I love what Lav says about cinema being more than a 'market' and an 'industry'. 'Cinema and art is culture, so why reduce it to just two hours', at the behest of some 'market' or studio out there. I agree with this entirely. Even though there is still a time and a place for more condensed cinematic entertainment, cinema is also about culture and this shouldn't have to be controlled or condensed unnecessarily.
Composition, Dialogue at Cinematography. Napakaganda po.
I have been watching from what is before in parts recently, and wow I love what this man does. Characters feel completely fleshed out in singular shots. Every shot feels like a puzzle of questions and God I love it. I'll probably buy norte to support him and his films
The best you will get is his very first film. It’s an action movie, other then that he isn’t going to return to that. He has found his footing in this kind of cinema.
@@CannibalWHORE22 Since many of his films are over 4 hours, I really wonder what he could do with a big budget action/adventure epic with such mammoth length.
Hello. Thank you for the share. I want to add subtitle in my native language for the conversation. But I can't. Because 'add subtitle' option is not open for us. Can you help me MUBI?
I would like to know who chooses the film selection for the streaming Mubi Service in Mexico. Just curious. I am a suscriber. Could you make a video like presenting them?
Why didn't you use a lav mic like you did for NWR? Show the man some respect and do it right! The emasculation of Asian men in western media continues...
Hi Nate. We're very sorry about the sound. Unfortunately we simply didn't have access to the same equipment that was used for NWR's visit. That video was carried out by a professional film crew external to MUBI and planned long in advance, whereas this video was quite a spontaneous project (Lav Diaz was in London for the weekend, for a symposium by the University of Westminster). We were very disappointed with the sound quality as well and tried everything to clean it up - but felt that bad sound was no reason NOT to share his thoughts with the world. We can assure you we have immeasurable respect and admiration for Lav Diaz and his art, as you do. Sorry again and thank you!
So pretentious and entitled. Cinema with an artsy bent is easy and self indulgent. Brilliant Cinema so entwined with art that can touch the man on the street is utterly rare and difficult - go for that.

I like this guy, Nuni Bilge Ceylan, Andrey Zvyagintsev, Lukas Moodysson and Aki Kaurismaki!

“I don’t rush things”. --Lav Diaz
i wish he would speak tagalog in interviews. i feel that he would better articulate his thoughts in our native language.
he's from mindanao. tagalog is as much his native language as english is.

Lav Diaz is making a musical??
Yes! A fully diegetic rock musical! He had a very early first cut with him on his visit, but no word yet on when it'll be completed...
Yep! Current title for it is Ang Panahon ng Halimaw (The Season of the Devil)
it's premiering at the Berlinale in a couple of weeks!
Yes. And the first teaser-trailer is here th-cam.com/video/xwumR2Au31E/w-d-xo.html
