Your orders fine geezer 😂 just make sure you got wires running roughly where you want them and any other lights plug sockets etc before the wood and stuff goes back on 👌
Harry. I'm abit further than you into a conversion on a new shape trafic. I'm from the wirral aswell. Pop down and have a gander at what I'm doing so can let you see what sound deadening does and insulation for you. Can show you a fabworx rock and roll aswell. "Nice little touch isn't it"
Seriously pop down if you want too. I haven't carpeted yet so you can see what the insulation and vapour barrier looks like before I carpet it. Got a poptop aswell uncarpeted so you could see what it looks like when they cut roof
Hey Harry, just watching the vid and have some tips as I've just finished my T6 conversion: 1. Do the roof last because you will need to carpet behind it. 2. Insulate with Dodo matting/sound deadening. It's got self adhesive backing so easy to fit and really works (I got mine off Ebay). Put a full layer on the van floor, not too thick but will do the job. Celotex will be too thick. 4. The thing on the wheel arch is for the wheel Jack to secure too. 5. The rear bumper protective trims are about £70 on Ebay. Can get them carbon trimmed. 6. The rear clips for the ply lining are crap, carpet the full ply board and then self tapper to the skeleton of the van. The screws will blend in with the carpet. Hope that helps? J Louth
@@harrymain I'd go with 4 x 3 sq.m rolls which should be about £150, and it will be enough to do the van + double up on some of the bigger panels for extra insulation 👍🏻
Harry, 'you considered fitting a motor to the side-doors? I know it's not absolutely necessary but it would look pretty cool. Also, I wouldn't cut the windows in the back, with the exception of may be the window behind the driver but cutting to replace the others only to replace them with tints seems like a lot of work to replace what you already have.
Hey mate obviously the difference would be that you can still see through the tints! I just think it would be nice when driving a bus to be able to see behind et cetera
You're right but when I drive a Ford Transit Minibus, I remember relying on my mirrors a lot more than I thought i ever would and while it was nice and bright, the windows didn't make much of a difference. Either way it's going to look good and you could also consider adding the concealed window blinds?
should try and do one of them tables that can push down and turn into a bed space. little sofa seat one side so you can sit and use it as editing/dining space in the day, push the table down and sleeping space for night! seen them in plenty of older campers. probably a proper name for them but ive got no idea on that! got to have a nice tv on a crane arm too so you can kick back and watch the days riding in style!, building a camper is on my list of things to do aswell! just got to pick the right base first.
Harry do not just buy the foil, it wont be warm enough to sleep in. I would suggest insulation board as it will keep the van a lot warmer. Also don't rely on the insulation to sound deaden it, you can buy thin sheets of sound deadener that you only have to cover 30% of the panel and it works a dream. Just a few tips :)
Hi mate, loving the videos of the T6 so far. I’ve just done a day van T5.1 with full caravelle interior conversion. See my comment below for the process I did and some pointers. I did all mine DIY 😄. What I would do first is take the bulkhead brackets out. Best not using a grinder for anything due to the sparks flying off. It completely ruins paintwork. Use a reciprocating saw, nibbler or jigsaw. Nibbler is a great tool for van work!! Then decide if you want any windows in it. Camper glass is a great place to start. I did mine DIY and was easy to do, just take your time. Again, use one of the tools listed above. Next up, sound deadening. This one is a big one as it completely changes the drive of the van from a big boomy box to a quiet and comfortable van. Put sound deadening on every panel - it doesn’t need much. An A4 sheet will do most panels. Lots of people overdo this but you will know when it’s right as when you knock the panel it will sound really dull rather than tinny. Do this throughout the van - especially the sides and roof panels. Then get your flooring down. To do that you want to bond 9mm battons to the van floor between the ridges. Then put a 12mm (min) ply floor down on top. You can get these in 1 piece that makes it nice and neat. I’d leave the finish (vinyl) until later. Next I’d sort electrics. Decide if you want a leisure battery or not. If you do, you need a smart battery charger being a T6 as the alternators are different. These are quite expensive - circa £200-£300! Install an Electrical Hook Up (EHU) 240v supply if you want it. You want 2.5mm^2 3 core artic cable for this plus a double pole RCD with MCBs. This protects your van like the fuse board in your house protects your house. Also decide what electrical outlets you want (12v sockets, USB’s, 240v 3 pin plugs etc) and where you want them. Best to do this before you put the ply panels in as you can pre route the cables. Next up, insulation. You need to make sure you do this bit right as it can go horribly wrong and you can start rotting the van from the inside out! Go for something that doesn’t take on water. B&Q do a recycled bottle insulation that is great to use. Apply this directly the recessed panels and to all door voids using contact adhesive. Don’t be tempted to squash it as the more you squash it the more of its thermal properties you’ll lose. Once done, then apply a layer of foil reflectix or foil bubble wrap. Toolstation do it pretty cheap. Apply this over all voids to cover the recycled bottle insulation. What you are after doing with this is creating a vapour barrier that stops any warm air from inside the van (heat from you, breathing etc) passing through the insulation and condensation on the inner skin. If done properly you’ll have zero condensation inside the van panels as air cannot pass through the foil barrier. You can now carpet the sides of the van - carpeting all of the metal work. Use 4 way stretch as it is really forgiving. You can do each side in 1 full piece that makes it look neat with no nasty joins. Pretty easy to do but time consuming. Following this you’ve got ply panels to install. I’d buy new for this as the standard VW ones are crap hardboard. You can get a full set of pre-cut ones off eBay for £100ish. Saves cutting everything out by hand. You can then carpet these with 4 way stretch lining in whatever colour you like. Again, use contact adhesive to glue it to the ply panels. Personally, I would also buy 100 hidden clips as these look so much neater than the standard van clips. These allow you to fasten the ply panels to the van without anything shown on the outer face - nice, neat and a professional look. Next I’d fit the roof panel as it’s much easier to do once the side ply panels are in. Depends how you want to do it but best results are done with a single ply panel in my opinion. I’m in the process of doing mine with a galaxy/starry fabric and fitting 500 fibre optic lights that twinkle like stars. So much inspiration online for this! From here you can put the flooring down and fit the roof panels - whatever you choose. Make sure it’s durable though. I got an offcut of Polyflor oak vinyl - looks ace and only cost £40! Hope that makes sense. Loads more to it and some people may do it a different way but it all made sense to me. Enjoy!
B&Q do a recycled plastic insulation stuff (normally kept with the normal loft insulation) Use that for all the cavities and because its plastic its not meant to hold any condensation. For the rest I used this self adhesive foil foam from kiravans. Works really well.
The protective thing for the back bumper you mentioned is that just like a strip of sticky plastic to protect the bumper because if it is then you could just cut up a strip of the wrap to stick on as protection. You can cut it to size and stuff. Sick vid 🤘
I fitted my diesel night heater under my drivers seat - Got a chinese one with remote control and thermostat - Handy on a cold day out riding. The van can keep itself warm while you’re out
Hi Harry don’t know if you will see this but first off great content been watching your for a while. Second I make cabinets for campers and can help you out with everything else in there too done loads of conversions windows etc. I live in Liverpool too so get in touch if you need help with anything.
Loving the van vids. I converted my t5. Off the back of that I’ve now done about 10 others for mates and locals where I live. I have loads of photos and tips I can pass on if you need them.
Hyped to be watching the start of the T6 camper!! Put some sound deadening on the back panels before insulation, that will obviously quieten everything in the back. I used something called Dacron as regards to insulation, or another popular option is the rolls of recycled plastic from B&Q. (Don't use loft insulation)
Harry Main lol i know, just 30 minutes was abit long with a lot of talking 🤣 .. keep it up tho, aslong as your having fun aswell which it looks like you are
Oh yes and sound proof and vapour barrier, easy stuff to you lads, do insulate the floor, put buttons down on the floor and use roof insulation. We carpeted the board with the plastic pop reverts and carpet with 4 way carpet
Day van with a little trailer (camping trailer) for the bikes so you can put the frenchies in the back when your going on holiday or something and it look so cool
An idea for the bed so you can fit bikes in is raise the bed off the floor so you can take your front wheel off and slide the bike underneath and useful for storage aswell
My dad has a t6 camper van and has done many of them take all the panels out so you can put the split charge system under the seat and wire it all to that do the wiring first but think we’re your having everything and 100% foil backed bubble rap which is a Thurmal insulation on the roof and all panels before insulation if you want some picks message me back and I’ll get you some big fan cheers for the grate content dude 🤙
When you put the spoiler on protect your paint work with vinyl. Then bond to the vinyl saves a lot of hassle,if you change your mind later it's easy to remove vinyl but very hard to remove bond from paint work same with splitters/skirts ect.Good luck with your build.
If you put swivel chair in the van you should check and see if the bike/bikes fit between the dash and chair when rotated, cause if that's the case you can put a full size bed in the back like you wanted to at the start
Harry look at mega van mats they do hidden trim clips, you put them in the panels then carpet over the top then just push the whole panel in place, I've used them their so easy & really nice professional finish cos you can't see any clips they also do carpet & spray glue, insulation & loads of other bits you will need, just take your time & use quality parts it will look the nuts 👍
hey harry. ive just finished building my self build xlwb camper. the floor and ceiling does need insulating. Ive done all mine in the thermal foil and makes a huge difference. If you need a hand let me know mate
Use earth wool for the sides and stick it on with spray glue (house insulation) then for the floor use insulation you put under laminate flooring as the exhaust gets hot so what ever floor you put down will start to get hot/melt
First thing mate is to do all ur cutting first before u insulate the van also make shore u sheet up the cab as the sparks will leave burn Mark's on the windows. When I insulate a van I use a foil type bubble wrap ( spray glue on ) then a recycled plastic loft insulation as its does not hold the moisture like rot wool. If I was you I would line over the panels on the sides that you are not having windows as it look more clean. As regarding the poppers for the other food cards we use firtree type you can get then in different colours. The window cutting is not that bad as you can use the inside lip as a guide. Hope this helps mate. Love the channel
Hang the white board above the work bench so every time you go get a bolt, nut or tool other than gaz lol sorry mate 😂 you can see what you need to do. Loving the content recently it's fresh compared to others love it
Definitely insulate the roof, especially with a black van, will help keep the heat out. Also, I would recommend a single sofa that is length ways in a van, which can pull out into a double. This gives more storage, and you can fit bikes in next to the bed.
Depending on the height of the bike, you could have a full size bed but mount it closer to the ceiling of the van, then have the bikes underneath + storage.
Such a graceful entry into the video 😂😜 Look at you treating us with a 30min vid never get bored of your "crusty" self. Looking forward for whats to come 😍😉 xx
I work for VW commercial you can get full height grey hard board sheets for the rear instead of the half height you already have. The clips are called plastic pop rivets and which you can get in a dark grey/ anthracite colour which I have for my caddy which I'm in process of carpeting 👍
Good to see progress on getting the T6 ready for conversion. Lining and insulating the van will make a massive difference to road noise when driving. We're out in Morzine in July and driving over in a mates tricked out T6.
You want to use sound deadening on the rear wheel arches, floor and on as much of the single skin panels as you can reasonably do, then buy the water resistant blanket insulation you can put it behind the sides, roof and floor.
@@harrymain anything similar to Dynamat but you can buy much cheaper versions on ebay. Butyl backed foil sound deadening. Single coat will make all the difference but maybe double up on the rear wheel arches as they are very noisey on road.
An idea about the T6 inside,You could have the double bed at the back but then stop it half way,Then you can get the maxel holders where you basically take the front wheel off and the bike would go in side door with the front wheel off and you could fix 3/4 bikes,Also you could have storage underneath the bed as you said with clear boxes👍
www.bicyclehero.com/gb/delta-cycle-bike-hitch-15-20mm.html?fee=10&fep=55596&Ireland&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIqPL9hsqH4gIV7ZPtCh2yNA_GEAQYBCABEgKfNfD_BwE You put the front quick release in that and it keeps it mounted to the floor of the van,Very secure and saves alot of space🤙
insulate the roof as well because obviously hot air rises so if the roof isn't insulated then you'll have a very large section in direct contact with the hot air acting as a heat sink.
@@harrymain so far I've got a full width rock and roll bed bolted in. I had spreader plates and nuts welded to the underside of the van. This allows me to easily unbolt the bed from inside the van so I can whip the bed out and still use it as a van. Next up is insulation, but having watched you take your bulkhead out I'm really tempted to do that, it just opens it all up massively
Should set up a second battery kit. Uses the alternator to charge both Batterys and then put a inverter from 12DC to 240ac on the second battery. I use mine to charge my cameras/ laptop while traveling.
As you walk in on the left, make some shelves out of some Timber and osb left from the skatepark 6ft high and 6ft wide and 2ft depth, plenty of space and won't look cluttered
Check out Harrison trim supplies, they have nearly everything you'll need to carpet and insulate! I'd get sound proof also, makes a massive difference!
Sick video bro defo do that to insulate it my dad just done a t5 camper convention and he done that with the roof sides and floor then carpeted the ply and put it back on with them push pin rivets 👍🏻
Put Wooden beams along the walls and then buy loft insulation and put that in-between the beams, then put those wooden plywood walls back in and carpet them. Hope this is useful to you
Hey Harry that was a very SICK video and I think that once you take everything out you should put in the insulation first top and bottom and walls but if you are not sure you should try watching some TH-cam videos on how to do it probably
Harry, Caravelle triple seat on runners put in by a pro! Can then slide forward or backwards and fit tonnes of gear in and decent sized bed! Only way mate!!
windows are simple drill the corners and cut them with a jigsaw with a metal blade you can't really do them wrong make sure you buy primer for the window bond and buy the window kits that come with the panel edge trims they need to be fitted before the glass goes in really to give it a nice finish also do the carpet before binding the windows in its a much cleaner finish
U should defo put a Hilo pop top in it... Check them out you can hardly tell it's got one in it from the outside!!! You defo wouldn't regret it! Also in mine we carpeted the wood and put it back in
You need to sound deaden the van sides, floor and wheel arches with dynamat first, (stop drone/road noise)then insulate with an insulation made from recycled plastic bottles. (Available at B&Q/wickes)Don’t use normal loft insulation stuff because it will cause the condensation and the van will sweat, then finish it off with stick on bubble wrap foil and your carpeted boards. The van will quiet and toasty....travelinlite sell a stick on door seal for £20ish for the cab doors which will quieten the cab area massively when driving......we did these mods to our T5 day van, travelled all around Europe in it, never going to sell it.....The T6 is coming together now, keep up the great work.
You could have a full size permanent bed at the back of the van going across if you raised the bed up so then you could create a space so you can put bikes under the bed (mini garage)?
Those little clips are literally called Trim Clips - you can get them on eBay, 100 for about £10! I had to get some for my caddy, you can get long and short ones depending how thick your panels are✌🏼
Also, fold the front seats down so it's easier for you to climb through while it's in the mod shop. Our T6 doesn't have swivel seats, we just fold down the double seat and use it as a bench. Saves a fortune, and you keep under seat storage
Yoo tbh I only put that to try and get your attention I didnt think you'd acc reply, if you see this one I've been watching you for time and I rate the mod shop vids 11/10
Use vinyl for The flooring so you can clean it easy that’s what I did and it works way better than when I had carpet because the carpet gets muddy from the bikes
Hey guys, lovin’ the MOD Squad content right now!! 🔥🔥🔥 I have noticed you use your standard Ryobi One+ drills for a lot of stuff, including your normal drills with the Torsion heads on, I’ve recently bought the Ryobi 3 Speed Impact Wrench which would be perfect for all your mod squad stuff. Works on the One+ batteries and will also prolong the life of your other drills. Not expensive either off of Amazon.
hey there, you should use Dyna mat for sound deading the bare panels on the van. its the same material as what they use on car hi-fi installations. Or one similar.
Dont forget to get an extractor fan for the T6 Manper van. A company call fantastic fans make good ones as far as i know. Keep up the vehical mod videos boss!!!!
The problem with windows in a camper is the light coming through cracks in the curtains in the morning. I would leave out the windows and add a few roof vents, and maybe a venting sunroof.
May have been a wait for another car video but I already know it's going to be a madness, the videos are always the best 🤙 Harry's making mad moves to succeed lately 💪

@@harrymain I'd go with 4 x 3 sq.m rolls which should be about £150, and it will be enough to do the van + double up on some of the bigger panels for extra insulation 👍🏻

Really loving your content Harry and Gaz..... I am a DH racer... AND car nut.... So you guys are mad relevant!
Thatsnso sick!!!!
If you put swivel chair in the van you should check and see if the bike/bikes fit between the dash and chair when rotated, cause if that's the case you can put a full size bed in the back like you wanted to at the start
Possible!!!!!
You're VW is going to be the ultimate MTB transporting shag waggon. If the T6 is rocking don't come knocking :)
Ha ha my g!
Spray foam is a good thing to insulate the van and the plywood is to stop condensation so you will need to supplement it
Ok fair!!! ❤️❤️
Been waiting for a uploads so glad it's here
YO!!!!! thanks for watching!!!
Trim panel clips for Vw t5 get the extra long ones as your gonna carpet the panels which makes it thicker
Okay yes sounds great thanks for the help
hey harry. ive just finished building my self build xlwb camper. the floor and ceiling does need insulating.
Mega man!!! That’s sick!!!
Going to look amazing cant wait to see it 🔥💥👌
So so hyped 😻😻😻😻
Hang the white board above the work bench so every time you go get a bolt, nut or tool other than gaz lol sorry mate 😂 you can see what you need to do. Loving the content recently it's fresh compared to others love it
Definitely insulate the roof, especially with a black van, will help keep the heat out. Also, I would recommend a single sofa that is length ways in a van, which can pull out into a double. This gives more storage, and you can fit bikes in next to the bed.
Yeh truth!!! Sick idea man!
No probs Harry I dont know if the seat will lock in those positions but I think it’s a cool idea👍👍👍
Depending on the height of the bike, you could have a full size bed but mount it closer to the ceiling of the van, then have the bikes underneath + storage.
Yessssss!!!!!
Mega van matts for the 4 way stretch carpet that’s the stuff to use Ive done 2 vans now perfect stuff
Okay great did you find it was quite easy to use?
It’s tricky but take your time and plenty of spray glue on both surfaces
Such a graceful entry into the video 😂😜
Look at you treating us with a 30min vid never get bored of your "crusty" self. Looking forward for whats to come 😍😉 xx
Hahahahah sickest!!!
So sick dude!!!!
You want to use sound deadening on the rear wheel arches, floor and on as much of the single skin panels as you can reasonably do, then buy the water resistant blanket insulation you can put it behind the sides, roof and floor.
Ok cool man what sound dead stuff would you recommend ??!
@@harrymain anything similar to Dynamat but you can buy much cheaper versions on ebay. Butyl backed foil sound deadening. Single coat will make all the difference but maybe double up on the rear wheel arches as they are very noisey on road.
It's called silent coat.
Oh right never seen them? Any links ? Would be mad if bike fits that way

You put the front quick release in that and it keeps it mounted to the floor of the van,Very secure and saves alot of space🤙
insulate the roof as well because obviously hot air rises so if the roof isn't insulated then you'll have a very large section in direct contact with the hot air acting as a heat sink.
Yeh man deffo!!!!
This is the stuff I've been waiting for. Im doing a day van myself in an old vivaro
That’s really cool what’s the plans for the project?
@@harrymain so far I've got a full width rock and roll bed bolted in.
I had spreader plates and nuts welded to the underside of the van. This allows me to easily unbolt the bed from inside the van so I can whip the bed out and still use it as a van.
Next up is insulation, but having watched you take your bulkhead out I'm really tempted to do that, it just opens it all up massively
Should set up a second battery kit. Uses the alternator to charge both Batterys and then put a inverter from 12DC to 240ac on the second battery. I use mine to charge my cameras/ laptop while traveling.
Yeh I had a leisure battery once they are great!!!
As you walk in on the left, make some shelves out of some Timber and osb left from the skatepark 6ft high and 6ft wide and 2ft depth, plenty of space and won't look cluttered
When you insulate it use expanding foam to get in the little gaps and areas will help out abit and noice
Mega man!!!
That’s sick!!!!
Put Wooden beams along the walls and then buy loft insulation and put that in-between the beams, then put those wooden plywood walls back in and carpet them. Hope this is useful to you
Mega man
You can get like vibration tape you just tape on to the panels and it stops it from being so loud its really good stuff and cheap
Hey Harry that was a very SICK video and I think that once you take everything out you should put in the insulation first top and bottom and walls but if you are not sure you should try watching some TH-cam videos on how to do it probably
Mega man!!
Harry,
Caravelle triple seat on runners put in by a pro!
Can then slide forward or backwards and fit tonnes of gear in and decent sized bed! Only way mate!!
Harry you’re actually a really good singer 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I'd suggest Dynamat for the inside of the van, gets rid of any tinny sound and will get rid of alot of the road noise whilst driving from the back
Ace!!!
I'd defiantly put Dynamat everywhere you can fit it in the back to make it as quiet as possible. (Including the floor)
Okay fantastic mate
The longer the videos, the better! Can’t wait for more on the mini & golf. 🤙🏻
Yessssss dude!!!!!!
windows are simple drill the corners and cut them with a jigsaw with a metal blade you can't really do them wrong make sure you buy primer for the window bond and buy the window kits that come with the panel edge trims they need to be fitted before the glass goes in really to give it a nice finish also do the carpet before binding the windows in its a much cleaner finish
So so sick!!!!
Been thoroughly enjoying the new vids! Lovin the nomad and car content!!🤙🤙
That is awesome mate thanks a lot for the support glad you are enjoying the videos mate
You came up on my recommended because I have been looking at Santa Cruz, I am saving up for the Bronson.
Love the videos and love the 40s on the bike🤟
That’s awesome !!!!
Should definitely check the simple track samplers van build. The bed half way up the wall and bikes underneath then you can take all your bikes.
Yeh man that’s sick that is what I’ll do deffo
The Mod Squad Gods are shining 😀👍🏼
Harry I’ve been here since Harrymaina and I’m so glad to see your diy videos BMX videos mountain bike videos and now my favourite the mod shop videos
That’s so sikc my g!!!
U should defo put a Hilo pop top in it... Check them out you can hardly tell it's got one in it from the outside!!! You defo wouldn't regret it! Also in mine we carpeted the wood and put it back in
That’s really awesome mate I have seen them they are really really cool
That’s sick!!! Thansk a lot !! Enjoy the t5!!
Harry i work on motorhomes everyday so i think your method is pretty good. So any help you need i can always give ua advice.
That’s sick man thanks a lot !!!!
@@harrymain currently got a t6 in the workshop but it dont have the barn doors like yours.
You could have a full size permanent bed at the back of the van going across if you raised the bed up so then you could create a space so you can put bikes under the bed (mini garage)?
Yeh that would be sick tbh!
I’ve seen people do it before and it’s easier than it sounds
Those little clips are literally called Trim Clips - you can get them on eBay, 100 for about £10! I had to get some for my caddy, you can get long and short ones depending how thick your panels are✌🏼
Thought the order sounded great and can’t wait for more
Hey mate thanks a lot for the support really excited to start the project again today
Also, fold the front seats down so it's easier for you to climb through while it's in the mod shop. Our T6 doesn't have swivel seats, we just fold down the double seat and use it as a bench. Saves a fortune, and you keep under seat storage
The mod shop intro is sick, I think you should get a pet or something like a gold fish for the mod shop to add ultimate steeze to the place
Hahahaha too much!!! It’ll die
Fair!!!!!
THE BEAST
The beast!!!!
Put some ribs up in the ceiling of the modshop. That way you can put some larger stuff up there. Like the interior/sidepanels of the T6.
Decide on what electronic outputs you want in the back of the van (USB 12V etc) and run all the wires first so it's all tucked behind the panels
Yeh totally agree!!
Hey man yes great ideas and Fairpoint thanks a lot
Love ur vids pal can’t wait for more on t5 keep up the good work.
May have been a wait for another car video but I already know it's going to be a madness, the videos are always the best 🤙 Harry's making mad moves to succeed lately 💪
Loving the videos harry
Thanks so much bro!!!
