    How many other players could have made the Hall of Fame as a pitcher, hit 714 home runs, led the league in strike outs, and yet finished with a career batting average of .342? And played 20 years and won 7 World Series? Not many.

    My fav Ruth year. 1921: 59 HR (full teams didn't hit that many), 168 RBI. .378 AVG. .846 slugging and even 16 triples. And only a few years before, he was one of the best pitchers in the game. Amazing.

      I loved the 1927 team myself but every year with the Babe was amazing!

    Imagine how unstoppable Ruth would've been if he actually worked out and took care of himself. He is still the greatest home run hitter who ever lived. He hit 50 plus homers in a season multiple times and hit 60 in 1927. Ruth hit more home runs in a season than entire teams did. The guy was unbelievable

    The greatest of all time. My daughter plays fastpitch. One day she another girl asked my daughter about striking out, my daughter replied, Babe Ruth was the homerun king but he was also the strikeout king.
    I was amazed because I didnt know she knew who Babe Ruth was. Later I asked her qhere she heard about Babe Ruth, she said she read stories about him.

    Two words: "The Babe." When Ruth hit 59 in 1921 and 60 in 1927 he bested many teams in terms of total HR's! Babe Ruth didn't perfect the home run; he invented it. Yes, it existed before Ruth, but George Herman made it a vital part of the game. Before that, the HR was an oddity and considered by many "experts" of the time as a farcical part of the game. And, oh yeah ... he was one of the best pitchers in the history of the World Series. Ruth was a force of Nature and a true freak in terms of sheer talent.

    • @rogerhackler223
      @rogerhackler223 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Remember this STAN THE MAN who was true gentleman both on, and off the field for his sheer decency. Make no mistake about this one, and that is that Stan Musial was someone who made taking care of his body something that was a commandment of God's for the fact is that he spent his entire life striving for Sainthood. Now it is a fact that STAN THE MAN WAS A ONE WOMAN MAN, and he was someone who believed that he had an obligation to set an example to children, because they were priceless to him, and he never tolerated racism, for yes Stan Musial was all about not being racist fact! There are no two ways about this one, and that is that the man did treat his baseball career as a service to his country, because he was all about teaching baseball to other people rather than playing for himself. Musial was someone almost never struck out, although he popped out a lot of the time, and yes he played four positions in one game, and remember he never was thrown out of a game, because he was all about good sportsmanship fact! Musial was the promotion of human nature, and you look at his National League MVP record he just overwhelmingly humble when a black athlete by the name of Ernie Banks broke his National League MVP record in 1958 for the number of positions played in a game who gave Stan Musial the Good Guy award, which says you overestimated George Ruth, and you underestimated Stan Musial talking about one of the greatest baseball players of all time! There is more, and that is that STAN THE MAN would have quit had the St. Louis Cardinals ever traded him to the Philadelphia Phillies, Yes I do have even more to back up what I am saying about how it is true that Musial was better than Ruth, because the truth is that Ruth was so overweight, and out of shape, because he used tobacco, he drank an awful lot of alcohol, and he ate an awful lot of rich food, as where the truth about Musial about why he played so much better by all unaccounted factors is because he never used tobacco after he understood how it influenced children, he exercised a great deal, he drank extremely little alcohol, he exercised a great deal, and he ate an awful lot of simple food fact! Make no mistake about it Stan Musial even wrote up his own dietary fitness program. Now that is someone who many people will say came from out of nowhere. You need to get scientific about these athletes, and remember Willie Mays, and Ernie Banks! Some that is a lesser known medical fact about Ruth, and that is that George Ruth had nyctalopia considered legally blind (night blindness) he only had day vision, and that yes he did hit all of those home runs. It is also a lesser known medical fact that Stan Musial wore reading glasses his entire life to enhance both is distance vision, and night vision as well as Willie Mays, and Ernie Banks while many people thought it was crazy that they did this they found that it created the essential advantage that gave them the distance vision they essentially needed, as well as being night sighted being considered legally sighted. There for Ruth did not have such great vision where Musial. Mays, and Banks did have great vision fact!

    Babe Ruth may be the most powerful HR hitter of all times.
    His torque on the swing , and the speed of his swing are unsurpassed to this day.
    Remember -- He hit 54 HR. in parks where the deep parts were 450+ ft to fence with a soft core, "dead" ball in 1920. The game didn't harden the cores of the balls until after 1921-22 at least. That means, his 54 and 59 HR seasons were done with 400+ft distances on average with old, ash bats, and hitting squeeze toy balls. That's power!!
    I guarantee you that if you gave MR. Steroid head Barry Bonds, or Marc Migwire the same equipment and made them hit the same soft core dead ball that you could squeeze and compress in your hands, they wouldn't be able to hit it 500ft.
    oh, and BTW, the pitchers could doctor the ball too.

      Could anyone else ever hit for both power AND average like the Babe did? Most of the players who achieved batting averages like his were spray hitters, singles hitters, etc. A .342 career BA? Most players consider it a career year if they get there once. He was hitting .355 - .375 when he was breaking all those home run records.

    Hank Aaron was a great player and a class act but he had almost twice as many at-bats as Ruth. And he never pitched. Don't even consider the baseball players from the 1980"s and more recently due to PED's. Home runs were certainly a part of baseball before Ruth but he turned the homer into the ultimate offensive weapon and the Yankees into baseball's most valuable franchise. He towered above his peers.

    • @newerafrican
      @newerafrican 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Blacques Jacques Peers like Ty Cobb, Honus Wagner, Walter Johnson, George Sisler, etc. These guys hit for huge BA's but not homers until Ruth came along. And Ruth's style wasn't necessarily intentional, he was just a big strong guy with a good eye and strong upper body.

    • @jim165670
      @jim165670 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Quit embarrassing yourself Newer ... google a fact to be true before you quote it. Aaron did not have twice as many at bats as Ruth.
      At-bats
      Babe Ruth - 8,399
      Hank Aaron - 12,364
      Plate Appearances
      Babe Ruth - 10,622
      Hank Aaron - 13,941
      The rest of your agrument goes out the window when you start your post with such an incorrect statement. You told us everything we needed to know about your knowledge.

    • @newerafrican
      @newerafrican 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Drag your index finger under my words as you sound them out, Jimmy. I said ALMOST twice as many at-bats. If you cipher out how many home runs per at-bat each had, you would see that Ruth would have had 1051 career home runs if he had as many at-bats as Aaron. Plus, Ruth's career BA was .342 while Aaron's was .305, not to mention Slugging % and OPS (both are career records that still stand), pitching ERA, World Series rings, changing the game, etc. No disrespect against Hammerin' Hank, but the Babe reigns supreme!!

    Everyone talks about how the Babe could drink -- I've never heard or read anything about this, but I'm convinced he must have smoked his share of reefer, too. He hung out with jazz musicians, theater people, all those hard-partying types (today we'd call them "bohemiams"), and "muggles", as they called it then, was very popular in those circles. It would be impossible to believe that he was never somewhere where it was being smoked. And let's face it -- did the Babe ever say "No" to temptation or a good time???
