I can’t believe this actually worked! It only took a few minutes, it was an old case so I had to use the string and feel method and voila! Pop opened. Had that damn case for two years now and finally got the lock open. Got the empty case from a garage sale for $10 because they didn’t know the code. But I managed to pry the pins out to open it but never knew the code. With this video found out after two years it was 5-1-7! Now I can use this case with the lock. Thanks man!
got it within 10 seconds. i don’t usually like or comment on videos but you helped me open my grandpas guitar he left me, thanks for the video man. you are appreciated.
Nice video. As a locksmith I can tell you what you did was very clean and professional. It takes longer to do it that way but it doesn’t do any damage. As I always say locks keep honest people honest.
My husband just died tragically. We had to plan everything in 3 days. I wanted to use his guitar at the service and was crushed when I saw the lock. This video saved me. I can't thank you enough
Very interesting. It seems pretty similar to picking a typical key lock. The paper acts as the tension wrench and going through the numbers is like scrubbing the tumblers.
Thanks, I just ran across a 2000's Gibson USA case with the latch removed. With your help I reset the combo and reattached the latch, Perfect, good as new!😁
Just went to some guys apartment and took some stuff he didnt need..... Saw some case like this and since the guy didnt tell me what the combo was I had to look up on yt and found this... Just subbed tnx
On the 90s cases I found it easier pushing the lock button to the right. As if you were wanting to reset it. Then rolling the numbers the the same way you did on your demonstration.
This will make you smile. After watching this video, I thought I'd better set the lock combination on my 2004 Les Paul to OOO, as I bought it recently and don't know the combination. Well, would you believe it, the numbers had moved and I couldn't open the case. I used the method you described, with the piece of paper, it worked great. All sorted. Many thanks. Perfectly timed video.
Trogly's to the rescue !! I picked up a late 90's Les Paul yesterday. The case was locked in the open position I tried to be gentle but couldn't get it to budge. I was just about to Go to town on it when I thought "What would Trogly do"? Found this video and fixed damage free.. It took longer to fold the paper than to pick the lock haha Love you videos and share your links when ever I can Cheers
I bought a sg from guitar center and they locked it in the case and didn't know the combination. They made me wait in the store for hours while they tried to unlock it.
What we learned: dont lock guitar cases unless its so children dont get into it, if someone is gonna steal a guitar they will steal the case aswell just like you said. Thanks papa trogly!

This was the only thing stopping me from stealing Gibson guitars - now time to go on that crime spree I've been planning! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
I can't believe it but this worked! I bought a used SG Standard, circa 2005, and the combo lock was a bit damaged from having been pried open. I looked into replacing it but decided to try and fix it, so I had to figure out what the combo was the original owner had forgot. I used this paper loop technique and it took about 15-20 min to persuade the tumblers to move but they did. The combo was 0-7-3. The hasp was a bit bent upwards so I took a flathead screwdriver and gently tapped it down till it was more or less where it was supposed to be, then I used the flathead to push down the dent in the lock housing so it was flat. I reset the combo to 0-0-0, used a drop of 3 in 1 oil and it works like new. Yeah I tested the combo to see it it would stay locked if i jumbled the tumblers and unlock when set to 0-0-0. I didn't want to have to mess around with separating the padding from the case to get to the rivets to replace the unit. I love when I fix things! Thanks Trogly for this lockpicking video, you helped me out ;-)
Looking forward to trying this! My les paul has been on a stand for years and I've never even used the case. Theirs no chance I remember the combination!
Exactly what i needed to know..ive had a 79 lp custom since it was new and never had a decent case for it..i do a lot of business at a pawn shop they sold me one last month like mint for 25 bucks .still had the plastic pln that locks the numbers in the lock..
Thank`s. My lock has been locked since 1994, today i finally opened it ;-) Although I had access to the guitar all along.. Just unscrewed the top part.
Hello...Watched your video..wish i would have found this before i had to open my sons new trombone combo lock. I was able to get one side open by using the combo he almost remembered...It popped open....On the other side, I ended up having to take a small needle like stainless steel rod that was bent into a 90degs... sliding it under the latch rotating it 90deg so the needle-point was facing down and coming into contact with the lip on the lock. I pushed it IN towards the tumblers and it popped open. HOWEVER - Once i got it open I reset the lock the way the directions said to (like you showed in video) I proceeded to do the same to the other side but the NOW the slides on BOTH didn't seem to want to slide back nice and easy and the travel on the lip wasn't going back much at all enough to clear the latch and letting it pop open....I left the trombone outside the case to test...and the it took a lot of pulling force to make them pop open at all 000....SO while it was latched I re-did the combo by sliding button IN and resetting the combo to 111 while the latch was locked....nothing i did would not slide the lip on the lock free...I ended up having to really pull the slide button back before it pops the lock open....but NOW you can't use your fingers to easily open the lock..you have to now use a small screw driver to help pull the button back enough to let the latch pop free.....WHAT on EARTH happened to my lock? would you happen to know WHY now the latch button is so hard to pull back? All i did was reset the lock once while the latch was open and once while it was locked (because it wouldn't open while it was latched after setting to 000) ...If these is no way to fix this...is there any way to replace the entire lock pad? I will assume in order to do it, you have to totally dismantle the inside padding and drill the 4 brass dome rivits out and now we're talking $$$... Any help would be great...
Trogly's methods would not work on my 1990 335 case (I tried over two months!!), but the following worked quickly!! From Gibson… If the combination was somehow changed (or you have forgotten it), try shining a flashlight into the spaces where the thumbwheels turn. As you rotate the wheel, you'll see a small notch once it gets to the correct number. Line up all three thumbwheels in this way, and it should open. As I said, this worked in seconds on my old case. Hope this helps someone else. Now I've got to re-rivet the latch back on (that the previous owner removed). 🙂 Happy days.
Thanks!!!! Finally I can put the lock back on my 90s case. For all the brainless comments: If somebody wants to steal you guitar, he will simply grab it with the case.
