FEEDING DURING THE RACE WEEK The young birds will receive a mixture of corn and many small seeds, safflower, and barley. The feed is proportioned premium 22 and 1/3 small seed mixture, 1/3 safflower, 1/3 barley. Young birds can eat all they wish until about 1/2 of the birds go to drink or they leave barley. then, feeding stops. There are solid floors in the race loft. Young birds are fed in the entry hallway that was mentioned earlier. The floor is carefully but quickly scraped and swept. Young birds are fed on the floor one hand full of feed at a time. With this method of feeding, racers become very tame. Also, you can observe even the smallest idiosyncrasy of each bird every day. KEY POINT: It is difficult to effectively race wild young birds that are unfamiliar to you. Feed once a day after training.
good day im from Philippines, and unfortunately we dont have barley in our place or even in online shop.. any alternative for the barley sir? im a new fan..hope u answer me thank you.
nice vid ! been trying this feeding style in my loft ! how about trapping video ? i find that they wouldn’t really go inside right away because they’re a bit over fed? i have a small loft so i wait till they drink or leave out barley but they’ll eat a lot
i excercise the race team monday-thursday. usually a couple short road tosses tueday and thursday. or 1 long one wednesday. if it rains i feed a bit less but use same mixture.
I like that the feed is sprinkled on a floor that is only swept, not washed Because the birds are getting a little poop dust with the grains to build their immune systems . Was thus a conscious, intended strategy?
Nice video Jeff. Thanks for the different options you showed on mixes. Look forward to the old bird feeding video.

Great video! I might have missed it, but how many times per day do you feed them like this during the race season?
Thank you! Once per day when training is done. I let them rest for an hour or so then feed as you see in the video.
Gray video!
