Thank you for this. Beautiful and wonderfully edited video and the music is spot on. I am Class of 1979. Was so nice to see the fairly current CWRU. I have not been back to Cleveland since graduation. Many of the buildings are exactly the same as when I was a student there. And our convocation was at Severance Hall. Best wishes to you.

I have just decided to join CWRU as a graduate student. While involving in extra-curricular activities might not be possible for me, it is good to see there are lots of options for students who want it. And you actually did an excellent job of editing the video. Subscribed!
Thanks for the great video. The song is deep. I graduated from Case in 2001, and am thrilled at seeing the lagoon, the stadium, the cathedral, and on. Awesome!
I appreciate you posting this. I just got into CWRU for grad school and I'm definitely considering attending there, and although undergrad and grad lifestyles are very different, the video was extremely helpful in capturing how campus life seems and how the surrounding area is like. Thank you again!
Thank you so much for these videos! I'm touring case tomorrow and plan on applying in the fall and I'm really looking forward to finally seeing the campus and seeing if it's a good fit for me.
@@sarah_kosen Thank you! If you don't mind me asking, what are your personal favorite parts of CWRU, or what stood out to you about CWRU compared to other colleges you were considering?
Alle Esor I don’t mind at all! I personally love the people at CWRU and how down-to-earth and passionate everyone is. I honestly think there are a lot of other universities that are better in almost all the other aspects (weather, food, etc), but CWRU people are really amazing and academics are rigorous (CWRU is lowkey pioneering some really cool tech especially with HoloLens). Also, although Cleveland isn’t everyone’s favorite city, Case has amazing free cultural museums and orchestras right on campus and I love that so much! CWRU stood out to me compared to other colleges I visited because it promised more opportunities to learn engineering, music, and art in a private school setting which is what I was looking for. When I visited campus (which I hope you get to do if you haven’t!), it felt right for me :)
@@sarah_kosen Your response helped me so much during my interview! Thank you! I really hope that I will be able to experience Case Western for myself one day.
Case is soo nice 😭 thanks for posting this video! I got accepted to case for 2024 class but i was wondering if you got into a big debt for it? And if there were extra ways you could pay them off? Like at this point case is the definite choice but im just worried about the debt
Applesauce first of all congratulations on your acceptance!! I don’t have much personal experience to share with you in this area😩 But I asked one of my close friends who is self-financing, and they said since things change year-to-year, it would be best to work as closely with financial aid as possible to figure those things out for your specific situation. I’m so sorry I can’t be of more help!!
So far the best student life vlog I've seen! Thanks for capturing the great moments! BTW, I see you're from Seattle, WA and wonder you had a choice to choose UW over CWRU. If so, what made you to come to CWRU and any thoughts to share?
Jun Lee thank you so much!! Yes, I had to choose between CWRU, UW, and UC Berkeley. The main thing was that with the CWRU financial aid I got, they all cost the same and when I visited CWRU I really liked the smaller private school feel rather than a huge public university. There’s a thread further down in this comment section where I talk about it more in detail! :) Avantika Bhaduri asked me a similar question two years ago, and now as a graduating senior I can really happily stand by my decision to come all the way to Cleveland to have made the most of all the opportunities CWRU has. I think it’s not so much choosing the “right” college but more so an internal struggle of understanding that there are unique opportunities at every university, and then determining that you’re going to do your best wherever you go. Also reflecting back on four years ago choosing what university to go to, it seems so much less intense now than it did in high school-I wish everyone felt less pressure surrounding the whole college admissions process. Sarah Ng hi Sarah! In the fall you can get a frequent fan pass and it’s only $35 for the entire season of Cleveland orchestra concerts!! And for individual concerts they have student tickets for $10. It’s one of my favorite things about CWRU :) I’m not in band but I played a semester in the string orchestra at CWRU which was fun! It’s not at the same level as the competitive youth orchestras I was in during high school, but I also have less time and focus to practice music, so it works out that way. I take violin lessons at CIM weekly too which are great! :)
swiggitysarah That’s really good to hear :) I’ve played flute for a long time and I don’t want to completely abandon it in college, but I was worried that joining marching band or an ensemble might make me suffer academically. Are you part of the joint program between CIM and CWRU?
Sarah Ng that’s awesome you want to continue music! I totally get that. You have freshman forgiveness which means you can drop a class your first year and have it erased from your transcript, so there’s a little room to figure out how much you can take on. I’m not in the joint program-I ended up getting more involved in campus clubs and volunteering instead, but it’s definitely something you can find out more information about.
Hmm maybe things have changed since I was a freshman in 2016, but I lived in Tyler house and had one roommate. We each had a twin XL mattress that worked out! I felt that it was an average-sized dorm. If you tour the campus they’ll show you the freshman dorms too so you can see for yourself :)

I'm still currently in highschool, but I've been considering cwru (hope I can get in), but I've been hearing some negative things about the campus and city. Anything you can tell me about this? Just started thinking about college and have so many questions
Ping Ling thank you for asking!! I feel like you’ll hear those negative things to some degree wherever you go-CWRU has a reputation of not having much school spirit and being depressed all the time but I think that’s something that naturally happens at high-level research universities where students are working hard and winters are cold. I always think it takes effort to be happy wherever you are, and I found my love for CWRU and Cleveland by actively seeking out opportunities and appreciating what’s unique here. Cleveland has a lot of good food and cultural places to explore for instance! I also think that despite some people not liking the university and Cleveland, most people will say they love the people and how down-to-earth and passionate the students are, which says a lot. Hey this was a great video! I’m also in the process of choosing a college and I love case academic wise and the only thing that’s holding me back are the things I’ve heard about the school being kind of boring and too serious and I was hoping to hear your thoughts on the general environment of the school. When you aren’t studying what’s there to do at the school for fun? Thank you!!
Aikya Chirra Hi Aikya!! The party scene is definitely not like a state school’s. There are still “traditional” college parties but they’re smaller and more personal. But mainly there are always a variety of events happening on/off campus (Little Italy, Coventry, Ohio City, museums within walking distance, Cleveland Orchestra, CWRU traditions like Fall Concert and Spring Comedian, etc.). I honestly have never felt bored at CWRU because of the Cleveland location and the things to do here, and also because of the friends I’ve made. I hope this helps!
Hey! I'm going to be part of the class of 2022. I'm planning on living at home because my house is pretty close to campus and I want to save money. I'm worried about how this will affect me socially. What do you think?
hi Maya! I asked my friend who commutes and this is what he said: “I’m really happy that I chose CWRU because of the friends that I have made. I think the most crucial thing I did was talk to people during orientation week. I sort of went along with people that I felt comfortable with. Orientation week is long and tiring, but it’s worth the effort to socialize then because once classes start people become a little busier. That’s not to say that you won’t make any friends in your classes because I made a lot of my friends there. My recommendation for them as a commuter is to not be afraid to get involved on campus. They should find the clubs that they’re interested in and join because there’s a really good chance that they’ll make some great friends there as well.” I hope this helps and happy new year!! See you in the fall☺️
hi! I'm considering applying to CWRU but I live pretty far north and I've sorta nervous being so away from home. What's the culture at the uni like compared to where you were from, or if u were from close by, do you have any friends who are from away who could talk about going to a college in a different region of the US?
Happy Lucky hello! I grew up in SoCal so CWRU was far away for me too! My school environment growing up was hyper-competitive so for me coming to CWRU was a nice adjustment. My experience of the culture at CWRU has been collaborative and down-to-earth. It can feel pretty stressful especially in the spring because most everyone works so hard and is involved in a lot of things. One of the hardest parts of not being from the Cleveland area for me was bringing all my stuff from the west coast and storing it in the summer. But I also enjoyed experiencing different weather and coming to a place where I knew no one and no one knew me. I hope this helps! Please let me know if I can clarify anything!
Genuinely thank u thank u sm for making these video and was so happy to see glimpses of ur 4 year journey which pulled me more towards accepting my offer to CWRU …. just wanted to ask u about how did u feel about the location and how did u manage there ? 💗✨and any tips on how to make the most of CWRU as in enjoying as a student over there
Congrats on accepting your offer!!! And thank you for your kind words. I actually really like Cleveland (I think I wouldn’t want to live there long-term but it was wonderful for college). University Circle has many incredible museums and good restaurants if you know where to go! I think taking public transportation off-campus occasionally (to Ohio City, the Flats, Coventry, or to Tremont to name a few places) is really fun and can make you feel more connected to Cleveland as a city instead of just a place where you go to college. For tips to be successful at CWRU- I would recommend getting really involved in the clubs and projects you feel excited about or pulled toward and to try not to become jaded or burnt out. Also academically, utilize your SI’s and go to their office hours! A lot of them saved my grades by explaining things to me better than my professors did. I also used the free one-on-one tutoring through KSL. I forgot the exact website or name of the service, but it is super helpful for the general degree requirements (like physics if you’re engineering). My most overarching advice is that many things about CWRU/college/getting older are just very frustrating and challenging, but it’s all a training ground for you to grow into the compassionate and resilient person you ultimately want to be. So seeing everything as an opportunity for growth and getting to experience the joy of exploring who you are with more independence in a way that’s responsible to others☺️ it’s gonna be a great four years! I hope that makes sense. Good luck with everything and have lots of fun and discovery at CWRU!!!
@@sarah_kosen OMG thank you so much for your time and your advice will definitely take it into consideration and so happy to hear from u that u had a great time and genuinely helped u to grow better at the end that’s what we are looking for. Thank you so much once again!!!!!
What’s the research environment like at CWRU? Is there a lot of pressure to do it? Are most students involved in research? Is it easy to get involved in research if that’s what you want?
Hi Kay! The research environment is really dependent on the lab. But research opportunities are pretty accessible--there are a lot of people (SOURCE office, Career Center, etc.) who offer a ton of help finding research if that's what you want. Also it can be easy as emailing your professor (or going to their office hours) and asking them if there are any positions available. I did that my second year and got into their lab! There's a lot more info on the website case.edu/cwruresearch/ too. I hope this helps!
Hi :) I was hesitating for the longest time after I got in for 2022, but seeing your video inspired me to give it more of a chance,go visit next week, and then decide. But, I'm still wondering how people decide. How did you? Please share any tips
Avantika Bhaduri Hi Avantika! I'm really glad that you commented :) Two years ago, I was deciding between UC Berkeley EECS and CWRU. I was lucky enough to not have to factor in money in my choice because both colleges were about the same price with my CWRU scholarship and Berkeley in-state tuition. So other than the financial aspect of the decision, I focused on the different reasons why I was drawn to each university. For me personally, the main pull towards Berkeley was prestige, and while that’s an extremely valid reason, I kind of knew deep down that I wanted more than that. I liked that CWRU was a smaller private school and had more freedom to be interdisciplinary, knowing that I wanted to study engineering but also be involved in music and art. When I write it out now, it seems really obvious that CWRU aligns more with what I wanted, but during the time I was making the decision, I was very torn and it seemed much, much more complicated. I think the most important thing to remember is that there isn’t really a “wrong” choice-I feel like it’s more of a decision to take responsibility for both the pros and cons of whatever university you go to. The process I went through agonizing over my decision was really important in that it made me feel very solid in my choice, ready for the positive parts and ready to take responsibility for the negative aspects too of going to CWRU. At every moment, I have never regretted my choice. I absolutely love CWRU. And I think that if I had gone to Berkeley, I still would’ve found a way to love it too. Ultimately though, I think the reasons that I chose CWRU were more about me being truthful to myself and what I wanted, and so far my time in college has reflected those reasons as I’ve become a lot more aware, confident, and happier. Sorry this is a little disorganized and long, but I hope it helped. Don’t feel trapped by your decision! We’re so lucky to make this choice, and you have the power to influence your environment no matter where you go :)
It wasn't disorganized :) Thank you so much for replying and sharing your personal experience with me. My head is clearer now. It's daunting to take responsibility for such a huge decision, but at the end of the day, like you said, it's a decision I should make rather than a burden my parents bear. I'm truly excited to go visit the campus. I'm doing the overnight program (March 29th-March 30th) and it would be awesome to meet up with you whenever you're free. Thank you so much for replying and I'll definitely take you up on your email offer
Jacob Chang congrats!! I asked my friend who’s a fourth year nursing student and this is what she said: “I love all of the clinical experience i've gotten and i think i'm better prepared for the nclex and the real world than you might get with another nursing school but the administration can be frustrating”
WOW AMAZING video. By the way, what's the second music? I wasn't gonna think about applying to case western, but now... I like it so much after this video.
Thank you so much!! I love being here at CWRU :) The second song is The Christmas Waltz played by Beegie Adair (th-cam.com/video/tudXBGpmcmg/w-d-xo.html) Happy Thanksgiving!!
I really liked this video! With only 2 days left (eek) I'm still deciding between CWRU, Northeastern, and UC Berkeley. I was planning on visiting the campus during my spring break but it got cancelled because of the coronavirus :'( This video gave me a good idea of how Case is (looks rllly nice!!) and I'm really considering committing here! Would you say the academics are really rigorous?Thank you so much!
ashley kim thank you so much!! I’m glad this video could help in some way with everything going on. The academics are definitely rigorous at CWRU! I was choosing between UC Berkeley EECS and CWRU, and that was one of my concerns too, but I have definitely been very challenged and learned a lot through the CWRU curriculum. Especially for engineering, CWRU is on par with schools like Berkeley.

swiggitysarah thank you so much for the help!
I hope this helps!
swiggitysarah thank you! Are most students involved in research in some way?
Kay L hmm I don’t know the percentage or exact number but a significant amount for sure. Most of my STEM friends are involved in research!
OMG! great video! how do you like Case?
F Lin thank you!! I absolutely love CWRU and I feel very grateful to go here :)
wow this is a great video diary
Thank you so much!!!
Hi :) I was hesitating for the longest time after I got in for 2022, but seeing your video inspired me to give it more of a chance,go visit next week, and then decide. But, I'm still wondering how people decide. How did you? Please share any tips
Avantika Bhaduri
Hi Avantika!
Avantika Bhaduri This is my email just in case: sjc131@case.edu if you have any questions or if you’d like to meet up when you’re here next week :)
Avantika Bhaduri Im so glad!! I can’t wait to see you soon :)
There's been a slight change of plans. I'll be coming April 5th-6th instead :) Hope to see you then! I guess I better get prepared for the cold
Hey just got accepted to Case for 2022 :) Do you know anyone who's in their nursing program and their thoughts on it?
Jacob Chang congrats!! I asked my friend who’s a fourth year nursing student and this is what she said:
“I love all of the clinical experience i've gotten and i think i'm better prepared for the nclex and the real world than you might get with another nursing school but the administration can be frustrating”
I also got accepted into the nursing program of 2022!! I'll see you there!
My roommate at CWRU back in the day and BFF is a grad of FPB School of Nursing 1980...she has had an amazing career. Highly recommend.

3:05 nice editing
James Shen thank you!
This video was amazing! Really hyped me up to visit the school soon!
Kyu Hun Han aww thank you so much!! I hope you enjoy CWRU as much as I do!!
