    Repeaters assume same band installation with adequate isolation. Cross-band repeating is quite different, and should be referred to by its proper name.

    • @stephenplatt5048

      Donald, I see your question is over a year old; thought I'd attempt an answer. I haven't tried this yet, only DMR-FM, which works fine. It's my understanding that DMR repeat can be done; one side has to be TS1; the other side has to be TS2. Have you tried it? If so, what that what you did? 73, Steve KC4JGC.

    Crossband repeat is a cool feature, use it alot for remote base operation. Would be nice to demonstrate crossband repeat function in diigital mode or digital to analog if possible.

    • @stephenplatt5048
      @stephenplatt5048 ปีที่แล้ว

      Earlier this year, I actually did an analog-digital crossband repeat for self-demonstration purposes. While spending the night at a truck stop near Richmond, Indiana, I had my AT D868UV HT on DMR UHF simplex (CC1 TS1 TG99) with the '578 crossbanding to an FM repeater also near Richmond. I did have a QSO with another operator via the FM repeater; said my audio was good. His audio sounded good as well. As far as crossband full digital, I haven't tried that yet. I have heard that while doing crossband DMR one band has to be using TS1; the other band has to be TS2.
      One more thing: if you have a 220 HT or mobile, you can crossband from 220 MHz to UHF **ONLY!**. Because transmit 220MHz is using the 2m finals (reason why it's only 5w as well), the '578 cannot crossband 220-2m. 73, Steve KC4JGC.

    Does the Anytone D878UVII also have this? I noticed something in the CPS related to a repeater in the optional setting menu, but never messed with it.

    • @benjaminpugh53
      @benjaminpugh53 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Crossband repeat is something you'll only find on a mobile like the 578. It wouldn't make sense for an HT to have this as you wouldn't gain any additional transmit power.

    • @falsedragon33
      @falsedragon33 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Most decent handhelds have cross-band repeat. I disagree that it isn't useful. Location is far more important than power. a ht on a tripod, sitting on top of a hill works wonders.

    I am new to radios but I want to build a repeater. I have been watching many DIY videos but this is the first that used 2 handhelds, 1 to transmit and 1 to receive. Do you have a repeater video build that uses 2 radios for the repeater and a single handheld to send and receive?

    Would you be able to transmit on the 578 when its in repeater mode? planning on using this in a rural environment that would need to have the options of using as a base station as well as repeating the way you set up in the video, but also be operable on the radio

    what is the coverage rang of this repeater

    • @BridgeComSystemsInc
      @BridgeComSystemsInc  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Coverage range depends on Elevation and power output of the repeater so it varies on a case by case basis

    How many distance/how far will this repeater cover?

    • @BridgeComSystemsInc
      @BridgeComSystemsInc  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for your question. This is hard to answer as there are many things that affect radio coverage area. This depends mostly on line-of-sight or simply where the antenna of the transceiver is located. Think of being in a car listening to the radio and you're traveling away from station. Eventually, you'll lose the station. Same thing here. It's a function of line-of-sight and Transmit power. The higher the antenna and the most power will get you a long way.

      Thank you very much for your details and clear answer.

    • @falsedragon33
      @falsedragon33 ปีที่แล้ว

      Both VHF and UHF waves can travel thousands of miles if unobstructed. My farthest UHF contact is 6300 miles away, bouncing off of the green cube satellite. Ground clutter and the curvature of the earth limit you on the ground. So that will depend on where you're at, not what radio you use. For further study, look into concepts like free space loss.

    • @falsedragon33
      @falsedragon33 ปีที่แล้ว

      The most common, and probably the easiest way to achieve this is with an MMDVM board that can control two radios. At this point, the Anytone radios are not good enough and quite a bit more expensive than used Motorolas. Then you need filtering to isolate the tx and Rx frequencies.

  • @jerryescalante2823
    @jerryescalante2823 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I do not understand how the 578 was programmed with the 2 meter frequencies and the HT's were programmed with 440 frequencies and the HT's were able to go through the 578. I would think the HT's would have to be set to the repeater frequencies. Please explain. Thank you.

    • @davidrhightower
      @davidrhightower 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is a cross band repeat. So it uses vhf for tx and uhf for the rx or vice versa. This is usually done out in the field where the HT can’t hit the local repeater so it goes through the mobile as it has more power and a better antenna to hit the repeater. You could do it as he did as a temporary repeater in the field without it going to an actual repeater.
