I love the two very subtle language jokes!
1. When he asks Frau Frabissina "Wie gehts es ihnen?" Then asks her "How are things?" he basically asked her the same question twice.
2. When he couldn't remember the French phrase "Je ne sais quoi" he can't remember so he just says "I don't know what", which is a very literal translation on that phrase! Brilliant!
Joke 2 isn't subtle. That's a common joke that's been in a lot of movies and TV shows.
Joke 1 is "how are you?" and "how are things?"
2 different questions. And 4 different combinations of possible combined answers.

I should also mention that Number Two's investment in Starbucks looks like genius today.

Why lose everytime and have to go back in time when you can just get what makes the other guy always win.
