I've been following Keymon for quite some time now... He always sounds better than before... consistently improving... A very unique sound... its not your typical cookie cutter baroque countertenor sound that sounds mechanically perfect... this is a warm human voice that is perfectly imperfect with fluid legato coloratura... to my ear it is the perfect voice to fill the Bel Canto pants roles gap that has been left by Daniella Barcelona as she has moved towards Verdi rep...
In 1791, the last year of his life, Mozart was already well advanced in writing Die Zauberflöte by July when he was asked to compose an opera seria. The commission came from the impresario Domenico Guardasoni, who lived in Prague and who had been charged by the Estates of Bohemia with providing a new work to celebrate the coronation of Leopold II, Holy Roman Emperor, as King of Bohemia. The premiere took place a few hours after Leopold's coronation. The role of Sesto was taken by castrato soprano, Domenico Bedini. The opera was written in close to 18 days or so & first performed publicly on 6 September 1791 at the Estates Theatre in Prague... Key'mon W. Murrah (Kentucky-borne USA counter-tenor) is singing one of the opera's most famous arias ("Parto, parto, ma tu, ben mio" with basset clarinet obbligato). It is not that I enjoyed Elīna Garanča (latvian mezzo-soprano) doing this Sextus Act 1 aria of "La Clemenza di Tito" before, but with his unique counter-tenor voice his rendition of this aria is utterly magnificent & close to Mozart's original intentions casting this role, thanks!
Keyomon, I am praying that you will have the right managers and guidance in your career in these tricky times. I believe to top talent will be recognized with the significant career. How about a Merola or Lindemann program? Seems that in the USA those two guarantee a significant career and management. Just want you to do really well.
What's important IMO is that Mr. Murrah has a sensitivity to the music and drama he is singing about. He is a musician. BTW, that last section was a little too fast for him, IMO. It would have been perfectly fine if it had been taken a tiny bit slower.
