I’m 64 and was a DM/player back in the mid and late 70’s. I’m a life-long gamer since the age of seven and started playing strategy games alone because no one in rural Mississippi knew what they were. At eighteen, I was living in California and DnD was huge. Over the years, I’ve kept up with the game, seen all the arguments for and against play styles, etc. but wanted to say that after watching this particular video, how you played here-the tone, vibe, rulings, and all-is indistinguishable from how we were playing in ‘77 and ‘78. Literally would not even have noticed it was 5E. It’s pretty rare for me to have the time to watch a full run, but it was hysterical. Great job. Like your new haircut too, btw.
I’m at work for another 5 hours so this is a life saver my friends. Thanks so much for letting me tune into your adventures, I’ve been having a tough time lately and you guys always offer me some much needed laughs and smiles. Thanks a million
I really enjoyed the story that developed here and I feel like even though almost the whole party died that this wasn't a failed experiment in running a level one dungeon delve. The fallen party members can be honored in future adventures by the light of Lathander!
Thank you for these videos; these videos have inspired me to pick up being a dungeon master again. I was really having a hard time being motivated, but you all really make me want to play the game some more.
While I do love the edited versions of these the VODs are also very nice to have access to. I think I just like the sitcom style editing you do for the ones on XPto3
I can tell by the title that the next dungeon Delve is likely to be the Continuation of this module, but I'm very curious where it'll go after that-my hope would be Princes of the Apocalypse, because that's the module that I started DMing with and that got my gaming group together, but I somewhat suspect that it'd be too long to do in this format...
I'm actually running this this weekend for my kids. In 5e. I've run it in 3e, and tried to run it in 3 5 for my kids and that was a disaster, partially cuz trying to run a big combat theater of the mind with the players being completely ignorant of the rules, and partly because one player was playing a Kobold, so she rage quit when a fight broke out with the kobolds.
I jumped from the abbreviated version of the video as soon as a saw this was available. The Sunless Citadel was my first ever DnD experience. Give me that nitty gritty!
I love the division between Steven lovers and haters 😂 gotta say I appreciate diversity between the characters with serious and silly, and clearly the players are fine with the silly
i am kinda confused why they dont screenrecord the map, its a TV screen after all thats connected to a laptop. Setting this up in Streamlabs (or what ever they use) takes less then 2 minutes. Would make it way better for a viewer. No blame there but i hope they do one day.
I don't like XP. Look at how the players are influenced in immersion-damaging ways by the fact that NPC's share party XP. Would they even consider sending that NPC back to their home if it wasn't for the XP issue? No, they wouldn't, because why would you turn down a bit of free help? As for potentially sending them back because of the treasure rewards, I can see a potential actual adventuring party doing that. (If the RPG system is more tightly woven into the narrative, then this issue kinda goes away as it becomes a true in-universe issue and no longer messes with immersion.)
I can somewhat agree with ya on that. I think the XP system of Baldur's Gate 3 works better as it is still XP based gameplay, but everyone gets the same amount for quests while small gifts of individual XP are given based off of character related things (ex: inspiration based on backgrounds).
@@letirthespirit2801 BG3 is also a single player video game (with a coop multiplayer mode), so the way you immerse yourself in it tends to be different than a TTRPG. XP makes way more sense than milestone in a video game.
I'd argue the way it's split also doesn't even make sense. Why is it split evenly based on the amount of combatants on YOUR side. In a more cynical look you get more xp if your party dies... Not to mention it's unfair for a character that used up all their spell slots to get that same amount of xp as someone who did one mele attack.
Lol characters made mistakes and died. Nothing new, has nothing to do with being level one. Party was doing just fine prior to this. Should've leave the wyrmling alone until they were at least level two, or maybe formulate a plan to mitigate it.
What mistake? They were doing the module verbatim. It was part of the campaign. There was no diplomacy option, it says the dragon attacks on sight. Nothing a Level 1 could have done to prevent an 8d6 cold dragon breath from killing them except sheer luck. It’s complete bullshit as a Level 1 module and even if the intent was for them to grind rats and goblins first that’s STILL bullshit
@@ArmoredChocoboLPs 5d8*. The mistake to try to brute force it? I'm not surprised at all that persuading a chromatic dragon wouldn't work tbh. If diplomacy doesnt work in a scenario like this, run. Simple as that. Then maybe comeback later, with a solid strategy, and at level 2 or 3. Maybe play the ally to some goblin to try to distract it while the party lands the drop on the thing. It aint rocket science.
Other than metagaming, or making characters that are extremely paranoid (in which case they shouldn't even be trying to explore this place in the first place until they're at least level 5), what could they have actually done to approach this better? I wanna hear your suggestions. And no, your previous suggestion of "run" doesn't work, because when exactly did they have time to run? The dragon used her breath the moment she had her first turn! Which means unavoidable dead characters! And dragons, including the white ones, are fast. This thing has a 60ft fly speed. What if she pursues? Which the characters would have reason to believe she would, seeing as she said she wanted their treasure? (I mean, it seems she didn't, but the characters couldn't have known that.) Plus, how exactly were the kobolds keeping her contained when she can just blast a 5d8 half-on-save cold damage cone? This is immersion-breaking on top of being blatantly unfair.
@@theuncalledfor I never said the dungeon doesn't have issues. I just said playing it at level 1 is not the problem here. They could've been more cautious idk. Send the rogue to sneak into it to gather info, maybe? Jacob just called for a gotcha initiative is rolled moment here, but he could've just manage it differently, "you see the wings of the dragon behind the table", "after diplomacy attempt, the dragon doesnt budge, and if you don't get out of here now, initiative is rolled". They were able to talk to her before her turn. They all had turns before her too so they could very well run. Take into consideration too that even level 1 characters can deal almost the same amount of damage as a level 4 character does. Guiding bolt is 4d6 with extra effect, chromatic orb is 3d8, catapult is 3d8, Dissonant whip is 3d6 with extra effect... Yes, at level one, in a void, without any sort of context, this encounter is very deadly. But that's not how dnd is. I had a level 3 party of 3 pcs acompanied by a weak npc (1/4 cr) and they were able to defeat a young green dragon with pure tactics and a solid plan. Two of them almost died, sure. But they succeeded.
God i HATE characters like Steven. My group had a player like who kept messing around and finding out which ended up ruining the backstory and home brewd country off one of our other players.
Yeah, joke characters can be fun or hella annoying and I think if you want to play one like that maybe talk with your party? If your character is gonna be combative with the party or unhelpful, or weak for the fun of it let others know they have half a teammate instead of one.
There's a character like that in a campaign I'm playing and I literally nicknamed them "Rabies" because they're just a menace. We can't split up in game, so they keep derailing the party because the character doesn't agree with everyone else. It's not fun in the end 😮💨 The stakes are bigger but imagine if everyone wanted ice cream they'd yell that the shop can't be trusted and then set it on fire. By the nature of the game we have a terrorist on our team that controls the narrative 😅

I watched on both channels to maximize the revenue and algorithm
This is the way.
I’m doing my part! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
a true hero
Yes indeed
Same here
I love watching everyone play. Between the crocheting and the three slips of paper and a phone, it's interesting to see how different people play.

Agreed, it's one of the few, not mentally taxing positive things on YT 😅
It's Always Sunny in the Citadel
The Gang Chills Out
It’s Always Sunless in the Citadelphia.
I'm so glad this'll have a second part
Im sad that nobody caught meepo not getting advantage from guiding bolt 3:31:13 there could have been a chance
Jacob can we get another roll for a chance at Meepo surviving
"Maybe this can be de Canon Dungeon Delvers"
Boy oh boy. Didn't aged well... We lost the golden group

Oh, Steven is in this?
Thank you for these videos; these videos have inspired me to pick up being a dungeon master again. I was really having a hard time being motivated, but you all really make me want to play the game some more.

OMG Gal canonically IS Guy's sister who died to a dragon 🤯🤯🤯
AND SHE LIVED!!!
Self-fulfilling prophecy
You are such lovely and good-natured people and players. I've followed your stuff for years, and enjoyed every minute.
Looking forward to the reinforcements being a party of Kobolds
YO I AM BEYOND HYPE TO LISTEN TO THESE AT WORK TOMORROW
00:09:45 "Are we past the 10 minute mark?"
Feels like intentional resistance.
Emma reminds me so much of my baby sister, I get so much joy from watching her in these lol
"Don't cry for me Argent" destroyed me.
can't wait for part 2 :D
I love these videos so much, great work y'all
Please Lathander let one of the new characters be 1 of the goblins that escaped.
Dungeon Delve 🙌🙌
Hey my brother lives in Oakhurst!
I heard about this episode from the lounge, I'm so glad I decided to watch it
1:32:24 "Press" is their surname, they are all siblings.
2:34:50 What?! Mipo was literally the Dragon Keeper of his tribe!
He is KILLING it with that voice and role play. Bra-frickin-vo
This was so good, i loved your vibes/energy! Cant wait for more 😊 (didnt Meepo get advantage bc he attacked after Argent btw?)
Im running this adventure this weekend and I created a Calcryx that is a mesh of 3e and 5e. Honestly cant wait to run it.

Rewatching this gold in video format
oh the great blessing of the long form content 🙏✨✨
This is my favorite group of delvers, without a doubt.
i love this series so so much
Great fun thank you everyone
Ah yes, the infamous trophy room encounter. There is a reason Dms are recommended to milestone level the party to 2 before that.
Stephen reminds me of a grown-up Nugget (GTLive.) I love him.
*face pressed against the glass, waiting for part 2*
Pepper rocking the Girby shirt
Why did he call craig pepper?
And I have to mention my cat is fascinated by you for some reason.
Very funny how many fallout gameplay rules discussion had to be edited out for the final version haha
the cold never bothered me anyways
Meepo Nooooooo! That was an epic episode keep it up!
Good luck!
Now I feel like an idiot. When I ran this for my players I pronounced the dragons name as Karl-Cracks
Emma/Steven sounds exactly like Sargent colon in the audio books of disc world read by Stephen briggs
Did Meepo roll with Advantage from guiding bolt?! Retcon The death of Meepo!!!

Fun fact, I grew up in Oakhurst, New Jersey.

3.0, not 3.5. I believe it was the first non-platest, non-preview official module for 3.0.
This is would be a good setting for baby of darkness 😂
Where is part 2?
Its pretty hard to watch this with Mysphonia and someone chewing gum in the mic :(
Nice starting adventure, with a creature that can do 36 dmg as an AoE.
Not even a Barb with max HP could survive that lol
*Spoiler*
I thought he was going to Gandalf the dragon on the catwalk and send them both into the abyss. 😅
That was pretty epic 😎
the amount of fiddling with this vtt drove me up the wall
