I really like your reviews, because you keep the focus on the important facts, come to the point straight forward and add a little bit of emotion. Keep up the good work! ;)
I've really been enjoying this one, and I reckon it'll win the Spiel des Jahres. I liked Karuba but soon got a bit tired of it. Codenames only really shines with big groups. This one is much more scaleable, playing as well with 2 players as it does with 4. It's quick and attractive. Yeah, I'm pretty impressed with Imhotep.
Reminded me my one try to play Egizia. Didn't like it, seemed too complicated. This one (at least the basic version) looks more streamlined. And the advanced variant (sides) can give more meat to heavy players. Looks nice.
Great review. Going on my already long wish list. Curious of why it did get an "Into My Collection" or does a rating of "Excellent" mean you will keep it?
@@trojan403 when we play, usually 3 players, the game moved quite quickly, but there was definitely some decisions to be made. If I move the boat here, will I get more points, or do I load the other boat? Everyone liked the game. I picked up the expansions as well, but we haven't played them yet.
I actually think the game is an illusion. Below is a sincere account of my experience. I have played 1 game of 4 players. 2 of my 3 opponents were board game vetarans. I only took the mine and placing actions and only used the sail action when I couldnt mine or place. my opponents were trying to make the best move and i wasnt even trying. to my surprise I ended up winning by just sheerly out resourcing them. There is being light, and then there is not even being a game. This falls into the latter category for me. If you own the game, try employing the strategy laid out above, you will probably win if your opponent is taking sail actions cause the sail action is a non action. 2/10, since I have played better casual games and better serious games that can call themselves game
wow i saw this game in a window the other day it stood out straight away as himotep is actaly my second name im guessing they chose the name as he created the first step pyramids
@Vaole Really? Wow, I've never had it fail to intrigue and get "play again" requests across all kinds of crazy mixes of people. Weird. I almost wonder if you're just flat out doing something wrong.
Ah! I think you maybe answered the question for me. I game almost exclusively with non-gamers rather than a game group. I actually can't see sitting down to specifically play Codenames with a group of "boardgamers" as like a main activity, so I get where you're coming from now.
I can really recommend trying Codenames with Dixit cards instead of the word cards, it is sooo much better. I always liked the idea behind Codenames, but it never worked in any of the groups where I played it, not until we switched and used image cards, then people got so much more into it.

Played this again last night and it never gets old. 2 player has so much strategy. I might look at the expansion.

Thank you.
04:11 - I believe that it should be "2-3-1-3"
(As at the bottom level filling order)
And not "2-1-3-3"
It looks like they've figured out how to turn a "cube pushing" game into something a bit more thematic! Seems interesting.
This is the best gateway game into Euro's IMO.
The core mechanism seems pretty unique. I like it.
does anyone know where Tom got those green storage boxes with the branches on his shelf?
Aaaaaaaand I just bought it. On sale on Amazon for $25! Looks like a GREAT two player game for those times you don't have 3 or 4.
Tom, your enthusiasm is terrible for my wallet.
Looks like we have three decent to good nominees this year.

WOW! This game looks awesome! This is an insta-buy for me! Thanks for the review, Tom!

Played yesterday. Liked it. Simple and fun.
Last week I bought Imhotep Duel, and yesterday I picked this one up as well.
How did you find them? I’m thinking of getting Imhotep
The card gaming store also carries a select collection of games to buy. They had both.
Bbluesound yes. But how did you find Imhotep? By that I mean, how did you find playing it? Was it good/bad/mediocre? Etc

Cleopatra and the Society of Architects meets Puerto Rico?
I breathed a sigh of relief, I also have high expectations for this game and I glad you approve.
Groovy. Already added this to my shopping list. Don't think it has a chance to win against the other games, but I love those cubes dammit! :D
This game is a hit at our home. Glad you love it too.
On to my wishlist it goes. Great review, Tom!
Just saw the nominees and was so happy that this just came out!! 😱🙌🏼
It wasn't a coincidence lol
Imhotep is still great! + Expansion!!
Thanks Tom! Did you play it with not so young players. My daughters are a "bit" older than yours. :)

Interesting, never played it but now it is available at bga. Will try your strategy there.

This should have gotten the Spiel, not the boring and dull Codenames.
Anyone think this has similarities to sushi go!?
tom, you're looking great! this game looks awesome too haha
Yep, this game is really good. Love it.
looks fun!
I say it beats codenames to win.
The general consensus is "if it's not Codenames, it'll be Karuba."
I will agree with that

Is that cover a jojo reference
Game looks great! Now I want to play Amun Re again.
Not "into my collection".
I noticed the same. heh I'm guessing it isn't special enough to bump something else that likely scratches a similar itch for him.
I think people can easily go broke watching your videos
Looks like graphic design from 2001.
Gregory Decoteaux Was surprised when I found out it was released on 2016... Thought it was a really old game.
I think you should start by saying the aim of the game.
He’s not trying to teach the game, just an overview. Main thing is his opinion about the game.
damn this game looks so boring.
It really, really is.
