The octatrack is perfect as a performance mixer/sampler with 2 tracker devices like polyend tracker or m8s - so you can easily sample one project on the fly while the tracker is loading the next project.
Hey! Thanks. The hat is a bit brighter than anticipated... For my main rack cases I have used the 2 door rack cases with 150mm Sleeve from SwanFlight in the UK - 9u or 6u. I got them custom made with the colourful PVC option. They aren't the cheapest, but they are also more affordable than a lot of dedicated Euro cases you will find. You do need to put in power and rails yourself. I was lazy and got the TipTop kits mostly. They are great. Nice and slim - perfect for modular! I do have a few other cases as well, like cheapo wooden 19" rack units etc for the sake of fitting in the space, but if I had my way they would all be the Swan dealios. They do sloped ones as well which are cool.
@@StephenMcLeod Thanks alot! I've gone through several iterations with my cases, from a very big DIY case to now 2 much smaller 104/7U DIYs, but your setup really appeals to me. Looked at the Doepfer-Cases, but they're both overpriced and underpowered. Will have a look at SwanFlight - and keep watching your vids. Thanks again!
@@StephenMcLeod ooh! Good! I get to turn someone on to new music. Check out Meat Beat Manifesto. Your jams were reminiscent of their mid/late 90s style. Total compliment btw.
I gave it 18 days before i sent it back...small brain impairment :) I would however buy an MKIII with proper fast USB , Overbridge and pads...we need pads..
@@StephenMcLeod that's great news, I wanted specifically an FM synth and this with the FATAR keybed and 8 outs is a godsend, getting ex demo for a pretty good price. Thx for the info.
The OT is a bit of a beast to learn. I sold mine as the Digitakt was plenty for me. The Digitone is very nice, pretty easy to learn if you like to experiment.
@@leftmono1016 yeah I like the quick hands on, I need some P locking for basic stuff, the FM and FATAR is the icing on the cake, 8 out is glorious as allows me to use this as a percussive bit of gear which covers drums nicely. I will now have enough gear for some really diverse bit of movement, especially with the 3rd Wave doing some sequencing externally with the motion sequencing, will be some fun times for sure.
Get the Ezbot performance template, or build it yourself, learn a lot and get a great machine for live resampling/mixing/mangling. One drum machine and one melodic device and you‘re good to go. I let my Octatrack go, as the sound quality (fx, repitch) are not up to todays standards and if you go away for one week you loose almost all your learning efforts.
It also took me 18 months to decide "today is the day I octatrack"
Good luck!!
Thank you 🙏 finally an explanation of the Octatrak I can grasp! I commend you sir. Now I need to sell a few kids
You can always make more kids!!

This is something I definitely need to try out, but haven't yet!
Maybe it's because my first piece was the Electribe 2 Sampler, but the OT felt instantly amazing right out the gate and I haven't looked back.
You are a rare breed!!
hey Stephen . Big fan of you and your channel! May I ask what flight cases you use for your Eurorack modules? Awesome hat mate ;-)

p.s. it looks the price of these have gone way up since I got mine. Eep.

Changed yer name have ye?! They are pretty awesome. I love it, and also hate it. Ha.
Jack Danger called… 😝
I must sadly admit that I do not get the reference.

Pads as in... velocity sensitive ones?
I'm getting a Digitone Keys on Wednesday, that has similar workflow right?
Similar but not as convoluted
