried, bring a bug spray with you and you will be fine. Enjoy your trip and stay safe!
@@WherewegoingNext thank you very much! Here in the Netherlands, they advice to spray yourself with special bug spray for mosquitoes that bite during day time to avoid dengue or something. That stuff smells very bad 😔
I do believe the spray an insecticide to make sure there aren’t any bugs… and we haven’t seen any during the day at all. You can bring the bug spray just in case but I doubt you will need it 👍🏻
In the fridge located at the sports bar it seemed to display a warning not to take food outside the hotel. Can you take it if going for a tour? Also, how was the wifi? Thank you

Your videos are so helpful- thank you! Two questions: 1. Can you clarify (if I’m staying at the Palace in PDC can we eat dinner at Tequila or just at our hotel)? 2. How do you handle tipping? (Each time you get a drink or at the end of your stay)? USD or Pesos?
No, you are meant to eat dinner at your own hotel but you can visit the other resorts. You don’t necessarily need to tip for each drink, but if you’re sitting at the bar and get a number of drinks for the same bartender then it is nice to tip them. We’ve always used USD 👍🏻

Hello, apologies if this has been asked already. When you book all inclusive are all bars/restaurants included? I’ve been to multiple hotels now, which advertise as all inclusive but when arriving you have to pay extra for certain restaurants etc. Is this the case with this hotel? Yo me quedé en el Riu Playacar, super decepcionada, el personal administrativo con acento español de España, no supieron resolverme una situación que se me presentó con la habitación, deberían tener personal mexicano o alguna otra nacionalidad de América Latina, los de España aun no quieren bien a los latinos, en fin, lo que sí disfruté mucho fue caminar por el complejo Playacar, es un encanto, el boulevard, las casas, los resorts, rentamos un auto y tuvimos la oportunidad de visitar otros hoteles de la misma cadena (sin costo adicional) tales como Riu Lupita, Riu Tequila, Riu Península, Riu Palace Cancun ... eso estuvo super bien, nos permitían comer en los restaurantes de bufet y hacer uso de las instalaciones, amé el complejo Playacar y el acceso a otros hoteles incluidos los de Cancun ... ❤
Does anybody have experience with both Barcelo Riviera Maya (Tropical, Colonial, Beach, Caribe) and Riu resorts? I'm thinking of either Yucatan, Tequila or Playcar. How does the food in those resorts compare? Is Riu's food better than Barcelo's? Last year I went to Barcelo in Riviera Maya and because of the food I will never go there again. Another question - if you stay at Tequila can you use the Yucatan gym which is better, and if you stay at Yucatan can you use Tequila pools (which seem to be quieter) or Playcar pools?
I would say the food is a bit better at the RIU hotels, but kind of similar to be honest 🤷🏼♀️ yes, you can visit the other Riu hotels in the area, other than the Riu Palaces.
@@WherewegoingNext Thank you. In what way is the food better and in what way similar - if you could please elaborate? My problem with Barcelo food was that most dishes in the buffets were lukewarm or even cold both at breakfast and dinner (I always would put the colder things like salads first and the hot last and eat straight after bringing them to the table). My second problem was that the food was bland - it contained quite a lot of salt but there seemed to be nothing more than salt. The same bland food was served in a la carte restaurants (both Japanese were quite nice but still I would like the food in there to be more spicy and flavorsome. Generally I'm not looking for a large food selection - for me it is better when a restaurant offers less dishes but of better taste and of higher temperature.
@mariuszpartyka7522 honestly, it’s hard to remember specifics.. we’ve always been satisfied with the food at Riu hotels, but it can be hit or miss. I would say the best way to get warm, fresh food is to head to the buffet or restaurant closer to opening time if possible.
Yes they put a wristband on you and no you can’t take it off until you leave. Yes, they look at wristbands the see who’s allowed at the various RIU resorts

We can’t speak to the walls bc we didn’t stay here, but yes it attracts more of a party crowd than RP Riviera Maya

Yes, you can take snacks and sandwiches with you 👍🏻 they probably just don’t want you feeding the wildlife. The wifi is great 👌🏻👌🏻

Yes, I can have breakfast and lunch- at least we did when we were there with no problems 🤷🏼♀️ but they did turn us away at dinner.

Yo me quedé en el Riu Playacar, super decepcionada, el personal administrativo con acento español de España, no supieron resolverme una situación que se me presentó con la habitación, deberían tener personal mexicano o alguna otra nacionalidad de América Latina, los de España aun no quieren bien a los latinos, en fin, lo que sí disfruté mucho fue caminar por el complejo Playacar, es un encanto, el boulevard, las casas, los resorts, rentamos un auto y tuvimos la oportunidad de visitar otros hoteles de la misma cadena (sin costo adicional) tales como Riu Lupita, Riu Tequila, Riu Península, Riu Palace Cancun ... eso estuvo super bien, nos permitían comer en los restaurantes de bufet y hacer uso de las instalaciones, amé el complejo Playacar y el acceso a otros hoteles incluidos los de Cancun ... ❤

Does anybody have experience with both Barcelo Riviera Maya (Tropical, Colonial, Beach, Caribe) and Riu resorts? I'm thinking of either Yucatan, Tequila or Playcar. How does the food in those resorts compare? Is Riu's food better than Barcelo's? Last year I went to Barcelo in Riviera Maya and because of the food I will never go there again. Another question - if you stay at Tequila can you use the Yucatan gym which is better, and if you stay at Yucatan can you use Tequila pools (which seem to be quieter) or Playcar pools?
I would say the food is a bit better at the RIU hotels, but kind of similar to be honest 🤷🏼♀️ yes, you can visit the other Riu hotels in the area, other than the Riu Palaces.
@@WherewegoingNext Thank you. In what way is the food better and in what way similar - if you could please elaborate? My problem with Barcelo food was that most dishes in the buffets were lukewarm or even cold both at breakfast and dinner (I always would put the colder things like salads first and the hot last and eat straight after bringing them to the table). My second problem was that the food was bland - it contained quite a lot of salt but there seemed to be nothing more than salt. The same bland food was served in a la carte restaurants (both Japanese were quite nice but still I would like the food in there to be more spicy and flavorsome. Generally I'm not looking for a large food selection - for me it is better when a restaurant offers less dishes but of better taste and of higher temperature.
@mariuszpartyka7522 honestly, it’s hard to remember specifics.. we’ve always been satisfied with the food at Riu hotels, but it can be hit or miss. I would say the best way to get warm, fresh food is to head to the buffet or restaurant closer to opening time if possible.

Yes they put a wristband on you and no you can’t take it off until you leave. Yes, they look at wristbands the see who’s allowed at the various RIU resorts
