      @@gabrielebranca5557there's no the best one for many reasons, each island has its own culture abd geography, its own dialect, its own wine sort or sorts, different towns, beaches and coves, not all are orineted toward the same main economic activity, so it really differs a lot, may seem similar for a stranger but it's not.
      Just look at two big north dalmatian islands pag and rab, while rab is a popular party place, something like croatian ibiza with zrče beach, it is mostly due to its microclimate barren and moonlike especially on its northern side, it is beautiful tho, and has awesome places, the island main activity was solt producing with its salt lagoons in the middle of the old town pag, also famous cheese due to its barren state the sheep mostly eats that mediterranean resistent bush full of aromatic oils, so the cheese is excellent and very salty ofc, the lamb is also very famous because the lamb marinates itself eating that stuff while still alive, so it has many things and its very popular and it's connected with the bridge on its southern side.
      Rab is on the other hand very lush with a big mediterranean oak forest, it's situated north of pag and you almost never see it in vlogs, it'd likr a secret for wealthier croats and more in the know foreigners, mostly germans, some slovenes and italians, the town of lipar has probably the best sand beach in entire coubtry with 400 meters long shallows into the sea, ideal for families with children, the town of rab is just sonething else with its 4 towers from 4 churches lined up, it's an old town, famous medieval festivity rapska fjera (fiera of rab) rab due to its location and wood reserves was always seafarer's and merchant's island, rab is that what hvar wants to be, posh without even trying to be posh, it just is.
      So you have two bigger islands next to each other pag and rab, pag is the island of sheepowners, rab is the island of shipowners, both are great, both main towns are great, look similar but xompletely different.

    Hvar is a nice island for people who don't know Croatia and who love hypes. Anyone who knows the other places in Croatia will never go to Hvar. I have been to all the islands, have seen the entire coastline, took me a couple of years, but at least I can say I have done it, and I place Hvar island next to Krk, island, not really worth a visit. My favorite islands ? Korcula and Losinj. If you want to party and think Carpe Diem is it..................wait until you get to Pag and visit Zrce beach. If you think Hvar city is it.....................wait until you get to Korcula city, Dubrovnik or even Mali Losinj. Hvar city is a bit like Umag, on a scale of 1 - 10 I give it a 4. You want peace and quiet ? Go visit any of the other islands, loads of places to go to.

    • @stjepankujadin15
      @stjepankujadin15 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      Your statement seems exaggerated. Are you American?
      Hvar, whether hyped or not, is a beautiful island on the Croatian coast. While I agree Korcula is stunning, your comparison downplays other places. Zrce beach may have a rowdy reputation, but Pag island, where it is located, is remarkable with fantastic food. Doubting a visit of 1244 islands in Croatia seems unwarranted, and comparing the hype for Hvar and Dubrovnik is subjective, as both are popular for distinct reasons.

    • @davedavids9619
      @davedavids9619 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@stjepankujadin15 I lived in Croatia for nearly 10 years, basically travelled each island that is reachable by car and now I am doing the rest by boat. I was on Hvar right after the war, Hvar city really reminded me a lot of Umag, not something special.
      Then Hvar went on the marketing trail and I must admit they did that very well. So now they get all the attraction, but anyone who knows Croatia knows Hvar is absolutely nothing special.
      The only reason I am saying this is to get the tourists interested into leaving the beaten path and to go to places that far outshine Hvar and Hvar city. Some of the best pasta all' astiche I have ever had was in Starigrad,. I can still remember the flavor and can still find the restaurant with my eyes closed, was 26 years ago 😀
      It is a pity to see tourists from the US, Canada etc, who come from far away and they think that Hvar, Trogir, Dubrovnik and perhaps Zadar is all that Croatia has to offer. They get ripped off, eat mediocre food, drink sh*tty wine and think that is the real Croatia. To them I can only say: forget these places, come to see what Croatia is really about, find the gems and you will be truly amazed.

    • @davedavids9619

      @@JoeHunt-kp6tf If you are here for only a week you can either choose the see the difference between the North and the South or you can focus on a few spots. We used to go one month to the island of Losinj, so you can easily spend 1 week on the islands Cres - Losinj - make daytrips to Susak, Sv Ivan beach on Cres, Valun, visit Osor, on to Mali and Veli Losinj, spend a day on the beach, take a boat trip to see the dolphins south of Losinj. You will be very busy for 1 week, you won't pass by the beaten path, but you will still see the authentic Croatia. If you do it a bit faster you can take a ferry to Rab, which was the favorite island of King Edward and Wallis Simpson. Once you go there you will understand why they liked it so much.
      A bit more south and you could visit the area around Zadar, see Zadar, cross with the ferry to Pasman, Ugljan and the islands in that area. If you have a car you pay the ferry man and off you go. Just drive around and you will get to places the average tourist will never see. You will sit on a small terrace, with old chairs with the locals, eating freshly caught fish for a fraction of the price of what you pay in Hvar, Dubrovnik etc plus it is much better prepared.
      If you want to be around Dubrovnik, so you can see it for a day you can find a place to stay in Zaton, just north of Dubrovnik. Takes you 10 - 15 min to get to Dubrovnik, but it is a beautiful bay, calm, quiet, where you can still experience the tranquility of life in Croatia. Rent a car and drive to the island of Peljesac for the day. So many places where you can taste good food and perfect wine (the best wine of Croatia comes from Peljesac). If you want to spend another day on the road you drive back to Peljesac, but now take the ferry to Korcula. Korcula town is something to see, but the national park on the north west side of the island (near Vela Luka) is great if you want to see total peace and quiet even in the high season. Beautiful bays and you can have them all for yourself.
      From Peljesac and Korcula you can take a day trip to Mljet and Lastovo.
      One of the most beautiful ferry rides I ever did was Drvenik to Korcula town. Took it early in the morning and it will turn in between Korcula and Peljesac. That was the most beautiful view ever on a ferry, just magical. Found the visit card of an owner of apartments which were just one bay next to Korcula city, so walking distance. The view at night was simply amazing. Sitting with a glass of wine overlooking the water and seeing the lights of Peljesac in the distance, will never forget it. Driving to a small bay a bit further down the road, little fish restaurant and had a wonderful dinner. Nothing fancy, nothing special, all about flavor, pleasure and relaxing.
      I always say to people, if you have a car, just dare to take a dirt road (or even small paved road) towards the beach and 90 % sure you will find a hidden gem that not a lot of people know about.
      Good luck and enjoy the beauty of the country.

    at least a week? i was on hvar 6 times per one week and i have seen maybe 15% of the island. you didn't visit any historical landmarks, there are more than 100 beaches etc.

      One could live there and explore all the time. It was a very rough estimate based on itineraries that we see online where people do "the entire cost" in 10 days.

    Hvar is not an island for low budget travelers. You can't eat from supermarket and experience the culture of Dalmatia.

      It is definitely not the cheapest.
