I had always heard that, in the Grimms' first version of this tale, it was Snow White's own mother who tried to kill her. Apparently, for a later revision, the Grimms changed it to a stepmother, as they were afraid children might be traumatised by the idea that their own mother could want to kill them. Of course, the unintended consequence of this change is that stepmothers have acquired a reputation for wickedness. I have tried to find the original version, but could never locate a version in English. This is the first time I have experienced the original tale. Thank you so much!

Thought the same.. but she’s very young in this version. Mom’s jealousy started when Little Snow White was 7. Seven seems to run through this tale. Disney turned her into a teenager.
Her real mom trying to kill her is disturbing.

Yes! original version was her bio mom trying to kill her. Sadly, young mothers were to often jealous of their own daughters. It’s no wonder girls were married off so young (12) back in the day.
Historical Note: first few death penalty cases in the US were women charged with murder. One murdered her young daughter. The others, the court didn’t even pen who they killed… possibly own children or infants?. All were hung. Disney gave Stepmom’s a bad rap. Peace.

I also like this original ending of the fairy tale better with the Prince offered to care for the 7 Dwarfs like his family friends in return to letting him take Snowdrop home with him and one of his servants tripping over a root, which causes the leftover piece of the Poisoned half of the apple to come out of Snowdrop's digestion system, which revives her for good.
This is super cool new addition can’t wait to see more. And considering I personally have never seen these kinds of videos on TH-cam before this is new to me.

Well if you ask me, I think I like this original Fairy Tale of Little Snowdrop and the 7 Dwarfs a lot better with the 1st Queen being fair and lovely inside and out until she died after Snowdrop was born and before the 1st King married again to the 2nd Queen, who's evil inside and out.

@@scr1231 Ya these were originally gathered from local folklore and published verbatim for children back in the early 19th century, but after a few years, the publishers decided that they were far too dark, so they had the Grimm's rewrite them all to be tamed down. The rerelease published in the mid 19th century is the edited version that is pretty much the Disney versions.
Thank you for this beautifully done read! I wonder if you would consider doing Perrault's original version of Sleeping Beauty? There is a whole section that takes place AFTER the wedding, involving the Prince's wicked mother. Anyway, you have certainly earned yourself a like and a subscriber! Thank you!
